Study will be easy if you master the right learning method. Here are six tips for you to improve your study.
Pay attention in class
Do you have trouble paying attention in class? Are you sitting next to a loud person? Tell your teacher or parents about any problem that is preventing you from paying attention.
Take good notes
Write down facts that your teacher mentions or writes on the blackboard. Try to use goo
d handwriting so you can read your notes later. It’s a good idea to keep your notes organized by subject.
Plan ahead for tests and projects
Waiting until Thursday night to study for Friday’s test will make it hard to do your best. One of the best ways to make sure that doesn’t happen is to plan ahead. Write down your test dates. You can then plan how much to do after school each day, and how much time to spend on each topic.
Break it up
When there’s a lot to study, it can help to break things into several parts. Let’s say you have a spelling test on 20 words. Instead of thi
nking about all of the words at once, try breaking them down into five-word groups and work on one or two different groups each night.
Ask for help
You can’t study effectively if you don’t understand the material. Be sure to ask your teacher for help. If you’re at home when the confusion occurs, your mum or dad might be able to help.
Sleep tight
So the test is tomorrow and y
ou’ve followed your study plan—but suddenly you can
’t remember anything! Don’t panic(恐慌). Your brain needs time to digest (消化) all the information you’ve given it. Try to get a good night’s sleep and you’ll be surprised by what comes back to you in the morning.

Will you be playing some music at work?
Music is particularly popular in the medical profession, especially among surgeons(外科医生). A recent survey shows that 90% of surgeons in the UK put music on the sound system in the theatre during operations. Plastic surgeons(整形外科医生)play the most music; it appears that ear, nose, and throat specialists the least.
But it isn’t only in surgeries(外科手术) where music is popular. In another recent survey, one-third of the 1,613 people said they listen to music while working. And 79% of them said that humming(哼歌)along improves their job satisfaction or productivity.
Is listening to music at work a good idea? Yes, say the experts. Many surgeons say that music helps to create a “calm atmosphere”, and a third of them added that it avoids getting bored! Also, listening to music raises the levels of a brain chemical that can help people focus. Office workers say it improves job satisfaction. Several studies suggest that it’s also good for hospital patients. Those listening to music through headphones during surgery require less anesthetic(麻醉剂), up to 50% less in some cases, and recover more quickly afterwards. “Sure, music reduces anxiety before surgery,” says Zeev Kain, an anesthetist at Yale University.
So, what type of music should we be listening to? Surgeons from the previous survey preferred rock, pop music and classical. And hip-hop is popular too. However, whatever the kind, it appears that self-selected music is the best choice. Pennsylvania State University research showed that when people chose their own music there was more stress reduction(下降). And other researchers found that when listening to self-selected music, surgeons did the maths faster and more accurately than when they were listening to music chosen for them.

12.What are the advantages of listening to music at work? ________.
①improving memory
②keeping people relaxed
③improving job satisfaction
④improving eyesight
A. ①④ B. ①② C. ②③ D. ②④
13.How should you choose music for work time according to the passage? ________.
A. Turn to the surgeons for help

I just returned back from Britain last week. I was luckily enough to be one of the students from different country to visit the UK from Feb. 16 to 28. We paid a visit to a good many places, like London, Oxford or the Lake District. I learned much about British culture and history in London, where was my favorite. I also liked Oxford, in which I saw much more old buildings. The Lake District was beautiful, but it was pity that it rained heavily when they were there. The most excited thing for me in Britain was that I make a lot of friends there.
Yours,
Li Ming

Have you ever considered all the English expressions that include words about clothes? Let's have a look.
People wear pants to cover the lower part of their bodies. We sometimes say that people who are nervous have ants in their pants. Sometimes, people may get caught with their pants down. They are found doing something they should not be doing. And,in every family, one person takes control. Sometimes a wife tells her husband what to do. Then we say she wears the pants in the family.
Pants usually have pockets to hold things. Money that is likely to be spent quickly can burn a hole in your pockets. Sometimes you need a belt to hold up your pants. If you have less money than usual, you may have to tighten your belt.
I always praise people who can save their money and not spend too much. I really take my hat off to them. Yet,when it comes to my own money,I spend it at the drop of a hat, which means I instantly spend it.
Boots are a heavy or strong kind of shoes. People who are too big for their boots think they are more important than they really are. I dislike such people.
My father is an important person. He runs a big company. He wears a suit and tie,and a shirt with sleeves that cover his arms. Some people who do not know him well think he is too serious and never shows his feelings openly. But I know that my father wears his heart on his sleeve.

