Hello, everybody!
Thank you.
I became aware of my stutter (结巴) when I was around 9, in the fourth grade. I began to see how other people viewed me. When the teacher asked the whole class questions, I never raised my hand though I knew the answer, because I knew I would stutter. Some kids would tell me that I talked funny, ask why 1 didn't talk normally, or laugh at me. As soon as that started to happen, I became more introverted (内向的).
It wasn't until the summer of 2015, before freshman year at high school. All my friends and my parents encouraged me to join the high school football team. I owed much to them, especially Coach Lane who taught me how to play football. He took the time——and had the patience—to actually teach me what to do, how to do it and how to understand the concepts of play.
In junior year, I started my first game for the high school team. I had a very good season and in January 2018, I signed the University of North Carolina. The older we get, the more of an understanding we have about the world and other people. So the first time my teammates in college heard me talk and heard that I stuttered, they did not say a thing. That was a big deal to me because I was so used to people making comments. My teammates actually tell me to slow down because talking faster causes me to stutter more. It's really helped me develop confidence.
Whenever I go back home to Georgia, I volunteer with children at my church, including those who have learning disabilities. I like to do that to inspire them with confidence. I had confidence issues when I was a kid because of my stater, so I just don't want them to have to go through what I did. In the future, I would like to start a foundation to give back to people who stutter and create a program where kids all across the world who have a stutter can have a safe space.
Many weight loss programs seem attractive to people. But for most people are overweight, the results are so (limit) that they will give up long before achieving any realistic results. It turns out that the programs are practically of no use. You lose weight for a while, only (gain) back more weight when you stop your weight loss program. This is because such programs (be) not natural. Is there a natural weight loss solution?
A sure way of achieving natural weight loss is to increase amount of exercise you get every day. However, this doesn't necessarily mean spending hours at a gym in front of a weight loss video. Increase your exercise levels (natural) by walking or biking short distances instead of driving, or by taking the (stair) instead of the elevator. There are even activities that you can do while (sit) at your desk. All of these activities can burn extra calories taking up too much time.

Dear Tom,

Last week, 18 students from our school, including me, participated the Speech and Debate in our city. The competition lasted for a whole day. I could see that many of my teammates were nervous. But all the time when we were not competing, we would go to the rooms where our teammates were waiting for their turn (perform), and encourage them whenever we could with a V sign while they were on the stage. In the end, our team won two first (place)!
Although I didn't get a prize at the award ceremony, was what I had hoped for, I learned about friendship, teamwork, and to believe in myself. My teammates gave me (confident)and hope all the time, and this (be)something that I will never forget later on. To be honest, on the day when I was going to compete, there was a knot(结)that (tie)in my heart. I kept thinking, "You are not so (familiarly)with everybody in this team. Would they ignore you?"
But after all we were through, I felt that we were true family and simply laughed at myself for (have)such an immature and stupid thought.
Swarm Immunity
Honeybees run vaccination programmes, too. An old saw has it that there is nothing new under the sun. Work just published in the Journal of Experimental Biology by Gyan Harwood of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, confirms that honeybees got there first. It also suggest that they run what look like the equivalent of prime-boost childhood vaccination programmes.
Being gregarious, honeybees are at constant risk of diseases sweeping through their hives. Most animals which live in crowded conditions have particularly robust immune systems, so it long puzzled entomologists that honeybees do not.
Part of the answer, discovered in 2015, is that queen bees vaccinate their eggs by transferring into them, before they are laid, fragments of proteins from disease-causing pathogens. But that observation raise the question of how the queen receives her antigen supply in the first place, for she subsists purely on royal jelly, a substance secreted by worked bees which are at the stage of their lives (which precedes the period that they spend flying around foraging for nectar and pollen) when they act as nurses to larvae. Dr Harwood therefore wondered if the nurses were incorporating into the royal jelly they were producing, fragments from pathogens they had consumed while eating the victuals brought to the hive by the foragers.
To test this idea, he teamed up with a group at the University of Helsinki, in Finland, led by Heli Salmela. Instead of nectar, they fed the nurses on sugar-water, and for these of the hives they laced this syrup with Paenibacillus larvae, a bacterium that causes a hive-killing disease called American foulbrood.

