Ring! Ring! Ring! It was early in the morning and I knew who was 1 as I reached for the telephone. I was a new substitute teacher (代课教师) trying to earn enough money to 2 my family. Each morning, I 3 for a call that would take me to a different classroom. The last three classes had all been determined to 4 me and see just how much bad behavior they could get away with (逃脱惩罚). I had responded (应对) by being 5 with the students. I didn't really 6 to go to work that morning, especially since it was my birthday.
Still, I answered the phone and 7 the job. My family needed the money and I couldn't 8 to be picky (挑剔的). As I was driving to work, I 9 to try harder to be the best teacher that I could be.
As the class started, the students 10 tried to see what they could get away with. This time, though, I was 11 but fair with them. I did my best to make my lessons 12. I shared smiles, praised their efforts, and encouraged them to work hard.
The results were 13. My unruly (难以驾驭的) classroom soon 14. Students were learning and laughing, and I 15 felt like I was doing my job right. I went home feeling 16 in my heart and enjoyed the rest of my birthday with my family.
I remembered something that I once read: "Every day is a new opportunity to 17 again. Every day is your birthday." Every day is a 18 for us to get things right, to live our lives with love and joy, and to make this world a better place. Don't 19 a single day. Just try to be the best you can be. Never stop 20.
In order to know a foreign language thoroughly, four things are necessary. Firstly, we must understand the language when we hearspoken. Secondly, we must be able to speak it correctly with confidence and without hesitation. (three), we must be able to read the language, and fourthly, we must be able to write it. We must be able to make sentences that are grammatically correct.
There is no easy way to success language learning. good memory is of great help, but it is not enough only (memorize) rules from a grammar book. It is not much use learning by heart long a list of words and (they) meaning, studying the dictionary and so on. We must learn by using the language. If we(satisfy) with only a few rules we have memorized, we are not really learning the language. "Learn through use" is a good piece of (advise) for those are studying a new language. Practice is important. We must practice speaking and (write) the language whenever we can.

Chinese Spring Festival, (know) as chun jie in China, is the important festival to the Chinese. On the first day of the festival, Chinese people often make a courteous (礼节的) bow, has the meaning of "exchanging Chinese New Year greetings". Bainian, (be) one of the most important activities during the Chinese New Year, is a very traditional custom (show)respect and friendship.
Chinese New Year greetings usually begin at home. On the first day of the New Year in Chinese lunar calendar, the young should first greet the elder by making bows or kou tou, a Chinese way of showing respect by knocking one's head on the floor, very (gentle) of course.
When the elder (receive)the greetings from the young, they will give the "lucky money" or ya sui qian to the young.
This is one of the (reason) why kids like Chinese New Year very much because they can get the "lucky money"! It is not a small sum of money the kids can get during the Chinese New Year, because most Chinese families are big ones, with many members. exchanging Chinese New Year greetings at home, the whole family (visit)their relatives, neighbors, and friends.
On June 16, 2020, Virginia governor Ralph Northam made an announcement. The state would move to recognize June 19, or Juneteenth, as a paid state holiday. The next day, New York governor Andrew Cuomo tweeted that he'd do the same in his state. This makes Virginia and New York the latest states to officially honor Juneteenth. Now, at least 45 out of 50 states, plus Washington, D. C., recognize Juneteenth. "We became independent in 1776. Every year as a nation, we mark the Fourth of July Independence Day," Northam said during a press conference. "But that freedom we celebrate did not include everyone.
Learning more about the holiday means going back in history to the Civil War. On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation ( 解放黑人奴隶宣言). His speech declared freedom for enslaved people. The Civil War ended more than two years later,in April 1865. The Union won. But there were many enslaved people who had not been told of this. On June 19, Union soldiers told crowds in Galveston, Texas, that the state's 250,000 enslaved people were free. They were among the last to find out. The day became known as Juneteenth, which refers to June and 19th and is sometimes called Emancipation Day. Over the years, as black people from Galveston moved to different cities, the celebration spread slowly. And in the 1960s, the civil rights movement brought a really wider awareness of Juneteenth because it broke out all over the country.
It's believed that such a holiday helps educate people about what happened in the past. Sheila Jackson Lee represents Texas in the US House of Representatives. Earlier this week, she introduced a bill to Congress, which asks for national recognition of the holiday. Juneteenth has been celebrated in a variety of ways people can choose from. Usually, there are community gatherings, cookouts, and festivals.
Being a teenager can be challenging, but it can also be exciting. You are also learning to take risks and solve problems better.
Changes are happening throughout your body, even in your brain. Imagine the structure of your brain is like a big road map. Lots of roads lead to different destinations. When you were a child as you learnt new things, your brain created more and more roads to different destinations. Now your brain makes that map more efficient.
As a result, your experiences as a teenager actually influence the way that your brain develops. If you spend hours playing video games, what skills do you use? As you develop those skills, your brain is making sure that the roads leading to them are especially fast and efficient.
This is a great time for you to practice new skills and discover what you are good at and what you love most. Remember that with everything you do, you're shaping your brain for the future.

E. By the time you become a teenager, many different roads lead to the most important places on the map.
F. You learn to see something with your eyes and respond to it with your hands.

