高一英语下学期下册试题

On the last day before Christmas, I hurried to go to the supermarket to buy Christmas gifts. In the supermarket, I noticed a little boy, holding a doll and looking so sad. He turned to the old woman next to him, “Granny, are you sure I don’t have enough money?” The old lady replied, “You know we don’t have enough money to buy this doll, my dear.” Then she left for something else and the boy still stood there.

Finally, I went to the boy and asked him who he wanted to give this doll to. “It is the doll that my sister wanted so much for this Christmas. She was so sure that Father Christmas would bring it to her. ”

I told him that maybe Father Christmas will bring it to her. But he replied to me sadly, “No, Father Christmas cannot bring it to her where she is now. I have to give the doll to my mother so that she can give it to her when she goes there. My sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mummy will also go to see God very soon, so I thought that she could bring the doll with her to give it to my sister.”

Hearing this, I quickly reached into my wallet and took a few notes and said to the boy, “What if we checked again, just in case if you have enough money?”

“OK,” he said, “I hope that I have enough.”

I added some of my money to his without his seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll.

The little boy said, “Thank God for giving me enough money.”

Then he looked at me and added, “I prayed to God yesterday before I slept to make sure I have enough money to buy this doll. He heard me.”

A. He lost his money.                                 B. His Granny wasn’t kind to him.

A. the boy’s sister was ill                       B. the boy’s sister was dead

C. the boy’s mother was dead                    D. the boy’s father will die

30. What did the writer do to help the little boy?

A. He gave him a Christmas gift.                                  B. He lent him some money.

C. He gave him some money in a secret way.             D. He bought the doll for him.

31. In the end the boy thanked God instead of the writer because ________.

A. he thought it was God that had helped him

Almost 400 years ago, an Italian scientist names Galileo(伽利略) began to question Aristotle’s(亚里斯多德) theories of falling objects. He was not ready to believe anything just because Aristotle said so. He decided to do some experiments test Aristotle’s theory. Galileo lived in a city of Pisa, which there is a leaning tower about 180 feet in height. From the top of the tower Galileo dropped a light ball and a heavy ball at exact the same time. They both fell at about the same speed and hit the ground together. As we know it now, heavy objects and light objects fall at the same speed if air holds them back. A feather falls slower than a stone only because the air holds the feather back more than it did the stone.

When I was six, Dad brought home a dog one day, who was called "Brownie". My brothers and I all loved Brownie and did different things with her. One of us would walk her, another would feed her, then there were baths, playing catch and many other games. Brownie, in return, loved each and every one of us. One thing that most touched my heart was that she would go to whoever was sick and just be with them. We always felt better when she was around.

One day, as I was getting her food, she chewed up (咬破) one of my Dad's shoes, which had to be thrown away in the end. I knew Dad would be mad and I had to let her know what she did was wrong. When I looked at her and said, “Bad girl,” she looked down at the ground and then went and hid. I saw a tear in her eyes.

Brownie turned out to be more than just our family pet. She went everywhere with us. People would stop and ask if they could pet her. Of course she'd let anyone pet her. She was just the most lovable dog. There were many times when we'd be out walking and a small child would come over and pull on her hair. She never barked () or tried to get away. Funny thing is that she would smile. This frightened people because they thought she was showing her teeth. Far from the truth, she loved everyone.

Now many years have passed since Brownie died of old age. I still miss the days when she was with us.

You want to run across the street to catch the bus which is leaving soon? But wait! You’d better not. If a policeman sees you, you’ll have to pay a fine. New traffic laws say that if people cross the street when the light is red, they can be fined as much as 50 yuan.

Traffic accidents killed more than 100,000 people in China one year. Chinese cities have more cars than ever. Drivers and pedestrians must work together to make the streets safer.

The law has new rules for drivers and pedestrians. Drivers have to slow down when they are close to crosswalks. If people are in a crosswalk, cars must stop to let them pass. There are rules for bus drivers, too. If bus drivers, smoke, drink or make phone calls while driving, they can be fined. Buses that carry too many people are also against the law.

