How to Choose Your Purpose-Filled Career
When you think about choosing a career, you often do it in the following two ways.
If you like writing or doing crafts, you might consider these things. This is not a bad way to go, of course, but you can't always make money doing things you like (like video games or drinking beer). And sometimes things you like are better as a hobby or side passion.
Think about a well-paid job that you can do and doesn't sound so bad. Maybe a doctor, engineer or lawyer? Or maybe that's out of your educational reach, so you choose office or retail worker. but often they are not something you're really passionate about. It's kind of like just doing something because it's there-- not very inspired.
However, there's another way that is perhaps better: . For example, taking care of children, because you really want to help children get a great start in life, or blossom into who they want to be or getting into government or social work to improve the conditions of the community you live in or becoming a scientist to help ease the environmental crisis or find a cure for a terrible disease. and if you choose one of them for that purpose, you will serve in that work feeling a sense of purpose each day.
There are endless ways to do that. The point isn't how you serve the world, but just serving the world in some way will help you feel filled with purpose. .
A. These are all great choices
B. Think about what you like to do
C. You can identify your purpose and work out how to get there
D. Each of these is just one of many possibilities filled with purpose
E. Try to do something to serve a community or make the world better
F. The sooner you complete the training requirements, the sooner you will make a living
G. If you choose a purposeful and enjoyable job, you're always further along than most people
Stephen Hawking was born in Oxford, England on 8th January, 1942. He went to school in St Allbans, a small city near London. Although he did well, he was never top of his class.
After leaving school. Hawking went first to Oxford University where he studied physics and then went to Cambridge University where he studied cosmology(宇宙学). As he himself admits, he didn't work hard. He was a very lazy student, and did very little work. However, he still got high marks.
It was at the age of 20 that Hawking first noticed something was wrong with him. He started to bump into things. When he visited his family at Christmas time, his mother was so worried that she made him see a doctor. Hawking was sent to hospital for tests. Finally, the result came back. Hawking had motor neuron disease (运动神经元病), an incurable illness which would make him unable to speak, breathe or move without the help of a machine. Doctors said they had no way to help him. He would die before 23.
At first, Hawking became very depressed. After a while, though, he began to see his life in a different way. As he later wrote, "Before my illness was diagnosed(诊断), I had been very bored with life. There had not seemed to be anything worth doing. But shortly after I came out of hospital, I suddenly realised that there were a lot of worthwhile (值得做的)things I could do." Then Hawking got married and found a job at Cambridge University as a professor, He strongly believes that his story shows that nobody, how bad their situation is, should lose hope. "Life is not fair." He once said. "You just have to do the best you can in your own situation."
To our great joy, he has been a famous college.

