Skyscrapers are the symbol of Urban life.City people are used to seeing tall buildings and apartments. Farms,on the other hand, are associated with rural(农村的)life. However, there are experts who think skyscrapers should become farms to meet the increasing food needs.
By the middle of this century, some scientists suggest, almost 80% of the earth's population could live in cities. In addition, the population could increase to 9.1 billion people during that time yet the amount of land available for farming will be the same.If current farming practices don't change,we will need an area of new land to produce enough food for the planet.
Vertical farms, where urban farmers could grow crops in environmentally friendly skyscrapers, could be the solution. In spite of concerns over high costs, experts want to make it a reality and use these skyscrapers to grow crops.
Vertical farms would have many advantages, supporters say. Unlike traditional farming, vertical farming could be free of chemicals and diseases. Besides, crops would not suffer from problems like flooding. Finally, vertical farms would reduce the cost and negative effects of transporting food over long distances.
Some argue that although crops growing in a tall glass building would get natural sunlight during the day,it wouldn't be enough. For this reason, vertical farms would need additional light sources(来源), such as artificial light.
Another way of growing fresh food is to build urban farms on rooftops. This more practical approach may be more achievable than the idea of farms in skyscrapers, researchers suggest. Experts agree that innovative(革新的)farming practices are needed to support the need for more food at affordable costs, both to the farmer and to the consumer, but the best ideas could be yet to come.
【1】What primary problem could vertical farming settle?
A. Poor state of rural life.
B. Shortage of food supply.
C. High cost for transporting crops.
D. Environmental pollution by transitional farmings
【2】What is the advantage of vertical farming?
A. It can produce organic food.
B. It requires little care.
C. It can benefit transport industry.
D. It needs very low cost.
【3】What is a big challenge to make vertical farming a reality?
A. Farmable land. B. Crop diseases
C. Light sources. D. Climate conditions.
【4】What can be the best title of the test?
A. Future Food Needs
B. Symbol of Urban Life
C. Farming on Rooftops
D. Farms of the Future
The position of secretary or personal assistant used to be the preserve of women, but now men are making their way in. The change is due partly to the highest rate of graduate unemployment and the growing awareness that salaries for PAs can reach £75,000 a year.
Joshua Watson, 25, has been an executive (行政的) assistant to a female senior director at Barclays for 18 months, having previously worked as a PA. He does not see himself as working in a woman’s role. “I don’t feel that I’m treated any differently just because I’m male,” he said. “I don’t think that is an issue for people from my generation. It’s a good job for me because I am fond of organizing. I have good exposure to see the top people in the company and I want to climb the ladder.”
Recruitment(招聘) consultants are seeing an ever-increasing number of men interested in PA or secretarial posts. “Out of the 1,000 candidates we’ve registered in the past 12 months, around 200 are male,” said David Morel, managing director of Tiger Recruitment. “It is increasing the whole time. Since 2011, the numbers have been doubling each year, and most of them are ambitious graduates.”
Susanna Tait, managing director of Tay Associates, agrees. She said she had seen a “huge” increase in numbers of male applicants. “It’s an obvious career choice for ambitious individuals keen to operate at the centre of the business field.”
Quest Professional, which offers training courses for companies and organizations, said this was the first year that men had attended its executive PA program and that “more and more” men were doing related course.
Top PAs in the City now earn between £35,000 and £75,000, plus benefits—in some cases even more. Morel thinks this is the primary reason why more men are coming into the market.
Barclays encourages male applicants for PA and similar roles. “We will offer everyone—regardless of their gender—the same opportunities to be successful,” said a spokesperson.
【1】What’s Joshua Watson’s position at Barclays? (No more than 4 words)
【2】What does the underlined phrase “climb the ladder” in Para 2 mean? (No more than 2 words)
【3】What does Quest Professional do? (No more than 10 words)
【4】As for male PAs, what did Barclays’ spokesperson say? (No more than 12 words)
【5】What do you think of men’s new choice and why? (No more than 20 words)

Released on 6 Aug. 2010,Flipped is arguably my favorite US film. It told the heartwarming story of a boy named Bryce or a girl named Juli. It's hard to imagine that two teenagers, who in others' eye might not know about love, actually have so a pure and beautiful love. Besides, the film is not only about puppy love. It also tells us about dreams, respect, self﹣esteem and the important of working hard. Julies attitude towards the life is also worth appreciating. She has characteristics many of us gradually lose with we grow up. The film successful creates a warm atmosphere for audiences longing love and happiness. I hope you will enjoy the movie as many as I do.