Pedestrians will have to walk more safely under the new law. They must cross streets at crosswalks. Also, they shouldn’t climb over the fences (栅栏) along streets.

Do you bike to school? It’s not a good idea to carry classmates on the back. You could be fined 50 yuan. And stay in the bike lane (车道), when you’ re riding. The big roads are for cars and buses.

Do you like to ride your uncle’s motorbike? When you put on your helmet (头盔), ask him to put one on, too. People on motorbikes must wear helmets, the new law says. If they don’t, they’ll have to pay 200 yuan.

Do you ride in cars often? Don’t forget to put on your seat belt (安全带), even if you’re going for a short taxi ride. It could save your life.

If you see a hit-and-run(肇事逃逸), tell the police. They may give you a reward (奖赏).And don’t be afraid to help people to the hospital if they are hurt in an accident. Don’t worry about money. The new law says that doctors must take care of them even if they can’t pay right away.

I   77   (weep), but when we landed the woman said, “We are going to the information desk on the ground floor.”

She told me, “Only one plane is leaving and it is going to Amsterdam.” We ran across the airport, through check-outs and up lifts before she   78   (final) declared, “Here’s your plane to Amsterdam. Have a good holiday.” I thanked and kissed her. The strike lasted more than two months but I made   79   to my daughter’s home, thanks to a lady that I had never met before   80   cared enough to help.

If you have ever been left wondering why your emails are riddled(充斥着) with grammatical errors, or why you can never quite find the right phrase, it may be because you are typing with both hands.

Our vocabulary becomes richer and our writing style becomes more fluent when we type using just one hand, scientists have found. "Typing can be too fluent or too fast, and it can actually weaken the writing process," said Srdan Medimorec, the lead author of the study conducted at the department of psychology at the University of Waterloo, Canada. "It seems that what we write is a product of the interaction(互动) between our thoughts and the tools we use to express them."

Using text-analysis software, researchers asked 103 university students to write essays under different conditions, using one hand to type and using both hands to type. The software was used to analyze(分析) elements of the essays, such as range of vocabulary, sentence complexity and the cohesion(衔接) of the writing.

Researchers found that participants' vocabulary became more advanced when they typed with one hand rather

than two. The research team said that by slowing our writing down, typing one-handed allows more time for an internal (内在的) word search, resulting in a larger variety of words.

In contrast, fast typists might just write the first word that comes to mind. However, it is important not to slow typing down too much. Those who typed essays one-handed in the current study slowed down to about the speed of handwriting.

This is the first study to show that changing people’s typing can make their writing get better. The researchers suggested that the speed of writing could affect writing quality regardless of the tools used, whether they are computers, or pen and paper, although further research would be required to prove that idea.

32. The underlined “it” in the second paragraph refers to______.

A. the writing style                            B. typing too fast or fluently

B. The researchers drew the conclusion by interviewing students about their feelings in

  the writing process.

C. The typing speed should be as slow as possible.

D. There is no previous study related to the topic before.

34. What is the author’s attitude to the research according to the passage?

A. objective             B. doubtful            C. critical           D. supportive

35. Which is the best title of the passage?

A. How to become a good writer?

B. Typing with both hands could make you a worse writer.

The way we cook is important. In many countries, the two choices are   71   (nature) gas or electric-powered stoves.

The World Health Organization warns that millions of people  72   (suffer) from indoor air pollution at present time, which results from the use of  73   (danger) fuels and cook-stoves in the home.

WHO officials say nearly three billion people are 74   (able) to use clean fuels and technologies for cooking heating and lighting. As a result, more than seven million people die from exposure to indoor or outdoor air pollution each year. Most of the deaths are in   75   develop countries, such as lndia, China and Latin American countries.

WHO officials say opening a window or door   76   letout the harmful air will not correct the situation   77   will only pollute the outdoors.

