I remember arriving at my college accommodation for the first time. I 1my things, and then sat on the bed and burst into2.This 3 for a year. The lectures and exams were both filled4sorrow. I had a terrible 5 that I must be doing something6since everyone else seemed to be happy.
It was my mum who finally gave me the7to leave. I was home for the weekend and we were talking about how much 8I was putting on myself. Finally she 9said, "How about just not going back on Monday?" At the time, I didn't think of this as10. It felt like falling back into a11hole without a ladder.
It was hard to climb out. My depression(沮丧) was far12 serious than anyone had ever thought. But I know now that my decision to leave school wasn't about13. It was about stepping back from the education 14wasn't right for me. And it was about moving forward by pushing 15depression.
I can't say enough about how valuable stepping back was for me. After I left 16 I was ready to move forward. I 17my own company. Almost five18years have passed and my little company is doing well19 now I find myself with another choice to expand or to stay small for another year. I may step back20 but then I will move forward.

Do you have a pet?you do, congratulations, you are likely to have a (good) mental state than those who don't, reported Time magazine
According to the report, people with pets usually have lower blood pressure, a lower heart rate and a lower risk of (have) a heart attack. These benefits may come from extra exercise of walking and playing with pets, and stress relief for having a good “friend”.
One study shows that (pet) living creatures can help people with (anxious), while animal toys have no effect at all.
In a 2016 study (publish) in the journal Gerontology, elderly people were given five crickets (蛾蟀)in a cage became happier than before.
Other researches studied the effect of pets children who have difficulty reading. When the children (ask) to read aloud to a dog and trainer they were less upset.
The story happened in Japan 61 a house was redecorated and the wall inside a room was removed. The inside of the wall was hollow. When the owner of the house removed the wall, he saw a gecko (壁虎) inside the wall. Its tail was pinned by a nail 62 (come) through the wall from outside.
The owner was very curious why the gecko was still alive. Then the nail caught his eye. Goodness! It is the nail that was driven here ten years ago when the house was built! How amazing it is 63 the gecko to have lived in the wall in complete 64 (dark) for ten years!
But on second thought, the curious house owner wondered how his gecko could live through 10 years with its tail 65 (nail) down and being unable to go anywhere? So he tried to find out how this small creature could be fed. After a little while, there appeared another gecko with food in 66 mouth! What a shocking scene! For ten years, this little gecko had never failed to feed the trapped 67 .
The story touched me so 68 (deep) that it is useless to find out what relationships they had between them. Parent 69 child ? Friends? Lovers? Brothers or sisters? 70 last thing we should do is to abandon your beloved in hardship.

Quick tips for better time management
Are you a good time manager? If your answer is “no”, here are some tips on how to be a better time manager:
1. Create a daily plan. Plan your day before it starts. The plan gives you a good description of how the day will go on. That way, you will be ready to deal with most of the things you meet. 36
2. Focus. Are you multi-tasking so much that you’re just not getting anything done? 37 Only focus on what you’re doing. You’ll be more efficient that way.
3. Stay away from your time wasters. What takes your time away from your work? QQ? Email checking? 38 One thing you can do is make it hard to check them — remove them from your browser quick links.
4. 39 Don’t take on more than you can deal with. For the distractions that come in when you’re doing other things, give a firm no. Or do it later.
5. Decide to be early. When you prepare to be on time, you’ll either be on time or late. 40 However, if you decide to be early, you’ll most likely to be on time. For appointments, try to be early. For your deadlines, meet them earlier than required.
A. Learn to say “No”.
B. Cut off when you need to.
C. Stop checking them so often.
D. Most of the time you’ll be late.
E. Great ways to know your time spent.
F. If so, focus on just one key task at one time.
G. Your job for the day is to follow the plan as best as possible.
In what has the possibility to change how scientists and doctors treat blindness, researchers have discovered that light not only makes the brain active, it also does so even in people who can't see.
Research from the University of Montreal found that even when vision(视力) is damaged or objects can no longer be seen, changes in light still reach the brain and blind people can tell whether a light is turned on or off. This is because the light is picked up by a part of the retina(视网膜) in the eye that controls vision.
Researchers put three blind people in a room and asked them to say whether the light in the room was turned on or off.
The researchers flashed lights directly at the participants' eyes to study more closely what effect the light had on the brain. “The aim of this second test was to determine whether the light affected the brain patterns associated with attentiveness, and it did,” said researcher Olivier Collignon.
Finally, the participants were put into a functional MRI (fMRI) brain scanner and each took part in a sound matching task while lights were flashed in their eyes.
The study claims that the default(默认的) network in the brain is linked so humans use a little amount of resources when monitoring their surroundings. “If our understanding of the default network is correct, our results raise the possibility that light is the key to keeping continued attention,” said the researchers. This theory may explain why the brain's performance is improved when light is present during tasks.
Lockley concluded, “Light doesn't just allow us to see, and it tells the brain whether it's night or day which in turn makes sure our physiology(生理机能), metabolism(新陈代谢) and behaviour keep pace with environmental time.”
The research could have great effects on the treatment of blind people, as well as on other cognitive disorders, because doctors can potentially use light to activate specific parts of the brain.
31. According to the passage, blind people can still feel changes in light due to their ________.
A. vision B. retina C. brain D. subconsciousness
32. Why did the researchers flash lights directly at the participants' eyes?
A. To prove the blind's brains are more sensitive to light.
B. To make sure whether the blind's brains are more active.
C. To know if brain patterns about attentiveness are affected by light.
D. To learn what kind of light can influence the blind's brains.
33. What do we know from the passage?
A. Blue light is very important to make humans' brains active.
B. The fMRI brain scanner controls people's vision and helps people see.
C. Light is helpful to the brains' good performance.
D. Humans can use light to monitor their surroundings.
34. What will be mentioned in the following paragraph?
