Six-year-old Matthew Parker was in need of a kidney (肾) transplant, and his family looked all over the country for a suitable donor. Up to 80 people signed up to give up a living 41 for the first-grader. Coincidentally, the person 42 to donate a kidney to Matthew was his teacher, Lindesy Painter.
Matthew had been on the transplant 43 for a long time and developed antibodies (抗体) to most kidneys, it was 44 to find a match for him. The doctor had warned the family to be “ 45 ” and used the term “a needle in a haystack (干草堆)” several times.
When 46 were asked to be tested, Painter was the first one to sign up. 47 the teacher learned the result, she had to get several tests done. She was astonished when she got a 48 back saying she was a “perfect 49 .”
Painter made the decision 50 . She knew that Matthew’s kidneys were 51 , and she empathized with anyone going through this. It was especially hard for her to 52 the condition affecting one of her two sons.

The operations for the kidney donation would 58 in the following month. Matthew’s mother said, “My son’s new kidney means a special 59 between student and teacher that goes far 60 the classroom.”

How do people traditionally manufactur
e (制造) things? They usually start with a sheet of metal, wood or other material and cut, drill (钻) and shave it to create a desired shape. Sometimes, they use a mold (模具) made of metal or sand, pour liquid plastic or metal into it and let it cool to create a solid part.
Now, a completely different method is gaining popularity.
On Oct. 9, 2013, London Science Museum kicked off its new exhibition, 3-D: Printing the
Future, with over 600 3-D printed objects on display, including space probes (探测器), toy dolls and even human organs – basically any product you can think of, reported Live Science.
You might find it hard to believe that an object can actually be “printed out” like a picture. But it is not that hard to understand how it works. Just as a traditional printer sprays (喷洒) ink onto paper line by line, modern 3-D printers spread material onto a surface layer by layer, from the bottom to the top, gradually building up a shape.
Instead of ink, the materials the 3-D printer uses are mainly plastic, resin (树脂) and certain metals. The thinner each layer is – from a millimeter to less than the width of a hair – the smoother and finer the object will be. And objects always come out in one piece, sparing you the trouble of putting different parts together afterward.
For example, 10 years ago a desktop 3-D
printer might have cost £20,000 (200,000 yuan), while now it costs only about £1,000, according to the BBC. In fact, 3-D printers have been around for some time, but until recently they hadn’t been very popular since few people could afford them. Last year, though, saw a big decrease in the price of 3-D printers.
However, as 3-D printing technology becomes more commonplace, it may trigger certain problems. One of them is piracy (盗版). “Once you can download a coffee maker, or print out a new set of kitchen utensils (餐具) on your personal 3-D printer, who will visit a retail (零售的) store again?” an expert on 3-D printing told Forbes News.
Even more frightening, the world’s first 3-D printed gun was successfully fired in the US in May of this year, which means that 3-D printing could potentially give more people access to weapons.
64. Accor
ding to the article, in the future, 3-D printing technology will probably ______.
A. change the way people make products
B. be applied as widely in our daily lives as computers
C. forbid many countries to make purchases of weapons
D. take the place of normal printers and save lots of energy
65. What was the big event that happened in the 3-D printing industry last year?
A. Over 600 3-D printed objects were on display in an exhibition.
B. 3-D printing technology came to be used in various fields.
C. T
he world’s first 3-D printed gun was successfully made.
D. The 3-D printer became more affordable for consumers.
66. What is the author’s attitude toward 3-D printing technology?
A. Amused. B. Objective. C. Supportive. D. Negative.

Some of us is having problems with our parents, as they often look for our school bags. I fully understand when we are not comfortable about it, but there is no need to feel too sadly. Our parents check our bags to make it sure we’re not getting into trouble. They had probably heard some horrible stories about other kid and think we might do the same. Or perhaps they just want to connect with us and are doing it all wrong. I suggest that we telling them we want them to trust us as much we’d like to trust them.

