Sitting for more than three hours a day can decrease a person’s life expectancy(预期寿命) by two years, even if he or she is physically active and gets rid of dangerous habits like smoking, according to a study. Watching TV for more than two hours a day can worsen that problem, decreasing life expectancy by another 1.4 years.

The analysis(分析) comes just two years after Australian researchers found that people who said they watched TV for more than four hours a day were 46% more likely to die of any cause than people who said they spent less than two hours a day watching TV. Those watching TV more than four hours a day were also 80% more likely to die of cardiovascular(心血管的) disease. “Sedentary(久坐的) behavior is something we need to pay attention to, beyond telling people to get 30 minutes of activity a day,” said Peter T. Katzmarzyk, one of the lead researchers. But while the evidence of illness is increasing, it remains difficult for many people to find time to get on their feet, especially if they do desk jobs.

Dr. Katzmarzyk said, “Try to stand as much as you can. Instead of emailing someone in the office, just get up and go to talk to them.” However, he added, standing shouldn’t be an alternative to exercising, but an alternative to sitting. “Several studies show that when you’re sitting, your leg muscles are completely inactive, this is when you run into trouble managing blood glucose(血糖).”

32. What is the main idea of the first paragraph?

A. Watching TV too long can worsen our mental health.

B. We should be active and give up smoking.

C. Sitting for too long a day can shorten one’s life.

D. Smoking too much can be harmful to health.

33. What does Dr. Katzmarzyk think of sedentary behavior?

A. It warns people to exercise 30 minutes a day.

B. It’s a bad behavior worth considering seriously.

C. It can lead to death at once.

D. It is good for desk job workers.

34. According to Dr. Katzmarzyk, if you are sitting all the time, you may _________.

A. phone your friends and talk about your problem

B. put on weight quickly and become more inactive

C. want to have more sugar for your meals

D. find it hard to keep your blood glucose proper.

35. The researchers draw the conclusion (得出结论) on the effect of sedentary behavior by ______.

A. listing figures (数据)               B. doing judging

C. giving examples                       D. classifying (分类) facts

36  .You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessary so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here's how:
     1. Plan your time carefully. When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. then decide a good, regular time for studying.    37    A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.
     2. Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.
     3. Make good use of your time in class.     38  .Really listening in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.
   4. Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material.  39  If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.

5. Develop a good attitude about tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won't end if you don't pass a test, so don’t be over worried.

40  .You will probably discover them after you have tried these.
A. There are other methods that might help you with your studying.

B. Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment.

C. Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teachers say

D. No one can become a top student unless he or she works hard.

E. Maybe you are an average student.

F. Make full use of class time to take notes of what the teacher says in class.

G. This will help you understand the next class.

If you think a letter is too slow, why not try ____ a telegram?

A. to have sent    B. to send   C. to be sending   D. sending

I live in a city, and I like quiet life. I hate nosy (爱管闲事的) neighbors but it’s very unlucky that I had one for myself. They moved in a couple of months ago and although I never felt that they were a strange family, I’ve always hated the way they get “too close” to me, my house, my garden, and even my garbage cans.
One day, my neighbors were mowing their lawn (
草坪). My garbage cans were near their lawn. For some strange reason, I found the wife looking through my garbage cans. I felt angry but since they were from a different culture, I thought that maybe it was “normal” from their ideas.
That afternoon, the couple knocked on my front door. When I opened, they gave me a plastic bag. Inside were my old daily bills, credit cards and bank statements, and an old birthday card that my old uncle sent. They said that they were returning them to me because these documents contained very private information that may be used by others.
I’ve heard of it before. I asked them how those documents can be used by others and they started telling me their very own experience, which forced them to leave their home and move next door to us. The wife told me that she never destroyed the bills. They also had a “nosy neighbour” who looked through their garbage cans which they actually thought was pretty strange. Little did they know that this “nosy neighbor” was collecting their personal information from their rubbish. Then all their money was taken out from the bank by their neighbor.
It was a very painful experience for all of them and they wanted to leave it all behind so they left. I was very thankful. They were not nosy neighbors. They simply didn’t want us to experience the same thing that they did.
1. What made the author angry?
A. His neighbors came to knock at his door at night.
B. His neighbors were mowing their lawn one morning.
C. His neighbors got too close to his own home.
D. His neighbor’s wife was looking through his rubbish.
2. Why did the couple come to the author’s home?
A. To return the documents to the author.
B. To get to know each other better.
C. To introduce themselves to the author.
D. To borrow some money from the author.
3. The neighbors moved to live next door to the author because       .
    A. they no longer had money to live in their former home
    B. their personal documents were used by their former neighbor
    C. they didn’t want to live in such a noisy home as before
    D. they thought the author was much better than their former neighbor
4.Which of the following can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. The author was kind and helpful to the neighbors.
B. The author changed his idea about his neighbors.
C. The neighbors didn’t have enough money.
D. The neighbors had to move from place to place.

You’d better not _______ the radio, or you’ll not be able to put it together again.

A. take out

Have you ever had a headache during a test? Have you ever been too worried about something that you have a headache or even can’t sleep at night? If so, then you know that stress is.

Not all stress is bad for you. Some kinds of stress can help you get things do better, like when you are running towards the finishing line or when you are being asked to give a speech to your class. Stress sometimes can help push you to make full preparation for a test. However, too much stress can result in anger, depression and other related problems, which we need to take serious.

There are many things in our life what might cause stress—having too much homework, taking a difficult test, and having economic problems.

It’s impossible to live in a life completely free of stress, so you should learn to deal with stress. The best way reduce stress is to have a balance life. If you get enough sleep, eat properly, take more exercise and have enough fan time, you’ll probably feel less stressed.

It is the injury from breathing cigarettes that has led to the invention of ecigarettes. Using these cigarettes requires small power from battery and these cigarettes are also available in various flavors and varied nicotine(尼古丁) levels. Owing to the fact that the charge from a short cable(电缆) is required, carrying the electronic cigarettes can't be that easy in some case. This means that the smoking habits of individuals are in fact controlled! Alsothe human body is protected from harmful smoke that is not given off by the electrical version of these New Age cigarettes.

The cigarettes are in a fine pack and they are durable (持久的)! For the first time evertobacco smokers do not have to carry matches and lighters which may cause burns to their finger tips and boring holes into their clothes! The result is basic dignity for the smokers because they will not disrespect the nonsmokers among them by polluting the air that they breathe. Electronic cigarettes and the packages they come in can also be reusedwhich means that a lot of money can be saved.

They are environmentally friendly(环保). For starters, this kind of cigarettes cannot be put on unless with a source of an electrical current. This means that rooms and pathways do not, under any circumstances, get filled with smoke just because a smoker passed by! The smoke is done away, meaning the air, even around a smoker, is always fresh! Disposals (处理) for the cigarettes have also been invented so that there are no harmful smoking bits and pieces carelessly thrown away which pollute the environment!

Ecigarettes have made the world a better place at the very least. Those who are addicted to smoking on a regular or even irregular basis can therefore do so responsibly and give better consideration to their health.

5It's learned from Paragraph 1 that

Athe original smoking habits of smokers are hard to control

7According to the author, ecigarettes

Amatter less to heavy smokers  Bare right alternatives(代替物)to smokers

Cshouldn't be overvalued 过分重视  Dshould be made cheap

8What's the purpose of this passage?
