When I was 13 my only purpose was to become the star on our football team. That meant1Miller King, who was the best2at our school.
Football season started in September and all summer long I worked out.I carried my football everywhere for 3.
Just before September,Miller was struck by a car and lost his right arm.I went to see him after he came back from4.He looked very5,but he didn't cry.
That season,I6all of Miller's records while he7the home games from the bench. We went 10-1 and I was named most valuable player,8I often had crazy dreams in which I was to blame for Miller's9.
One afternoon,I was crossing the field to go home and saw Miller10when he was going over a fence—which wasn't_11to climb if you had both arms.I'm sure I was the last person in the world he wanted to accept12form. But even that challenge he accepted.I13him move slowly ever the fence. When we were finally 14on the other side,he said to me,“You know,I didn't tell you this during the season, but you did15.Thank you for filling in for 16”
His words freed me from my bad17.I thought to myself, how even without an arm he was more of a leader. Damaged but not defeated,he was18ahead of me.I was right to have19him.From that day on,I grew20and a little more real.
Two new satellites of the BeiDou Navigation (导航) Satellite System (BDS) (send) into space on a Long March-3B carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province,China at 2:07 a.m. on November 19,2018. The satellites entered a Medium Earth orbit (safe) more than three hours later and will work with 17 other BDS-3 satellites already in space. They are also the 42nd and 43rd (member) of the BDS satellite family.
China launched these satellites with aim of providing navigation services for countries and regions which participate in the Belt and Road Initiative (倡议) by the end of 2018. "This is a key step for BDS developing a Chinese experimental system to a regional and then a (globe) navigation system," said Yang Changfeng, chief designer of the BeiDou system. The positioning (accurate) of the BDS-3 system has been improved to 2.5 meters to 5 meters, said Yang.
(name) after the Chinese term for the Plough, the BeiDou system has been serving China for 18 years another six BDS-3 satellites will be put into the Medium Earth orbits from 2019 to 2020. The system is expected (provide) first-class services around the globe by the end of 2020.
On Dec. 17, 2019, Andrew noticed a balloon's string was1to a piece of paper. "Dayami," it read on one side, in a child's2. Andrew turned the paper over. It was a Christmas3. He wondered whether he could find the girl who had sent this one.
It would be difficult, 4Andrew had a few clues. About 20 miles to the southwest, just across the5, was the city of Nogales, Mexico.
"Based on the prevailing wind, I was pretty sure that's6it came from," he said.
On December 22, 2019, he decided to send a private Facebook7to a radio station in Nogales.
To his8, the next morning, Andrew9to one message from the radio station: They had10Dayami, an eight-year-old girl, and her family, who indeed lived in Nogales. Would they be11to arrange a get-together at the radio station?
Andrew went with his wife to Walmat. They bought just about everything on Dayami's list12the dollhouse (it was sold out). They also bought a few other toys, as they had learned that Dayami had a younger13, four-year-old Ximena.
Then the Andrew drove for 45 minutes, crossing the border into Nogales, and finally met two very14little girls.
Their parents15to the Andrew that Dayami had been writing a letter a Santa and sending it by16for years, but this was the first time anyone had found the note.
"Their eyes were17open with wonder," Andrew said of the two sisters' reaction. "Like, 'Oh, my gosh, this really did work!'"
"It was a beautiful, beautiful experience," Andrew said. He paused "Quite18for us," he added.
Andrew, 61, has lived in southeastern Bisbee for more than three decades. Ten years ago, he and his wife19their only child, a son. They have no grandchildren.
"We are now have friends for life," Andrew said. "And, for a day, that border fence with its concertina wire20away. "
Research showed 60% of middle school students in America (say) they had been bullied (霸凌) in the past few months. Over 160,000 stayed home from school (avoid) bullying.
It also showed that over 50% of bullying decreased if the school had anti-bully program running. Those programs would help the bullies understand how much they hurt the person is being bullied. It would also be (help) if teachers kept an eye on students at all times. A bullying case usually occurs on the playground at the canteen, but only 25% of bullied students said that teachers noticed and stood up for them.
