How are you doing these days I'm writing to tell you something about my English teacher Miss Liu.
Miss Liu is a popular teacher who are always kind to us.Unfortunate, she was hurt badly when trying to save a student from an car accident and has lain in bed for almost one year.
Last Saturday afternoon,my classmates and I went to Miss Liu's home to celebrate his birthday. She was moved to tears when she saw us.We first sang "Happy Birthday" and then give her flowers and other present we had made. Seating around her,we discussed our studies but looked forward to our future together. We left around six.
We had a great time and I'm happy that Miss Liu is recovering very good.
Did you have some interested things last week?Would you like to tell me about them?

Short afterwards ,we got involved in various activity. One of them were jumping across a broken bridge. I was afraid of at first, so with the encouragement of the coach, I finally made it. What impressed myself most was climbing over a wall to “escape”. We helped one another and all of us manage to “survive”. Before we left the center, we had a photo taking to record the unforgettable experience, that gave us a good change to build up courage and improve our sense or teamwork.

While inventions like the wheel and the Internet have changed the way the world works today, there are some creations that never quite got off the ground. Let’s look at the strangest inventions from across the globe.
THE TOMATO-FEEDING ROBOT
Japanese juice seller, Kagome, invented a robot that will feed you tomatoes with its long metal arms extended on either side of your face while you run. Originally created for the Tokyo Marathon, the robot even has a timer so that tomato-eating runners won’t use up their supply too quickly.
THE ROLLING BENCH
It’s lunchtime and many people may be looking for a park bench to sit on, but the rain has made every surface humid. This is when the rolling bench comes in. When one side is too wet, a handle on the side can roll up another dry side for better sitting conditions. The inventions come from designer Sung Woo Park, from Seoul in South Korea.
THE LED SLIPPERS(拖鞋)
We all hate hurting our toes in the dark, but a revolutionary footwear design can prevent this from happening again. The slightly strange LED slippers are designed to be comfortable, yet shine your path at night. With two in-built LED lights at the top of each slipper, the users can direct their toes at any area that needs light.
THE FOOT-POWERED BICYCLE
It’s the unusual invention of German designers Tom Hambrock and Juri Spetter. Besides an unusual appearance, its function is also slightly strange, as the user must run to get the bicycle moving. As soon as the riders have enough momentum(动力), they’re able to rest their feet on the back wheel and use the handlebars to control its direction.
56. What can we know about the tomato-feeding robot from the text?

D. They can serve us in different ways.
In many countries, ___61___ is not unusual for families of different backgrounds to live together
in the shared space. ___62___, in the United States, this idea may still be considered odd.
But this type of housing, ___63___(call) co-housing, is gaining ___64___ (popular) in the United States, too. Co-housing complexes are popping up across the country. For many people, this way of
life is a relief to the busy modern lifestyle. A co-hous
ing community has ___65___ (private)
owned houses and shared land. There is often 66 “common house” with a ki
tchen and dining
room, meeting room, and maybe a workshop of library or music room. About 25 co-housing communities
___67___ (build) in recent years, and 150 more are planned. A co-housing complex is a place ___68___ residents shop, cook, and eat together. Residents of a
co-housing complex like its sense of shared community. Children have other kids to play ___69___, which many families like. Other residents like the feeling of living in a “ village”. Residents also say that they can live in co-housing for ___70 ___ money than they would pay for nearby apartments.

It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005.While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of work, he returned to find his bike gone.
The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries(食品杂货),saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live.
I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our city offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it made our confidence in humanity(人性)as a whole. And it has influenced(影响) us to be more mindful of ways we can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.
24. Why was the bike so important to the couple?
A.The man"s job was bike racing.B.It was there only possession
C.It was a nice Kona18 speed.D.They used it for work and daily life.
25. We can learn from the text that .
A.the couple worked 60 hours a week. B.people were busy before Christmas
C.the stranger brought over the bike. D.life was hard for the young family.
26. How did people get to know the couple"s problem?
A.From radio broadcasts. B.From a newspaper. C.From TV news. D.From a stranger.
27. What do the couple learn from their experience?
A.Strangers are usually of little help. B.One should take care of their bike.
C.News reports make people famous. D.An act of kindness can mean a lot.

