A small piece of fish each day may keep the heart doctor away. That’s the finding of a scientific study of Dutch men in which deaths from heart disease were more than 50 percent lower among those who ate at least an ounce of salt water fish per day than those who never ate fish.
The Dutch research is one of three human studies that hold the belief that eating fish can provide health benefits, particularly to the heart. Heart disease is the number-one killer in the United States, with more than 550,000 deaths from heart attacks each year. But researchers have noticed that the rate of heart disease is lower in countries that eat more fish than Americans do. There are fewer heart disease deaths, for example, among the Eskimos of Greenland, who eat about 14 ounces of fish a day, and among the Japanese, who daily eat fish about more than 3 ounces.
For 20 years, the Dutch study followed 852 middle-aged men, 20 percent of whom ate no fish.
At the start of the study, the average fish consumption (消耗) was about two-thirds of an ounce each day with more men eating thin fish than fatty fish.
During the next two decades(十年), 78 of the men died from heart disease. The fewest deaths were among the group who regularly ate fish, even far lower than those of the Japanese or Eskimos. This relationship was true, not considering other factors(因素) such as age, high blood pressure, or blood cholesterol.
25. Which of the following is NOT true according to the text?
A. The Dutch research has proved that eating fish can help to prevent heart disease.
B. Heart doctors won’t call at your house so long as you keep eating fish each day.
C. Among all the diseases, heart disease is the most dangerous in America.
D. There is a low rate of heart disease in Japan and Greenland.
26. The text is mainly about ________.
A. the high rate of heart disease
B. the great changed in people’s diet
C. the fish consumption in some countries
D. the influence of fish eating on people’s health
27. How many lives could probably be saved each year in the United States by eating fish according to the Dutch study?
A. 152,000 B. 110,000 C. 275,000 D. 550,000
28. We can conclude that _______.
A. heart disease usually happens in America
B. no heart disease happens in Japan and Greenland
C. high blood pressure can make people die
D. eating fish regularly can make people live longer

Hold Your Head Up High
Hold your head up high I was 15 months old, a happy and carefree kid, until the day I fell. It was a bad fall. I landed on a piece of glass that cut my eye badly. from then on, my injured, sightless, cloudy gray eye lived on with me.
Sometimes people asked me embarrassing(使人难堪的)questions. Whenever kids played games, I was the "monster". I was always imagining that everyone looked down on(瞧不起)me.
Yet mum would say to me, "Hold your head up high and face the world." I began to depend on that saying.
As a child, I thought mum meant, "Be careful, or you will fall down or bump into something because you are not looking." As a teenager, I usually looked down to hide my shame. But I found that when I held my head up high, People liked me.
In high school I even became the class president, but on the inside I still felt like a monster. All I really wanted was to look like everyone else. When things got really bad, I would cry to my mum and she would look at me with loving eyes and say, “Hold your head up high and face the world. Let them see the beauty that is inside instead of your appearance(外貌).”
My mum's love was the sunshine that made me bright. I had faced hard times, and learned not only to be confident(自信的) but also to have deep compassion(同情)for others.

In fact, Santa won’t give Bradley anything but socks, and bad, bad Bradley is bored. So he sets out to trap Santa and steal all the toys that Santa is carrying for good girls and boys. The book is filled with clever ideas, but we think the best part is that it will help you come up with more of your own.

Quick tips for better time management
Are you a good time manager? If your answer is “no”, here are some tips on how to be a better time manager:
1. Create a daily plan. Plan your day before it starts. The plan gives you a good description of how the day will go on. That way, you will be ready to deal with most of the things you meet. 36
2. Focus. Are you multi-tasking so much that you’re just not getting anything done? 37 Only focus on what you’re doing. You’ll be more efficient that way.
3. Stay away from your time wasters. What takes your time away from your work? QQ? Email checking? 38 One thing you can do is make it hard to check them — remove them from your browser quick links.
4. 39 Don’t take on more than you can deal with. For the distractions that come in when you’re doing other things, give a firm no. Or do it later.
5. Decide to be early. When you prepare to be on time, you’ll either be on time or late. 40 However, if you decide to be early, you’ll most likely to be on time. For appointments, try to be early. For your deadlines, meet them earlier than required.
A. Learn to say “No”.
B. Cut off when you need to.
C. Stop checking them so often.
D. Most of the time you’ll be late.
E. Great ways to know your time spent.
F. If so, focus on just one key task at one time.
G. Your job for the day is to follow the plan as best as possible.