Another way is to talk to the bully. Tell them how much it hurts when they call you names or (physical) hurt you. You can also tell a trusted adult. It's one of the most commonly known (way) to stop a bully bullying you. Don't just sit on the sidelines and watch bullying. Stand up for the bullying victim and let (they) know they won't be alone.
Bullying is never, nor will it ever be an acceptable matter. Together we can stand up to bullying and make it disappear.
As we all know, questioning can lead to (search) for an answer. If we are in the habit of raising doubts as towhat we are told is true, we can find the correct answer and learn more.
Two years ago, our teacher (offer) us an answer to a difficult math problem in class. Although the answer seemed a little strange, nobody me doubted it. Thinking that his answer might be wrong, I(careful) analyzed the problem and tried to work out in a different way. Half an hour (late), I managed to find the correct answer. When I showed my answer to him, the teacher praised me for my (depend) thinking.
From this experience, I have learned that questioning can serve as bridge that helps us to seek the (true).
The key to losing weight is to understand what really motivates you. Have you ever been excited about losing a few pounds? And to help you keep your weight under control, you need some coping strategies.
Ask questions. When you're researching different dieting products and plans or even talking to a doctor about diets, ask as many questions as you can.Ask questions like: Do I have to purchase special meals or supplements? Does the program include a part to help me maintain my weight loss?
Get real. Don't burden yourself with unrealistic expectations. Remember, large amounts of weight loss are not realistic and are most likely not safe or healthy. Talk with your health care professional to determine a healthy weight goal.
To maintain your weight, you must balance your intake of calories with the energy you burn. Just 30 minutes of fast walking in most days can take about 10 pounds off your weight each year.
Weigh yourself weekly. It's important to track your weight on any diet or weight loss plan, but don't get on the scale every day. Weighing daily won't show you the big picture.
A. Stay balanced.
B. Once a week is fine.
C. Stick with your healthy eating plan.
D. Losing one to two pounds a week is a realistic goal.
E. Being well informed will help you choose the best diet for you.
F. Regular weight check-ins will show you your progress over time.
G. If so, you must find a way to turn that excitement into determination.
I never knew how well Mother could keep a trust until I was going through her things after she died. I discovered something I had 1 forgotten, something that happened to me as a child.
One day, as I went to sleep after my sisters and I had said our prayers, I recalled the events of the day and how 2 I had behaved toward Mother. “I must make things right now,” I thought.
Quietly I 3 out of bed and picked up the pencil and paper from the dresser, and then tiptoed into the hall. The 4 from the living room shone dimly. I knew Mother was downstairs still doing some sewing.
I quickly 5 a note asking Mother to excuse me for being so 6. I didn't want my sisters to know my business so I 7 a postscript, “Please don't let anyone else see this.” Then I 8 moved into my parents' bedroom and put the letter under Mother's pillow.
The next morning when I 9 my bed after breakfast, I 10 found a return note under my pillow. Mother wrote that she loved me and 11 me. This became my way of apologizing whenever I talked 12 or disobeyed. Mother always left a return note, but she never 13 our under-the-pillow messages in front of the family. Even when we were 14, she never mentioned them when we sisters 15 our childhood.
When Mother passed away, I had to go through her personal belongings. In her desk was a bundle of notes tied with a faded ribbon. On top was a message in handwriting which read, “In the event of my death, please 16 these.”
I 17 the package and glanced at the handwriting on the bottom. To my 18, I recognized my childish writing, “PS. Please don't let anyone else see this. Love, Edie.” I gently placed the unopened bundle in the 19 along with other things for the rubbish burner. “Lord,” I prayed, “make me like 20.”
When Christopher Reeve was picked to play the role of a superhero in films in 1977, audiences across the country cheered. Like Superman, he seemed nearly invincible(不可战胜的). He skied, sailed, flew planes, went diving, rode horses, played tennis, and did them all with skill and ease. No one could imagine Christopher Reeve any other way.