London has more than nine million visitors every year. They come and visit some of the most famous places in England: Big Ben, the Tower of London and the River Thames.
You can see some of the most interesting places in London by getting on the tour buses. Or you can take a ride on the London Eye. This large wheel slowly takes you 135m above the River Thames.
The River Thames is London’s main waterway. It has shaped the capital’s landscape, history and geography. So one of the best ways of making sense of the city is to take a trip along the river.
The clock tower of the House of Parliament, Big Ben, has become one of the main symbols of London. The sound of the bell, which you can hear at the beginning of many television and radio programmes has become well-known throughout the nation.
No visit to London is complete without a look at the Tower of London, in the eastern part of the city. After Big Ben, the Tower may be London’s most visited tourist spot. Directly south is Tower Bridge, which is more than 100 years old.
Among all the palaces in London, Buckingham Palace is the most famous. It has been the main London home of the royal family since Queen Victoria moved there in 1837. You can visit some of the rooms in August and September. And most mornings of the year you can watch the soldiers outside changing the guard.
About one hour by train out of London is the town of Windsor. Here you can visit another of the Queen’s homes---Windsor Castle. There was a fire in 1992 and many of the rooms were badly burned. But now they are full of beautiful pictures, tables and chairs again.
Sightseeing in London is great, but it can get very tiring. So, the best way to start the day is to fill up with an English breakfast.
You can buy an English breakfast in nearly every hotel, and at many restaurants and cafes. An English pub is a good place to stop for lunch and a drink. You can get hot or cold food and try one of England’s many ales (浓啤酒). Fish and chips are also a traditional English meal. So look out for fish and chip shops in cities as well as by the sea.
Or you can sit outside one of the many roadside pubs and cafes in London, and simply watch the busy world go by.
27. The underlined word “landscape”(paragraph3) is closest in meaning to ______.
A. sights B. interest C. growth D. travel
28. Which place may be London’s most visited tourist spot?
A. The River Thames B. The Tower of London
C. Buckingham Palace D. Big Ben
29. If you go to London in December, you will not be able to ______.
A. visit Windsor Castle
B. tour the Buckingham Palace
C. tour the city along the River Thames
D. watch the soldiers outside changing guards
30. We can learn from the text that _______________.
A. the sound of the Big Ben can be heard everywhere
B. Windsor Castle has been rebuilt
C. only some of the hotels in England serve breakfast
D. the London Eye can carry you where you like to go
The 2016 State of North America’s Birds report was published by the North American Bird Conservation Initiative(NABCI) last Wednesday at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa, Canada. The report-for the first time-assesses(评估)conservation status of 1,154 native bird species that occur in Canada, the continental United States, and Mexico, as well as oceanic birds that occur off these three countries. However, the findings were distressing. Over one—third of all North America bird species are most at risk of extinction without significant conservation action.
“North American migratory birds(候鸟)are on the decline (下降). But these birds link us, they unite us, and we have a shared duty to them and to the environments they are closely tied in with, so it requires international teamwork,” said Christian Artuso, a biologist at Bird Studies Canada. “This will come back to bite us if we don’t deal with it while we still have a chance.”
The threat to bird populations has brought nations together to try and save them from extinction. “Canada, the United States, and Mexico share an amazing wealth of birds. And not one of them carries a passport,” said Catherine McKenna, Canadian federal Environment and Climate Change Minister. “Partnerships like this allow us to ‘spread our wings’ beyond our own nests.”
This week policymakers, scientists, and nonprofit leaders met in Ottawa, Canada, to discuss the results of the study and how to increase conservation efforts in the continent.
The authors recommend various ways to take action to save the homes of at-risk birds. For seabirds, the report suggests expanding protected areas in the sea, signing agreements to cut plastics pollution, managing fisheries to protect fish populations upon which the birds feed, and making sure the birds do not get caught in fishing lines or nets.
“The thing about migratory birds is they connect us. What we do up here in Canada affects what goes on down in the southern US and Mexico and even further beyond, throughout the whole hemisphere(半球),” said Artuso.