Last Monday,
When I first got an e-mail account ten years ago, I received communications only from family, friends, and colleagues. Now it seems that every time I check my e-mail, I have an endless series of advertisements and other correspondence that do not interest me at all. If we want e-mail to continue to be useful, we need specific laws that make spamming(发送垃圾邮件) a crime.
If lawmakers do not do something soon to prohibit spam, the problem will certainly get much worse. Computer programs allow spammers to send hundreds of millions of e-mails almost instantly. As more and more advertisers turn to spam to sell their products, individual(个人的) e-mail boxes are often flooded with spam e-mails. Would people continue to use e-mail if they had to deal with an annoying amount of spam each time?
This problem is troubling for individuals and companies as well. Many spam e-mails contain computer viruses that can shut down the entire network of a company. Companies rely on e-mail for their employees to communicate with each other. Spam frequently causes failures in their local communications networks, and their employees are thus unable to communicate effectively. Such a situation results in a loss of productivity and requires companies to repeatedly repair their networks. These computer problems raise production costs of companies, which are, in the end, passes on to the consumer.
For these reasons, I believe that lawmakers need to legislate (立法) against spam. Spammers should be fined, and perhaps sent to prison if they continue to disturb people. E-mail is a tool which helps people all over the world to communicate conveniently, but spam is destroying this convenience.
13. According to the text, what is the major cause of the flooding spam?
A. Companies rely on e-mail for communications.
B. More people in the world communicate by e-mail.
C. More advertisers begin to promote sales through spam.
D. Many computer viruses contain spam e-mail.
14. According to Paragraph 3, who is the final victim of spam?
A. The business B. The advertiser C. The consumer D. The employee
15. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To inform B. To educate C. To instruct D. To persuade

The Internet was first established in the 1960s.At that time, the computer was both larger and expensive and the networks were unable to work well. If one of the computers breaks down, the whole networks would be unable to work. At first, the Internet was just used as the government. By 1970s, it have been used in universities, banks and hospital. At the beginning of 1990s, computers became both cheaper and easier to operate it. Now it is very convenient to log on the Internet. Which is said that each day tens of millions of people log on the Internet. Send e-mails is becoming more and more popular among people. The Internet has become the most important part of people's life and is playing the important role.
When a child is told he is “uncool”, it can be very painful. He may say he doesn’t care, and even act in ways that are opposite of cool on purpose. But these are simple ways to handle sadness by pretending it’s not there.
Helping a child feel better in school had to be careful. If you say, “Why are you worried about what other children think about you? It doesn’t matter!” Children know that it does matter. Instead, an active way may be best. You could say, “I’m going to do a couple of things for you to help you feel better in school.”
If a boy is having trouble making friends, the teacher can help him. The teacher can arrange things so that he has chances to use his abilities to contribute to class projects. This is how the other children learn how to value his good qualities and to like him. A teacher can also raise a child’s popularity in the group by showing that he values that child. It even helps to put him in a seat next to a very popular child, or let him be a partner with that child in activities, etc.
There are things that parents can do at home, too. Be friendly when your child brings others home to play. Encourage him to invite friends to meals and then serve the dishes they consider “super” .When you plan trips, picnics, movies, and other shows, invite another child with whom your child wants to be friends.
What you can do is to give him a chance to join a group that may be shutting him out. Then, if he has good qualities, he can start to build real friendship of his own.
51. A child who has been informed of being “ uncool” may .

A. seeing the child as the teacher’s favorite
B. asking the child to do something for partners
C. forcing other children to make friends with the child
D. offering the child chances to show his good qualities
53. How can parents help their child fit in better?
A. By cooking delicious food for him. B. By being kind to his schoolmates.
C. By forcing him to invite friends home. D. By taking him to have picnics in the park.
54. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. Children don’t care others’ comments on them.
B. It’s only teacher’s work to make children popular.
C. Parents should take their children out for picnic and shows more often.
D. Inviting children’s friends to family activities is good for them to make friends.