With its snow-covered mountains and a variety of wildlife, Yellow Stone National Park is one of the scenic treasures of the United States. Located primarily in Wyoming, the park hosts millions of visitors every year. If you plan to travel within the park, keep in mind advice from the National Park Service.
Seasonal Travel
Travel varies vastly from season to season. Roads are generally open in the summer except for cases of rock or mud slides, wild fires, accidents or road construction. Early snows in the fall can cause some roads to close temporarily. In the winter almost all roads are closed to motor vehicles, but snowmobiles and other snow vehicles with tracks are allowed. Roads begin to open for the spring by the latter part of April but can close if snowfall continues.
Driving Time
Grand Loop is the main road through Yellowstone National Park; it passes by most of the major attractions. These include Old Faithful, Yellowstone Lake and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. The maximum speed limit on the Grand Loop is 45 miles per hour, but the speed limit drops during some of the winding and twisting sections of this narrow road. Allow yourself at least two days to fully travel the loop due to the size of the park and being sometimes stuck in heavy traffic.
Safety Awareness
Buffalo(水牛)often block the roads in the park as they move through the fields. If a group is traveling across the road you are on, you can either wait for them to pass or find an alternative route. If you get out of your vehicle, the National Park Service says to stay at least 25 yards from any buffalo (and 100 yards or more away from bears and wolves). Buffalo are particularly unpredictable and charge people at speeds up to 30 mph.
You can take your bicycle on any public roads and routes designed for bikes, but bicycles are not allowed on the park roads which are narrow with few shoulders. Altitudes range from 5, 300 to 8, 860 feet. The National Park Service recommends cyclists wear helmets and noticeable clothing.
【1】What do we know about travelling in the Yellowstone Park?
A. Roads will stay open in case of emergency.
B. Traffic jam happens from time to time.
C. The driving speed on the road can be 50 mph.
D. Motor vehicles are allowed in the winter.
【2】What does the National Park Service suggest people do about safety?
A. Stay inside the car throughout the travel.
B. Get out of their vehicles when coming across the Buffalo.
C. Wear the easy-to-see clothes while bicycling.
D. Avoid bicycling on the public roads.
【3】From which is the text probably taken?
A. A guidebook.
B. A commercial advertisement.
C. A research paper.
D. A geography textbook.

Most cell phone companies design models especially for kids. But parents are usually the ones buying the phones. According to a July 2012 study, 56% of parents of children aged 8 to 12 have given their children a cell phone. According to a recent YouthBeat survey, 12 is the magic number. It is the most common age for kids to get their first cell phone. But 13% of children aged 6 to 10 already have one. The number goes up with age.
Procell phone people, including many parents, notice that cell phones help kids keep in touch with their friends and families. They believe that cell phones are an important tool in a dangerous situation. Kids can stay connected with their parents at all times, whether it's to ask for a ride home from soccer practice or to receive a text message moments before a big game. Plus, some cell phones designed for kids can be controlled with settings that allow the phone to only be used in parentapproved ways. What's the harm in that?
But other people are worried about the health and safety effects of kids' cell phones. They believe that kids with cell phones will spend less time playing outside or hanging out with friends, and that sending text messages or making phone calls while doing homework is bad for concentration. They say that kids are spending too much time texting instead of talking to each other. “Our brains developed to communicate face to face,” says Gary Small, a professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine in California. “A lot of this is lost with texting.”
And some experts are also concerned about possible health risks. They worry that radiation—or energy waves—produced by cell phones could be harmful to young people. To be safe, parents should not let them talk long on the phone.