All that changed on May 27, 1995, when Christopher was in a three-day horse riding competition in Virginia. A terrible accident happened to him, which resulted in paralysis(瘫痪) from the neck down and not breathing on his own. Doctors gave him only a 50-50 chance of surviving at all.
Gathering his courage, he began to fight for his life. A few days later, Christopher accepted an operation that helped restore(恢复)some feeling to his upper body. Still, doctors emphasized(强调) his limitations. He would never walk again. He would never even breathe again without the aid of a respirator(呼吸器). But Christopher proved the doctors wrong. Later, he was able to breathe on his own.
Soon after that, Christopher felt ready to face the world again. He had a message to spread. He wanted to tell people that no matter what challenges they faced, they shouldn't give up. Wherever he appeared, his speeches met with ovations(欢呼) and many teary faces. Christopher also went back to work: directing films, which proved he had not lost his creative spark.
Christopher had his share of "down" times, but after the tears, he always said, "And now, forward!"
He died at age of 52 on Oct. 10, 2004, after several years of living and working with his severe (严重的)disability. He still was—and always will be—Superman!

The evidence for harmony may not be obvious in some families. But it seems that four out of five young people now get on well with their parents, which is the opposite of the popularly held image of unhappy teenagers locked in their room after endless family quarrels.
An important new study into teenage attitudes surprisingly shows that their family life is more harmonious than it has ever been in the past. "We were surprised by just how positive today's young people seem to be about their families, "said one member of the research team." They're expected to be rebellious(叛逆的)and selfish but actually they have other things on their minds; they want a car and material goods, and they worry about whether school is serving them well. There's more negotiation(商议) and discussion between parents and children, and children expect to take part in the family decision-making process. They don' t want to rock the boat. "
So it seems that this generation of parents is much more likely than parents of 30 years ago to treat their children as friends." My parents are happy to discuss things with me and willing to listen to me," says 17-yea-rold Daniel Lazall. "I always tell them when I'm going out clubbing. As long as they know what I'm doing, they're fine with it." Susan Crome, who is now 21, agrees." Looking back on the last 10 years, there was a lot of what you could call negotiation. For example, as long as I'd done all my homework, I could go out on a Saturday night. But I think my grandparents were a lot stricter with my parents than that."
Maybe this positive view of family life should not be unexpected. It is possible that the idea of teenage rebellion is not rooted in real facts. A researcher comments, "Our surprise that teenagers say they get along well with their parents comes because of a brief period in our social history when teenagers were regarded as different beings. But that idea of rebelling and breaking away from their parents really happened during the 1960s when everyone rebelled. The normal situation throughout history has been a smooth change from helping out with the family business to taking it over."

The largestever chariot pit (战车坑) of relics with carts and horse bones has been discovered in He' nan Province. It may lead to the uncovering of chariot pit groups that could be a key to understanding Chinese civilizations that existed more than 2,000 years ago.
Experts said the relics are dated more than 300 years earlier than the famous warriors (武士) in Shan'xi Province. What excited the experts were two other projects that located two huge pits with similar features.
“It is absolutely a miracle. These relics indicate that there could be a tomb group in this area, which is likely to be important for China's archaeological(考古学的) studies,” said Ma Juncai,a leading relic researcher in the province.
In ancient China, carts, sheep, spoons and so on were buried to ensure that dead people had a happy afterlife The number and quality of the sacrifices indicated the social status of the dead. The custom was carried into the Qin Dynasty. Emperor Qinshihuang's tomb, located near Xi'an, the capital of Shan'xi Province, is accompanied by thousands of wood or clay figures of warriors and horses. The tomb is probably the most wellknown.
The discovered pit measures 10. 4 meters long, 8.4 meters wide and 5 meters long. It holds 20 carts in different sizes. The smallest one is 1.05 meters long and 1.3 meters wide.
Experts think that 40 horses are likely to be found as well. Careful plans need to be made to deal with the demanding uncovering.“The clay is very weak and a small misstep can destroy the whole project. That' s why we need to take every step very carefully to protect these cherished cultural relics, ”Ma said.