I just marked my first Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in China. Exactly a week after arriving for my graduate studies, I was kind of homesick—memories of past 1 back in Serbia(塞尔维亚) with family and friends exchanging scenes in my mind. On the morning of Friday, September 13rd, the2 on the campus was very cheerful. Chinese students explained to us the importance of the day as gifts of mooncakes were 3. Then came the night. The full moon appeared: huge ball high above the campus, and eyes looked at it with 4. Unlike previous nights, a cool breeze swept through the campus. With Serbian music playing on my headphones, I danced my way, 5 in the wind, and forgetting myself for a moment.
As I settled back into my room, I was fascinated by the festival's idea. My 6 mind pushed me online where I came across the poem Prelude (前奏) to Water Melody(水调歌头), by the well-known Chinese writer Su Dongpo. This poem concisely(精确地) seized what I was 7 . The message and the tone both resonated (共鸣) with my feelings. Writing to his family, Su wondered what time it was back at home. 8 the time differences between China and Serbia, I was constantly trying to figure out what time it was back at home.
Eventually, Su asked his family to join him in 9 the perfection of a full moon in a 10 night. What a way to finish! I, too, was hoping that all was well with my family. Despite the distance and anxiety that comes with not seeing or hearing from a loved one, we were all flourishing (繁盛的) under the watch of the full moon.
And 11 we may go away from home, as happens from time to time; the family remains the most important 12 to our productive existence. As the Chinese used the holiday to 13 with the loved ones, the Serbian community also got together, shared a meal and walked on the streets under the neon (霓虹灯) lights.
As I write this, a day after the Festival, I cannot help but look forward to the next. Thank my Chinese friends, whose14 made me and a crowd of other foreign students experience an 15 Mid-Autumn Festival.
Coffee shops are cool, but in Wilmington, Bitty & Beau's Coffee enjoys a good reputation for its warmth.
At the heart of the shop's popularity is its1staff:Almost everyone has an intellectual(智力的)or developmental disability.
The coffee shop was opened in 2016 by Amy Wright and her husband, 2by two of her four children Beau and Bitty, who have Down syndrome(唐氏症).
When the couple discovered that most people with intellectual and developmental disabilities could never find an employer who would even give them a(n)3, they resolved' to do something about it.
"It4me like a flash of lightning:a coffee shop!" Wright said. "It would be the perfect environment for bringing people together. Seeing the staff5customers at the door, preparing food, serving orders and cleaning tables, people would realize how6they are. "
When the shop opened, it immediately had7out the door. National press attention8, and six months later, it had to move to a9space.
Today, the store employs 40 people with disabilities, who are really good at their jobs.
What makes Amy most proud is the10it has built in the community. "Every day, people say, 'You've made my day. Thank you. 'That's a feeling of happiness most people don't get elsewhere, and it's what11people back here," she said. "This is a place where people can12with those with disabilities and realize how much more alike we are than different. It's13a cup of coffee. It's a human rights movement. It's given our employees the respect and a sense of being14that they deserve. For many employees, it's their first job, and their15fills the air. "
In summer, millions of people will head for the beach. And while the ocean can be a great place to swim and play, it may also be useful in another way. Some scientists think that waves could help make electricity.
“Have you ever been on a surfboard or boat and felt yourself being lifted up by a wave? Or have you jumped in the water and felt the energy as waves crashed over you?” asked Jamie Taylor of the Wave Energy Group at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.“There is certainly a lot of energy in waves.”
Scientists are working on using that energy to make electricity. Most waves are created when winds blow across the ocean.“The winds start out by making little ripples (波纹) in the water, but if they keep on blowing , those ripples get bigger and bigger and turn into waves, ” Taylor said.“Waves are one of nature's ways of picking up energy and then sending it off on a journey.”
When waves come towards the shore, people can set up dams or other barricades to block the water and send it through a large wheel called a turbine (涡轮) .The turbine can then power an electrical generator (发电机) .
The United States and a few other countries have started doing research on wave energy , and it is already being used in Scotland.
The resource is huge.We will never run out of wave power, besides, wave energy does not create the same pollution as other energy sources, such as oil and coal.
Oceans cover three quarters of the earth's surface. That would make wave power seem perfect for creating energy around the world. There are some drawbacks, however.
Jamie Taylor said that wave power still cost too much money. He said that its effects on animals in the sea were still unknown.Plus, wave power would get in the way of fishing and boat traffic.
With more research, however, “many of these problems might be overcome,” Taylor said.“Demand for energy to power our TVs and computers, drive our cars, and heat and cool our homes is growing quickly throughout the world.Finding more energy sources is very important, for traditional sources of energy like oil and gas may run out some day.”
In the future, when you turn on a light switch, an ocean wave could be providing the electricity!

Tips for being happier
61.
Stay well informed, but watching news reports over and over again about things you can do nothing about will bring dark clouds into your life. Especially refuse to listen to weather reports. Notice how weather reporters in the UK describes the weather as being gloomy or miserable rather than just saying it is cold, rainy or windy ! You can choose how you feel regardless of what the weather is like. Remember, the weather is just the weather.
62.
For example, stop complaining that you don’t have a slimmer body and be grateful that you can walk. Begin today to tell all the people in your life now much you appreciate then being there for you. Remember to show your appreciation also for those people who make life so easy for you such as the postman and the cleaner. Also, tell at least one person today just what you like about them.
63.
This will stop you focusing so much on yourself and your current life situation. Perhaps you would like to volunteer in your local charity shop, school or even a sponsored parachute jump. Look to do anything for others that will be different and will get you out of your comfort zone at the same time. A lot of people volunteer and help out over Christmas, but the need for help is there all year around and you can be the one to do so now.
64.
Schedule this time into your daily routine, perhaps during your lunchtime. Write out a “fun list”, which will ensure that you never have the excuse of not knowing what to do. Pop into a different restaurant for a change or take a different routine to work just for the “fun” of it. Look for activities that are free or cheap.
65.
Take 45 minutes out of your day to build up your muscles and strengthen your body, mind and spirit. Remind yourself of the benefits and adapt exercise habits as part of your daily routine of self care. Stop thinking of exercise as an option. Start now and experiment until you find something you truly enjoy.

One afternoon, I was sitting at my desk, sad, because I got a low mark in the exam. Then, Jim, one of my best friend, told me what it was my turn to clean the classroom. After heard that, I was very angry that I lost my temper. A few seconds late, I realized that I am wrong. When I went to say sorry for him after class, to my surprise, Jim gave me big smile. She said, “We are good friends all the time, aren’t
we? I should have offered to you a few words of comfort.”