Nigel Bruce,   78   is a professor of Public Health at the University of Liverpool, says researchers are developing good cook-stoves and other equipment to burn fuels   79   a more efficient way.

But, this is just a start. It is urging developing countries to use   80   (clean) fuels and increase access to cleaner and more modern cooking and heating appliances(用具).

How to Be an Effective Member of a Team

Working in a team can be rewarding, but at times it can be difficult. To create a successful team, effective communication methods are necessary. Here we’ve outlined some ways to avoid some common team mistakes as well as some helpful advice.

Communicate

___16___ Letting bad feelings brew(酝酿)will only make you feel bad and want to isolate yourself from the group. Not only does it feel good to get the bad feelings out, but it will be better for the team in the long run.

___17___

People in your group will lose respect for you if you’re constantly blaming others for not meeting deadlines. Group members understand if you have a heavy workload and aren’t able to meet a deadline. Saying something like, “I’m really sorry, but I’ll get it to you by the end of today.” will earn you a lot more respect than trying to make it seem like it’s everyone else’s fault that you missed your deadline.

Support group member’s ideas

If a teammate suggests something, always consider it! ___18___ And this makes you a good team member. After all, nobody likes a know-it-all.

Listen Actively

Look at the person who’s speaking to you, nod, ask questions and acknowledge what’s said by paraphrasing points that have been made. If you’re unclear about something that’s been said, ask for more information to clear up any confusion before moving on. Effective communication is a vital part of any team. ___19___.

Get Involved

Share suggestions, ideas, solutions and proposals with your team members. Take the time to help your fellow teammates. You can guarantee there will be a time in the future when you’ll need some help or advice. ___20___.

A. Don’t Blame Others

B. Avoid showing off

C. Thus, the value of good listening skills shouldn’t be ignored.

D. Have faith that people will recognize when good work is being done.

E. If you have a problem with someone in your group, talk to him about it

F. And if you’ve helped them in the past, they’ll be more than happy to lend a helping hand.

G. Considering the group’s ideas shows you’re interested in other people’s ideas, not just your own.

High-tech machines have made life easier for millions around the world. However, some people still prefer low-tech ways of doing things. Here's an example of why this is happening. You can microwave a frozen hamburger in 60 seconds. However,it won't taste as good as one you cook on the stove. And if you're in that much of a hurry, you probably won't take time to toast the bun.High-tech cooking saves time, but it doesn't make for better-tasting meals.

Most people get their news from high-tech sources like television or the Internet. This has many advantages. For example, electronic news is more up to date than newspapers or magazines. It's also more exciting to see live and videotaped news events than photographs. However, newspapers and magazines have some important advantages. They give more background and details. They also let you read the parts that are important to you and skip the rest.

Other high-tech time savers have similar disadvantages. For example, most people use the phone or e-mail to stay in touch with friends and family members who live in other places. But when you use the Internet or the phone, you won't always think carefully about what you are saying, and sometimes you forget the important things you want to communicate. Similarly, when you word-process a homework assignment instead of handwriting it,you can check your spelling electronically and put in fancy headings. However, some students are so busy with the computer that they don't pay enough attention to the actual words they are writing.

29.What do we know about high-tech cooking?

A.It can't make much food.                                    B.It is popular with every family.

C.It makes food slower than low-tech cooking.            D.It can't make food as delicious as low-tech cooking.

30.What is an advantage of the news in newspapers compared to that on the Internet?

A.Quick updates.        B.Live news events.           C.Detailed information.             D.Convenient news sources.

31.Which of the following proverbs can summarize the text?

A.Easy come, easy go.       B.Better late than never.           C.Every coin has two sides.      D.I.earn to walk before you run.

76. After the discussion, there is still a problem _______ (尚待)to be solved.

77. In 1399, Henry IV became king of England, whose mother tongue was English, and he used English for all ______(官方) events.

78. He __________(惊慌失措) when he saw the smoke coming out of the car.

79. The play was so gripping that the ___________(观众)quickly identified with the actors.
