When something goes wrong,it can be very satisfying to say,”Well, it’s so-and-so’s fault.” or “I know I’m late, but it’s not my fault;the car broke down.”It is probably not your fault, but once you form the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to remedy the situation. This is the winner’s key to success.
Winners are great at overcoming problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. Or, you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, if your colleague causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the person. Ask to work with a different person, or don’t rely on this person. You should accept that the person is not reliable and find creative ways to work successfully regardless of how your colleague fails to do his job well.
This is what being a winner is all about—creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens. Winners don’t have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and opportunities to develop their own talents. So, stop focusing on “whose fault it is.” Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stone for success.

Dr. Michael Prager, a leading Botox expert, said that a growing number of women are developing something called “computer face”. He also mentioned that professionals who worked long hours in front of a screen were ending up with saggy jowls(颚骨下垂),“turkey neck” and deep-set wrinkles(皱纹) on their forehead and around their eyes.
The Botox expert said that, of all his clients, office workers were most likely to show premature (过早的)signs of aging. “ If you are one of the unfortunate people who frown(皱眉)while you are concentrating on the screen then, over time, you will inevitably(不可避免地) end up with frown lines.’’ Dr. Prager said. “What is perhaps more surprising is the number of women with saggy jowls because they are sitting in one position for so long. If you spend most of the time looking down then the neck muscles shorten and go saggy, eventually giving you a second neck.”
Dr. Prager, who has a practice near Harley Street in London, said he encourages his clients(客户) to put a mirror next to their computer so they can see if they are frowning at the screen. “When people are stressed or thinking hard about something, then they will often put on a ‘grumpy(脾气暴躁的)face’ without even knowing what they are doing. When my clients put a mirror next to their desk, they are often shocked by the angry, frowning face which stares back at them.”
He said, “The women I am seeing at the moment have only been using computers at work for the last decade or so. But women in their 20s have grown up with them and use them for every single task. I think the problem is going to become much, much worse. In another ten years, they could be looking quite awful.”
Dr. Prager said there were several simple steps which could avoid “computer face” such as regular screen breaks and stretching the neck muscles. And, of course, there was always Botox. He said that , after a couple of sessions of Botox, the habit of “grumpy face” could be broken. 33.According to the passage, which of the following are signs of aging?
A. Saggy jowls and short necks B. Turkey neck and frown lines
C. Deep-set wrinkles and angry faces D. Second neck and stressed muscles
34. Why does Dr. Prager suggest a mirror for his clients?
A. To be aware of their “computer face” B. To see if they have got a second neck
C. To make sure their make-up is perfect D. To find more signs of premature aging

Everyone knows English is one of the most important subjects in middle schools. And we always know learning English is very important, but few students know how to learn English well. 36
I think if we have a right way to learn English, and we work hard, then we must learn English well. But what is the right way? 37 Second, everyone knows remembering new words is important, but how to remember them?I think we can copy new words on pieces of paper, and take them with us. When we are free,we can read them. Third, how to improve our listening and speaking? 38 And we can answer the questions in class;don’t be afraid of making mistakes. I think it’s useful to us. Finally,it’s about reading and writing. 39 And try our best to retell them. We can also keep a diary every day,and spend an hour practicing English.
40 If necessary,we can turn to our classmates and teachers for help instead of giving up. If we don’t study hard,it’s difficult to learn English well.
A. To begin with, you can recite as many words as you can.
B. First,we must be confident enough to learn English and be interested in it.
C. Whenever we meet difficulties in our English study,we shouldn’t lose heart.
D. We can sing English songs, listen to the radio and listen to tapes every day.
E. Then how can we make rapid progress and learn English well?
F. In a word,we will make rapid progress.
G. When we are free,we can read articles in English.
The English language has a lot of words which can be used in many different ways and in many different expressions.
One such example is the word matter. In fact, matter can mean just about anything. It could be one of the most useful words in the English language.
Let’s get to the heart of the matter — a matter of principle (原则).
If someone says that you owe (欠) him $50, but you don’t, a friend might say, “Well, you could pay him the $50. It’s not that much money. Then you won’t have to hear him say it anymore.” But if you do not owe him the money, do not pay him the money. It’s a matter of principle.
There is another way to use the word matter. But be careful with your choice of words.
If you ask someone, “What’s the matter?”, it shows you are worried about the other person. But saying, “What’s the matter with you?” has a completely different meaning. And it usually sounds rude (粗鲁的). In fact, when you say, “What’s the matter with you?”, you are suggesting that the person did something wrong or stupid.
Another expression that could sound rude is to say, “It doesn’t matter to me.” Here, it depends on the context, and how you say it.
Let’s say you tell someone that a friend just got a big raise at work. That person answers
But saying, “Oh, you pick where we eat dinner. It doesn’t matter to me.” does not sound rude. In this situation, “it doesn’t matter” shows you are easy-going (随和的).
No matter how you look at it and what you say, matter is a very useful word. And it’s only a matter of time before you will become an expert on the use of matter.

Last Friday a storm swept through two villages in the New Territories, 56 (destroy) fourteen homes. Seven others were so badly damaged 57 their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows or broken roofs. One person was killed, several were 58 (serious) hurt and taken
to hospital, and a number of other people received smaller hurt. Altogether over two hundred people were homeless after the storm.
A farmer, Mr. Tan, said that the storm began early 59 the morning and lasted for over an hour.
“I 60 (eat) with my wife and children,” he said, “when we heard a loud noise. A few minutes later our house fell down on top of us. We tried our best 61 (climb) out but then I saw that one of my children was 62 (miss). I went back inside and found him, safe 63 very frightened.”
Mrs. Woo Mei Fong said that her husband had just left for work when she 64 (feel)that her house was moving. She ran outside at once with her children.
“There was no time to take anything,” she said, “A few minutes later, the roof came down.”
Soldiers helped to take people out of the flooded area and the welfare department brought 65 (they)food, clothes and shelter.
Do you want to improve your quality of life? Here is some advice.
1.Make it a point to do something brave every day. 36 This might mean talking to someone that you generally wouldn't talk to or starting a project that you feel afraid of. There is no need to plan it in advance.
2.Learn something new. Pick a topic, especially something you know nothing about and learn something about it. 37 It helps to keep it if you have time to make a note of what you learned.
3.Debate something. If you think you know about something, nothing will prove it like arguing(辩论)it with someone who's smarter than you. 38 This is easier said than done, but it can provide you with some of the best possible ideas.
4.Spend time with a child. 39 If you don't, I'm sure you have friends who would be happy to let you borrow theirs for a few minutes. It doesn't matter what age they are, children see the world entirely different. Look at it from their eyes. Enjoy the simple things again.
5.Recognize what makes you happy. 40 Everyone is working towards something, but what makes you happy now? Think of it and try to add more of what made you happy yesterday to today.
A.If you have one, consider yourself lucky.
B.Talking with little children keeps you young.
C.Actually, happiness is a true feeling from our heart!
D.Find a friend you can debate with who has different ideas.
E.Look back to the parts of your day that bring you real happiness.
F.A good source of new information for this can be the newspaper.
G.Step out of your comfort zone and leave the routine(惯例)for a second.