Imagine walking to your local park on a warm summer afternoon and sitting down under a tree with a good book and a freshly picked apple. That is exactly what the clever minds behind Seattle’s Beacon Food Forest Project are hoping to do for all its residents(居民)in the near future.
The project is just 2.5 miles from the center of Seattle, close to the city’s popular Jefferson Park. It was started in February, 2012 and is being developed on seven acres(英亩)of land. Using $100,000 from the US government, hundreds of volunteers are working hard, developing the first two acres of the food forest. So far, the park that will be open to the public later this summer is home to 35 trees. They are expected to start producing fruits next year. The volunteers have also completed a large amount of decoration work to make the park more attractive.
Besides delicious fruits like strawberries and apples, residents will also be able to pick vegetables and even tree nuts. When the park is completely developed, it will be home to as many as 200 types of useful plants. And it will also include 50 individual gardens and a special area for free and paid workshops on a lot of different topics. There will also be special areas for picnics and for kids to play in, after they have had a freshly picked piece of fruit of course!
When it is completed, according to Glen Herlihy, a local resident, the park will be nice, although a little denser(更茂密的)than a normal park. After walking up two ways in a V-shape, the brides met their husbands for their ceremonies, which were followed by a huge party for 180 people. And because they had one large wedding instead of two, the family managed to save a quarter of the cost of the £8,000 event.

So it was a bit of a relief(放松) when he said he wanted to have a double wedding with my mum and her husband Barry. If English means endless new words, difficult grammar and sometimes strange pronunciation, you are wrong. Haven’t you noticed that you have become smarter since you started to learn a language?
According to a new study by a British university, learning a second language can lead to an increase in your brain power. Researchers found that learning other languages changes grey matter. This is the area of the brain which processes(处理) information. It is similar to the way that exercise builds muscles(肌肉).
The study also found the effect is greater when the younger people learn a second language. A team led by Dr. Andrea Mechelli, from University College London, took a group of Britons who only spoke English. They were compared with a group of “early bilinguals” who had learnt a second language before the age of five, as well as a number of later learners. Scans showed that grey matter density (密度) in the brain was greater in bilinguals than in people without a second language. But the longer a person waited before mastering a new language, the smaller the difference.“Our findings suggest that the structure(结构)of the brain is changed by the experience of learning a second language,” said the scientists.
It means that the change itself increases the ability to learn. Professor Dylan Vaughan Jones of the University of Wales, has researched the link between bilingualism and maths skills. “Having two languages gives you two windows on the world and makes the brain more flexible (灵活的),” he said. “You are actually going beyond language and have a better understanding of different ideas.”
The findings had the same result in a study of native Italian speakers who had learned English as a second language between the ages of two and thirty-four. Reading, writing, and comprehension were all tested. The results showed that the younger they started to learn, the better. “Studying a language means you get an entrance to another world,” explained the scientists.
32.The main idea of this passage is ________.
A. science on learning a second language B. man’s ability of learning a second language
C. that language can help brain power D. language learning and maths study
33. The underlined word “bilingual” probably means _______.

C. a person who can speak two languages D. an active language learner
34. We may know from the scientific findings that ________.
A. the earlier you start to learn a second language, the higher the grey matter density is
B. there is no difference between a later second language learner and one who doesn’t know a second
language
C. the experience of learning a second language has bad effect on people’s brain
D. the ability of learning a second language is changing all the time
35. In the last two paragraphs, the author wants to tell us that _________.
A. learning a second language is the same as studying maths
B. early learning of a second language helps you a great deal in studying other subjects
C. Italian is the best choice for you as a second language
D. you’d better choose the ages between 2 and 34 to learn a second language

The United Nations agency estimates that in 2015, 42 million children under age 5 were either overweight or obese. ple, the number of people who consumed sugary drinks dropped by 17 percent.
The WHO says people should limit the amount of sugar they consume. It says they should keep their sugar intake to below 10 percent of their total energy needs, and reduce it to less than 5 percent for improved health.
