高一英语试题

I was in trouble in overcoming my addiction to alcoholand so was my friend Mike. We never met each other until we chanced to be in the same selfplaced inpatient(住院病人)treatment facility. Now we had been out of the treatment center for about a year and had returned to our lives. We have become inseparable(不能分离的)friends like brothers.

The thing that kept me and my friend Mike going during these times was our ability to be the counselor(劝告者) for each other. There was never a time when I had not called him that he did not call me right back within a couple of hours. We got together every chance we could to keep us both on the right track.

One dayI called Mike but he wasn't in. As usualI had to leave a messagefully expecting to hear from him later that evening or the next day. When I had not heard from him for nearly 2 daysI started to become very anxious as to what could the problem be. Surely there must be something significant that had kept him from returning my call. On the third dayI received a message from my wife that Mike's wife had called and wanted to speak to me. She said she would be calling later in the afternoon. I started to worry about the entire thingas my wife did not even know what Marylynn wanted to speak to me about. When Marylynn calledI immediately knew there was something wrong. Mike had been killed in an unexplained truck crash on the morning of my call. There were no witnesses and no explanations as to what had happened.

I attended my friend's funeral and even though I could hardly walkI helped carry my friend to his final resting place. I have never met any single statement affecting me as much as that oneso I can be sure to say that I am still here and my friend Mike is still here tooin my heart and my soul.

32Why does the author write the passage?

ATo tell how he came to know Mike.                  BTo disclose the truth of a good friend.

33How did the author and Mike know each other?

AThey have the same ability to give advice to each other.

BThey have fallen into the same habit.

CWhen they were in an alcoholic centre.

DWhen the author treated a patient.

34From the passage we can infer that         .

AMike never answered the author in a few hours

BMike and I tried best to overcome the bad habit

Cmy wife usually left a message to Mike

Dit is common for me not to get his call for 2 days

35What does the underlined word “statement” mean?

I was driving home from the gym with my children. It was approaching bed time.

My legs hurt, I cant walk to the car. said my son, William. Then be sat on the ground regardless of whatever we said.

Maybe you just need a banana? Theyre good for tired bones. his sister, Meredith, persuaded him in a wise way.

This was the first time I had heard of the bananas miracle(神奇的) cure for achy bones. It distracted(使分心) William and we were able to make it to the car. His wish for bone relief brought him energy and he persisted(坚持) the entire ride home. Upon arrival, he struggled out of the car and slowly went up 3 steps into the house. While he took his medicine, we arrived on a suitable diagnosis (诊断) for his illness ---a serious case of Banana Bone. He was probably just overtired. He had a long day and played hard in the Adventure Room at the gym. Thankfully we kept some bananas in the fridge, and hugs and kisses were given as a booster (辅助药剂) , which gave him the courage to walk upstairs to sleep.

Banana Bone sounds like something Ive had before. The aching hasnt been in my bones so much as in my head and my heart. I think its a condition related to stress, lack of rest and stretching of ones abilities. Perhaps youre experienced it too. It is about long days facing challenges or pressing against the edges of your own ability without any hope.

Thats when you realize Banana Bone doesnt have to be a physical illness. It can be mental. It can drive emotion. It means you can choose it or you can choose against it. Its not real. It s your reaction to whats real. I know, it s still not easy. But it s part of growing up. We must have the courage to overcome it and I believe we can make it

My advice to you? Eat a banana and go to bed. Youll feel a lot better and be your fresh self in the morning.

Busy and tired although I was in my past 3 senior years, I think that the school life was interested and worthwhile. There was many wonderful stories, including the most forgettable one about my first Christmas party.

Learning that we would have a holiday at Christmas Eve, we decided to hold a party to celebrate it. We prepare a big Christmas tree decorated with colorful lights, of course, some favorite food and fruit for the party. All our program were wonderful, but the highlight was what I sang a song before so many people for the first time in my life. I got much confidence when my classmates gave me so much applause after my performance.

It was a pity that we had to finish the party when time came for us to say goodbye. But in my view, it is the most exciting evening that I remember it forever.

Seen in that light , it really was a difficult choice , but finally, I decided I had to give it a shot(尝试). I didn’t think I’d regret trying and failing. A new book called “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother” by Amy Chua has caused a debate (争论) about cultural differences in parenting. Amy Chua is a teacher in an American university and both of her parents are Chinese. In the book, Ms. Chua writes about how she taught her daughters. She told NBC television that she had a clear list of what her daughters were not allowed to do, such as having a play date, watching TV or playing computer games and getting any grade less than an A.

Many people are against Amy Chua’s parenting style (风格), even her husband, who is American. They say it is rude and unfair to children. But she says her parents raised her and her three sisters in that way.

Ms. Chua says after her younger daughter shouted “I hate my life! I hate you!” she decided to retreat because she was afraid of losing her daughter. But she also says American parents often have low expectations of their children’s abilities.

“The debate is about what it means to be a successful parent and what it means to be a successful child,” said Stacy DeBroff, who has written four books on parenting. She says Amy Chua’s parenting style is not limited to Chinese families. It is a traditional way of parenting among immigrants (移民). They hope to get a better future for their children.

She also sees a risk (风险). When children have no time to be social or to develop their own interests, they might not develop other skills that they need to succeed in life. DeBroff advises parents to develop their own style of parenting and not just repeat the way they were raised.

24Which of the following words can best describe Amy Chua?

A. Polite.               B. Cruel.                C. Strict.               D. Popular.

25The underlined word “retreat” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to _____.

26According to Ms. DeBroff, _____.

C. parents should have their own parenting style

D. Amy Chua’s style is bad for children’s growth

In today's world, almost everyone knows that air pollution and water pollution are harmful to people's health. However, not all the persons know that noise is also a kind of pollution, and that is harmful to human health, too.
People who work and live under noisy conditions usually become deaf

Recently it was discovered that many teenagers in America could hear no better than 65-year-old persons, for these young people like to listen to pop music and most of pop music is a kind of noise. Besides, noise produced by jet planes or machines will make people's life difficult and unpleasant, or even make people ill or even drive them mad.
It is said that a continuous noise of over 85 decibels
(分贝)can make people deaf. Now the governments in many countries have made laws to control noise and make it less than 85 decibels.

How to keep a nearly lost friendship alive

There are times when a friendship has to go through huge tests. It is a battle between staying together and moving away from each other.   36  .More often than not, it is pride that destroys a friendship.

Relax your pride. This is easy to say, but very difficult to do. You may ask yourself, “Why should I say sorry when he does not show any regret for what he has done?”  37  If you find yourself saying any of these things, you should understand that it is your pride talking. Allowing your pride to control your feelings will leave you bitter and confused.

Talk about the problem. Face the problem calmly.  38  it may sound silly, but it could certainly heal the wounds that you have caused each other. If you avoid facing the problem, your pain will only grow. Remember, you want to keep the friendship and not worsen the problem.

Laugh about it.  39  After some time, when both of you have become calm and renewed your confidence in each other, go back to the time when you had nearly fallen apart. Laugh about your foolishness, and promise to never let pride take over your friendship.

Friendship is a valuable thing.  40  .Rapport(融洽的关系)is what creates a friendship. Love, understanding, acceptance and forgiveness are what lead to a long-lasting friendship.

A. Try to save your friendship.

B. It cannot be bought or demanded.

C. It is often said that laughter is the best medicine.

D. Do not wait for the other person to make the first move.

E. There are many various reasons why a friendship breaks up.

F. Write a letter and read it out loud to the other person.

G. You may also say, “I have not done anything wrong, and I don’t want to say sorry.”