A. With this modified method, we show variation in honey bee immunity in response to different classes of pathogens. B. Together, they collected about 150 nurse bees and divided them among six queenless mini hives equipped with broods of larvae to look after. C. Indeed, they actually possess fewer immune-related genes than most solitary bees. D. Over the years, scientists have uncovered how insect immunity relates to behavior, mating success, ability to find food, nutrition, energy cost, etc. E. These act as antigens which trigger the development of a protective immune response in the developing young. F. But it may still come as a surprise that human beings are not alone in having invented vaccination. |

For a lot of parents, sending their kids off to college is a bittersweet experience. I think a lot of teenagers head to college without any idea about how money works. Don't let that happen to your college kid. Help them understand these issues before they step into that first class.
·Budget, budget, budget. __8__ So start by making sure you understand budgeting and have begun to use it as part of your financial plan.
·Independence means responsibility. Living away from home means you have to take care of yourself. __9__ Food doesn't just drop out of the sky, and gas doesn't magically appear in their car. Independence means responsibility.
·__10__ Even if your kid is going to a small community college, they'll still probably have a few thousand dollars of tuition to pay. If you break it down, one class can cost $1,000 at the very minimum! And that doesn't even include books.
·Choose a major wisely. __11__ This isn't a must before they step on campus, but simply plant a seed that gets them started thinking about what they want to do with their life. You don't want them graduating with a degree that leaves them unfulfilled or unable to find a job.
·Friends matter. __12__ Who you hang out with definitely influences how you spend money and the decisions you make. Without being overbearing, remind them how important it is to have positive friends who build them up instead of bringing them down.
Remember, as a parent, just be there for support and to strengthen these principles throughout their college experience.
A.College isn't cheap.
B.Cherish your opportunity.
C.Help your teenager find his or her passion.
D.However, not all friends can be really depended on.
E.New friends mean new opportunities and social situations.
F.Do your best to prepare your son or daughter for what that means.
G.If you aren't using a budget, it'll be difficult to convince your kid to use one.

Four ways to Improve Your Memory
Have you ever imagined the benefits that a good memory can bring to you? Being able to remember important pieces of information can give you a powerful advantage in your life.___16__. Here are four ways to improve your memory:
Make the most of your imagination. ___17___For example, to remember where you have left your car keys, pretend to hold a camera to your eyes, focus on the scene, and click the image into your memory when you are leaving. This technique works with almost everything you want to remember, as the roll of films in your mind is endless.
Try to practice. There are lots of ways to do this: try to remember which day of the week your last birthday was.__18___Try to remember all the ping-pong finalists and the winner. If you can try to remember the scores as well, it would be even better to practice. It won’t be long before your daily practice pays off, making your mind sharper and more adaptable.
Get physical exercise. Physical exercise not only improves memory but also helps you think faster. A combination of mental and physical activity can protect your memory. It is known that the brain’s processing speed gradually slows as you age.____19____
__20______Mental exercises are as important as physical ones to keep one’s brain power. Take up word games like crossword puzzles. Memorize favorite poems and read challenging books or articles that encourage you to expand your interests. Any activity that requires you to think and concentrate will challenge your brain. And your brain will develop better on the challenge.
A. Exercise your brain.111]
B. Play more games.
C. Fortunately, staying physically fit can avoid some of the effects of age on the brain.
D. In fact, the ability to remember things is necessary to your success.
E. Then extend this to the birthdays of all your family members.
F. An easy way to remember something is to “take a picture”.
G. If you are right-handed , try to brush your teeth with your left hand.