32. What does the underlined word “distressing” in the first paragraph mean?
A. Boring B. Exciting
C. Upsetting D. Interesting
33. What does the teamwork mentioned by Artuso probably aim to do?
A. Study bird species B. Protect migratory birds
C. Help international biologists D. Create a competitive environment
34. What can we infer about Mckenna’s words?
A. She wanted birds to fly beyond their nests.
B. She was curious about birds in the three countries
C. She hoped the three countries could work together
D. She believed passports were sometimes unnecessary
35. How is Paragraph 5 mainly developed?
A. By providing examples B. By giving descriptions
C. By analyzing causes D. By making comparisons.
Everybody has to face bad days in their life. Some face ailments, some face fears, some face poverty, some face helplessness etc. No one can escape from it. It is a rule of life. Two things always combines together, like joy and sadness, laugh and cry, health and illness, profit and loss, morning and night, victory and failure, likewise good days and bad days.
You know what is the biggest advantage of bad days? You come to know GOD. What is God? What he can do? He is so friendly, understanding, loving and moreover God is the Superman who can do anything in a second. Yes, true, he can do anything. He is the only light in darkness. God always forgives and never complaint whether you ignore him many times. That is why, for me, God is the only best and faithful friend who never cheats.
When bad days come, even if a person first of all cannot understand what is going on. Why me? But after some time he realizes his strength and start doing every single thing to come out of it. When he comes out, that journey is though very painful. However, when you get through it, you will find your journey very meaningful, and you will feel like it’s your rebirth. You have totally changed your thoughts and your viewpoints, and you can understand life better. You get the meaning of your life. In short, you start becoming wise.
The biggest lesson of life during bad days for me is that a person becomes spiritual and a giver who he wasn't before. Life means to create. First think what you want in your life, then start giving the same think. This is one of the most important thing I have learnt in my life. You want love then start spreading it; you want money then start giving to needy, you want happiness then start doing all things that bring happiness. Everything is in your hand and you only need to give first. If you don't have everything, then give or share what you have. Still you feel you have nothing to share, and then give smile. You can't imagine that your smile can do wonder for someone. So start smiling from today onwards.
The most beautiful lesson I have learnt in my life is that if you are in pain, remember one thing: the time is though to be hard but it would be the best time of your life. You know why we have to face hard days? Did you think about it? No!!!! Ok I will tell you. We always forget two unforgettable things. The first is God and second is family. Nowadays money is everything. Money is important, in fact very important but it is not the whole life, so why do we spend the whole life in earning money? How long will we live? So don’t let he day pass without enjoying it.
One thing I must share with you is that if you want to grow and learn more than you know, then do whatever you want but beyond your comfort zone. Always try to think that I can, and then nothing is impossible for you. Difficulty is in the mind but not in work. You know one thing when we accept life as it comes, or we accept that everything happens for a reason or for our betterment. Believe me, you will find your hard days as an adventure but you need to trust God and in the end you will find yourself a winner.
62. According to the author, when you are in bad days, you might ask for help from_____
A. family members B. friendly people C. understanding men D. a spirit like God
63. The author may agree to the following opinions EXCEPT that______.
A. bad days can destroy all people
B. smiling can change your life
C. bad days can help you become wise
D. bad days can change people’s thoughts and viewpoints
64. Which opinion of life is in agreement with the author’s?
A. Lily insist that family is more important than God
B. Mr Smith believes that money is the most important of all
C. Mary gives up her love due to the pressure from her parents
D. Tom thinks difficulties in life can be removed once you take action
65. From the last paragraph we can infer that to be a winner,______.
A. you must think twice before taking action
B. you must believe that no difficulty actually exists at all
C. you can stay in your comfort zone thinking about what you are doing
D. you must believe that ups and downs in life are only to help you move forward
