It was 37 that students did not write details of how they arrived at their answers or conclusions. I decided to help students write in more detail about what they were thinking when they solved their problems or when they wrote about their ideas.
I chose a common, everyday task that all of us 38 in: choosing what to wear. When I asked them how they decided what they wore that day, there was a(n) 39 moment of silence. It seemed a 40 silly question. A few just said “they wore what they wore.” This was a perfect beginning as it was the same kind of response they were giving as to how they were getting their math answers. I told them how I decided what I wore that day.
First I checked the weather in the paper and by looking outside. I had to decide between wearing a dress or skirt since either one could make a difference in the 41 I wish to give. Most of the girls related to this one. I had to be sure what I wanted to wear was clean and ironed. They 42 no one ironed clothes any more. I had to check to see if I had shoes that went with the possible outfit. I thought about what I had worn 43 as I usually don’t wear the same clothes in the same week. I thought about the color I felt like wearing. I thought about the 44 I would be doing that day both at school and after school.
Each new consideration brought out comments from the students. I could expand on each or just mention it and go on, 45 on how long I wanted the lesson to go. After this discussion, it was clear to students that their thinking process is richer than they first suspected. It was a good lesson for showing details of the thinking process of which we weren’t 46 .
China showed its first-ever passenger jet plane built and designed by the country today to the public-C9lg aircraft(飞行器).
The narrow-body plane is designed to seat 168 passengers, and has a standard flight range of 2,532 miles (4, 075 kilometers) , which means the aircraft can fly non-stop from Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur or from New York City to Los Angeles.
A grand ceremony (仪式) was held in COMAC's brand new factory in Pudong,Shanghai, to celebrate what Chinese experts are calling “a great moment”.

An Australian company,Smart Car Technologies, has developed a system that lets drivers know when they're speeding. When the technology becomes commercially available(可利用的),it could help overspeed drivers avoid tickets and also save lives. The company that developed the product hopes to persuade Australian government agencies to put the technology into use in their automobiles.
The product, called Speed Alert, links realtime location data and speed obtained with the help of GPS to a database of speed limits stored in a driver's PDA or mobile phone. The setup of the product does not need to be connected to a car's speedometer. In fact,it is entirely convenient. It will also work with newer phones and PDAs that have builtin GPS receivers. If a driver exceeds the speed limit, the speed is shown and an alert sounds.
Michael Paine,an Australian vehicle design engineer and traffic safety consultant, was employed to analyze the product. He told Live Science that his colleagues in the road safety field are “very enthusiastic”about what they're now calling “intelligent speed alert”.Other research, according to Paine, shows that 40 percent of all traffic deaths involve speeding. There is also a potentially controversial future use:“Since the system is so convenient,it would be easy to make it a requirement for teenage drivers to always use a speed alert device when driving,”Paine said.“The system even has the ability to record speeding violations(违反),so parents can monitor their teenage drivers.”
The product will soon go on sale in Sydney.
32. What's the purpose of the new product?
A.To inform us of the new car system.
B.To limit certain drivers to safe driving.

35. What can be the best title of the passage?
A.Speed Alert and Its Future Use.
B.Progress in Carmaking Science.
C.New InCar Device against Speeding.
D.Warning for Adventurous Drivers.
Last summer, I was lucky to be one of the students who would take part in a study program in France. I love how people 37 seem so different, but end up being so 38 . The most valuable lesson I gained from studying in France was not just to respect the French 39 to respect all people, for your next best friend could be just a continent away. I would recommend (推荐) an exchange program to anyone who wants to experience foreign cultures and gain meaningful 40 .

Most children now chat daily either online or through their mobile phones. They are connecting to a huge number of other children all over the world. Some are shy "in real life" but are confident to communicate with others online; others find support from people of their own age on relationship problems, or problems at home.
Sometimes the online world, just like the real world, can introduce problems, such as cheating or arguments. Going online is great fun, but there are also a few people who use the Internet to do bad things. Children must know that there are both the good things and the dangers on the Internet.
To keep children safe your management must cover the family computer. Just as you decide which TV programs are suitable, you need to do the same for the websites and chatrooms your children visit. Remind your children that online friends are still strangers and there are dangers too.
Computer studies are part of schoolwork now, so it's likely that your children may know more than you do. We get left behind when it comes to the interactive areas of websites, like chatrooms and message boards, which are especially strange. The language of chat is strange to many parents, too. Chatters love to use abbreviations (缩写) such as: atb--all the best, bbfn--bye bye for now, culSer—see you later, gr8--great, Idk--I don't know, imbl--it must be love, kit--keep in touch, paw--parents are watching, lol-- laugh out loud, xlnt--excellent!

Most American students go to traditional (传统的) public schools. There are about 88, 000 public schools all over the US. Some students attend charter schools.
Charter schools are self governing. Certain companies operate (经营) some charter schools. They are similar in some ways to traditional public schools. They receive tax money just as other public schools do. Charter schools must prove to local or state governments that their students are learning. These governments provide the schools with the agreement called a charter that permits them to operate.
Charter schools are different because they do not have to obey most laws that govern traditional public schools. Each school can choose its own goals and decide what to teach and how to teach them in their own way. Class size is usually smaller than in traditional public schools.
The government strongly supports charter schools as a way to reorganize public schools, which are failing to educate students. But some education unions are against charter schools. One teachers' union has just released the results of the first national study, which compared the progress of students in both traditional schools and charter schools.
The results of the study show that charter school students performed worse on math and reading tests than the students in traditional public schools.
Some experts say the study is not fair because students in charter schools have more problems than students in traditional schools. Other education experts say the study results would make charter school officials realize that they should help their students make greater progress .o