One rainy day while I was walking home with one of my friend, a truck came to a stop besides us. The driver put the window down and offered us a umbrella because he found we were wet through. I stood there and couldn’t believe in that a complete stranger is so thoughtful. The man insisted, so I grateful accepted the offer, thanked him and watched the truck disappear down the road. This man might need the umbrella himself, and he preferred to give it to everyone else. It was a lesson to us that it was possible give without expect anything in return.
Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer,Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son:suddenly he seemed to be talking more to his friends than to his parents.“The door to his room is always shut,”Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter.“She used to cuddle up(蜷伏)with me on the sofa and talk,”said Mark.“Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something.Sometimes she wants to be treated like a 1ittle girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is figuring out which time is which.”
Before age 11,children like to tell their parents what’s on their minds.“In fact, parents are first on the list,”said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers.“This completely changes during the teen years,”Riera explained.“They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”
Parents who know what’s going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the best position to help them.To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say,and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental break, for children also need freedom, though young.Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.

Life is the greatest teacher
There always comes a moment when I wonder where I will end up and this moment always serves as a strong motivation for me to learn life lesson. I've learned a great many things, but these are the lessons that I wish I'd learned earlier:
71. _________
There was a time when everyone's opinion was mine as well. Whatever preferences I formerly held were dashed in the face of another's. This most likely came from a need to please others. Remember that your opinion matters just as much as the next guy's, whether they make more money than you or are less popular than you. Everyone's opinion holds the same weight.
72. _________
Drama, chaos, and emotional unrest — these were what took up most of my time as a teenager. If I had heard someone said bad things behind my back, I'd be angry. Go crazy. Looking back on those tantrums now, I'm not too surprised. After all, when you have little self control, anything is possible. The lessons here is, remain aware of how you react.
73. _________
Will one small quarrel among friends decide the fate of the entire universe? In my world it felt like it. I just wanted so much to be right and for them so much to be wrong. But in the end, it only resulted in me wasting my time and in the other person storming off in frustration. Is there really a point to arguing? Unless it's absolutely necessary, I've learned that it's better to hold your breath on things you can't control at all. Arguing to change someone's mind is one of them.
74. _________
I'm not saying every parent wants what's best for you (there are outliers), but in general, parents do what they do for you in your best interest. My parents used to make me do the dishes, cook dinner, sweep the floors, mow the lawn, take out the garbage… the list goes on and on. And at every turn, I'd whine and complain. I'd eventually end up doing it. Now, I honestly see the value in having learned those skills. I can efficiently cook and clean up after myself.
75. _________
Whenever I’d lose a friend, get an awful grade, or disappoint my parents, I stewed in my own muck. Waiting for the bad moments to go away seemed to be the only solution. Fortunately, I know now that you don’t have to be stuck in bad situations. You can go out and create better ones. It all depends on perspective; on how you see the situation. Viewing everything as a learning experience makes life more pleasurable, even during the hard times. You aren't stuck. You can move on.
I'm glad to have learned these lessons the way I did. Each experience helped shape me to become a better person. I don't know if any young people are reading this, but if they are, I'd like to say this: “Listen to life and its experiences. Everyone goes through mostly the same things.”
Joy in the Journey
If you have ever been discouraged because of failure, please read on. For often, achieving what you set out to do is not the important thing. Let me explain.
Two brothers decided to dig a deep hole behind their house. As they were working, a couple of older boys stopped by to 41 . “What are you doing?” asked one of the visitors. “We plan to dig a hole all the way through the 42 !” One of the brothers volunteered 43
The older boys began to 44 , telling the younger ones that digging a hole all the way through the earth was 45 . After a long silence, one of the 46 picked up a jar full of spiders, worms and many other kinds of insects. He 47 the lid and showed the wonderful 48 to the scoffing(嘲笑的)visitors. Then he said quietly and 49 , “Even if we don’t dig all the way through the earth, look at what we have found 50 the way!”
Their goal was far too ambitious, but it did cause them to dig. And that is 51 a goal is for — to cause us to move in the 52 we have chosen, in other words, to keep us 53 ! But not every goal will be fully 54 . Not every job will end 55 . Not every hope will come to pass. Not every love will last. Not every dream will be 56 . But when you fall 57 of your aim, perhaps you can say, “Yes, but look at what I found along the way! Look at the wonderful things 58 my life because I tried to do something!” It is in the digging 59 life is lived. And I believe it is the joy in the journey, in the end, that truly 60 .

How to make new friends
When you start high school, you need to make some new friends because your old friends may be away from you now. It’s not easy to make new friends, but it’s important to make new friends. Good friends help you to be happier. 36 Here are some tips to help you make new friends at high school.
Be confident after you enter high school. People like making friends with those who are confident. 37 Smile and ask them their name, if they’ve seen a new movie, or if they like a sport or activity. Sit in the middle of the classroom so that a lot of people will sit around you.
38 Don’t change who you are to fit in or please other people. Many people can know it if you aren’t being yourself — don’t try too hard to fit in. There isn’t another person like you, so remember that and accept the fact that you’re special.
Enjoy your new friends. Do something small but nice for them. 39 If you can, try and meet up with your friends outside of school and really get to know them. Enjoy yourself and enjoy being with your friends.
Be a good friend. Being good friends is about trusting (信任) each other and caring for each other. It’s about give-and-take. 40 Try to understand your friends’ points of view. Think about their feelings. If you’re a good friend to others, you’ll enjoy friendships that can last long.
A. Don’t be afraid of others.
B. Everyone needs new friends.
C. They can help you do better at school.
D. Pick up your courage and talk to someone.
E. Be yourself when you’re talking with others.
F. Be there for your friends when you’re needed.
G. For example, you can save a seat for your friend.