57.Someone who spends his money at the drop of a hat most probably _____.

58.We can use the expression “wear one's heart on one's sleeve” to describe someone who ____.
A. gets angry easily B. looks very serious
C. shows his feelings openly D. often wears a suit and tie
Having experienced a shocking electrical accident, which caused him to become both blind and deaf, James Franco’s world became completely dark and quiet for almost ten years. The loss of sight and hearing threw him into such sorrow that he tried a few times to put an end to his life. His family, especially his wife, did their best to tend and comfort him and finally he regained the will to live.
One hot summer afternoon, he was taking a walk with a stick near his house when a thunderstorm started all at once. He stood under a large tree to avoid getting wet, but he was struck by lightning. Witnesses (目击者) thought he was dead but he woke up 20 minutes later, lying face down in muddy water. He was trembling badly, but when he opened his eyes, he could hardly believe what he saw: a tree and a muddy road. When Mrs. Franco came running up to him, shouting to their neighbors to call for help, he could see her and hear her voice for the first time in nearly ten years.
The news of James regaining his sight and hearing quickly spread and many doctors came to examine him. Most of them said that he regained his sight and hearing from the shock he got from lightning. However, none of them could give a compelling answer as to why this should happen. The only reasonable explanation given by one doctor was that, since James lost his sight and hearing as a result of a sudden shock, perhaps, the only way for him to regain them was by another sudden shock.
29.The reason why James attempted to kill himself was that_______ .
A. a terrible electrical accident happened to him
B. he had to live in a dark and silent world
C. he was struck by lightning once more
D. nobody in the world cared about him

A. Sheltering from the rain under a tree. B. Putting an end to his life.

A. A Terrible Electrical Accident B. James Franco and His Wife
C. An Unforgettable Experience D. What a Sudden Shock
I am glad that everything _____ now so I can go on to the next stage of my plan.

Yesterday, our teacher asked us when
people could be considered old. David said people could be considered old when people got wrinkles (皱纹). However, Mary didn’t 21 . She thought people might gain wrinkles at an earlier age because of their 22 work. Then Lily said that those 23 their 60s or more could be called old people. This time, Emily expressed her doubt(怀疑). She said that some old people might 24 be full of energy and working on their dreams, which made them appear 25 . The class was over and the teacher asked me to continue to 26 it after class. The question 27 me of a famous saying of J. Barrymore: a man isn’t old 28 he
is pursuing (追求) something.
My grandma is such a woman who 29 her dream even when she’s 70 now. She has been keeping her dream of being a painter since she was a little child. 30 , because her family was poor, she had to 31 her dream. She had to work to raise money so as to 32 her family. Though she had never forgotten her dream, she could hardly find any 33 to make it come true because of the tough work. Fortunately, a(n) 34 came when she retired from her work. She 35 taking painting lessons even though she was already old. At first, I was 36 her idea of attending school at such an old age, but after seeing her paint happily and enjoyably, I began feeling it is a good 37 .She looks fine and seems 38 .
So if we have our dreams and try to 39 them, we aren’t old. If we don’t know what we want and let regrets be the 40 point of our lives, then we can be considered old.

Dear Sally,
Now I’d like to tell you something about my part-time job this summer vacation, of which I worked like a guide in a travel agency. The work was interesting but tired. I think it was helpful to work this holiday. It was the first time that I have earned money on my own.I’ve come to understand how hard my parents work to support for the family. I used to keep on ask them for money, but now I’ll never waste money and learn to share worry with my parent. I've learnt how to get along well with others.
What's worse, I've gained some working and social experience and I have learnt something can' t be learnt from textbooks. All these will be good for my future. In a word, I had the wonderful and valuable summer vacation.
Yours,
Li Bing