In an age when technology moves faster than most can keep up with, a small group of people still remain in the time of old-fashioned letter. Frankly speaking, I was once certain that traditional letters could never be replaced by other means of communication.
But a story about online communication changed my mind.
An old man, who suffered a lot from Parkinson’s disease, was not able to talk clearly and could hardly write his name. Living totally alone, he managed to keep in touch with nearly all the members of his family. How did he achieve(实现) this? He clicked out words on his computer keyboard.
I, therefore, managed to get an E-mail box as soon as the chance came. My life changed. E-mail, and all online communication, is something truly different. It has abilities that few other products can match.
E-mail is convenient. It takes less time with its fast speed and 24-hour connection. The slow postal service is no match(匹配之物). If you wouldn’t want to have a face-to-face talk with your manager, you might talk with him through E-mail even if you are in the same office.
Naming all the good things about online communication is not easy. But wait. E-mail can be inconvenient. It can waste time and energy. Just think what may happen when you take a short vacation and return to find your e-mail box filled with 200 unread messages. You could easily spend half a day clearing junk ads.
Then, online communication will keep us staying at our computer while it connects us to distant strangers. Once we throw ourselves into the machine, we may forget the human touches we once held so dear. I’m sure there is and always will be a place for the old-fashioned letter, phone call, and face-to-face meeting… even in the world of modern communication.
As I listen to the sound of the modem(调制解调器), I was excited at stepping out to the outside world but, at the same time, I sensed a loss of control over something valuable in my personal life.

A. His own illness. B. The sound of the modem.
C. A sick old man’s experience. D. The changing of his life.
53. What does the writer think of online communication?
A. It should replace old-fashioned letters completely.
B. It is perfect and always does good to you.
C. It is extremely useful and convenient, but it may be inconvenient or even harmful.
D. It does more harm than good.
54. According to the writer, traditional means of communication will never disappear because ________.
A. they help to keep the friendly relationship between people
B. they are convenient and popular though they are slow
C. most people cannot keep up with the development of technology
D. modern means of communication does too much harm
55. How did the sick old man keep in touch with his family members?
A. By visiting them regularly. B. By writing letters with his pen.
C. By making telephone calls. D. With the help of his computer.
Someone called me up in the middle of the night, but they hung up I could answer the phone.
A.as B.since C.until D.before
Some people think that success is only for those with talent or those who grow up in the right family, and others believe that success mostly comes down to luck. I’m not going to say luck, talent, and circumstances(环境) don’t come into play because they do. Some people are born into the right family while others are born with great intelligence, and that’s just the reality of how life is.
However, to succeed in life, one first needs to set a goal and then gradually make it more practical. And, in addition to that, in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and practicing. To become great at certain things, it’ll require even more time, time that most people won’t put in.
This is a big reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love. If you don’t enjoy what you do, it is going to feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit well before you ever become good at it.
When you see people exhibiting some great skills or having achieved great success, you know that they have put in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It’s sometimes easy to think they got lucky or they were born with some rare talent, but thinking that way does you no good, and there’s a huge chance that you’re wrong anyway.
Whatever you do, if you want to become great at it, you need to work day in and day out, almost to the point of addiction(沉溺), and over a long period of time. If you’re not willing to put in the time and work, don’t expect to receive any rewards. Consistent(经常的), hard work won’t guarantee(保证) you the level of success you may want, but it will guarantee that you will become rally good at whatever it is you put all that work into.
32. Paragraph 1 mainly talks about__________.
A. the reasons for success B. the meaning of success
C. the standards(标准) of success D. the importance of success
33. In paragraph 2, the underlined word that refers to__________.
A. being good at something B. setting a practical goal
C. putting in more time D. succeeding in life
34. Successful people suggest doing what one loves because_____________.
A. work makes one feel pain B. one tends to enjoy his work
C. one gives up his work easily D. it takes a lot of time to succeed
35. What is the main theme (主题)of the passage?
A. Having a goal is vital(重要的) to success.
B. Being good is different from being great.
C. One cannot succeed without time and practice.
D. Luck, talent and family help to achieve success.
I remember when I was young, people often asked me , “What are you going to be when you grow up?”
Well, It 16 being a cowboy or some super hero. Later it was a fireman, a policeman, a lawyer--- As I grew older, my dreams for the future 17 . When , at last, I was in college, I set my 18 on becoming a teacher like my father. 19 I studied and prepared for that. I reached the 20 in the end and I was teaching 21 full-time for much of my adult life.
However, for many people, there is a “thief” that goes around stealing our 22 . Sometimes, the thief will come as a parent, a relative(亲属) , or a friend, but the 23 thief is usually ourselves.
We find 24 just about reaching the top, and a “small” 25 inside says, “ You’ll never make 26 .” “ You can’t possibly do this.” On and on the “small” voice predicts (预示) our 27 . Failure, 28 is one of the most important tools we have may teach us valuable 29 . When we learn these lessons well, we are ready 30 success.
I always tell my children that you are 31 to do anything that your heart desires. Remember the saying, “Nothing is 32 to a willing heart.” There are 33 “overnight” success, but with determination, they will come. Imagine 34 a life you dream of. Then in your heart, believe it will happen to you. Then work, work, work. You’ll get the picture.
So, be true to your dream, and don’t let anyone 35 it from you---especially yourself.

It seems that no one can live a happy life without friendship. While a great number of people expect others to be their friends, they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last long. To have a friend, you must learn to be one. You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous; be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you do not tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always depend on one another to speak and act honestly.
Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You do not have to give your lunch money or your clothes. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know better.
Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with each other. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place so that you can understand the problem better.
No two friendships are exactly alike. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friends, you must practice honesty, generosity and understanding.
