Once there was a very brilliant creative and learned man. He gained much 1 while traveling throughout the world. Unfortunately he lost his legs and left arm in a traffic accident, leaving only a finger and thumb on his right hand. He became so 2 that he was afraid he would spend his life 3 and would no longer be able to use his life in a(n)4 way.
One day, he remembered how he had always loved getting 5. He realized that he still had partial 6 of his right hand and could write with 7. Then, he had an idea. "Why not write to other people who need encouragement?
He 8 where he could find those who could be encouraged if they read his letters. He thought of people in 9. Many of them had hope of regaining their 10. Others would keep feeling depressed and remain put away for the rest of their lives. He decided that he must try to 11 them. So he wrote to a prison ministry about sending letters to the prisoners. The prison minister replied that writing to the prisoners would be 12. However, it would be against prison rules for the prisoners to write back.
13 with the intention, the man began sending 14 messages of God's love, hope, strength, and encouragement. He wrote twice a week, testing his strength and ability to the 15. He poured his heart and soul into his words, 16 his experience, sense of humor, optimism, and faith.
It was difficult to write those letters, especially without hope of any 17. Frequently, he felt discouraged, wondering if anyone 18 read his letters. However, this was his 19chance, so he determined to continue.
At last, he received a letter from the prison officer, which said, "Please write on the best paper you can afford. Your letters are passed from cell (牢房) to cell until they almost fall to 20!"
We all have unique experiences, abilities and talents. We can discover ways to reach others in need of encouragement and strength.
On Tuesday, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of new high-producing crop varieties, including herbicide-tolerant (耐除草剂的) rice that can be directly planted into the soil, cutting the huge expenses on water and farm workers.
In India, the world's biggest rice exporter, the traditional method of rice growing requires farmers to grow seeds in nurseries, and then wait for 20 to 30 days before transplanting the small plants by hand into the fields that are ankle-deep in water.
With the new seed varieties developed by the state-run Indian Agricultural Research Institute, farmers only need to water the field once to moisten (使湿润) the soil before planting the rice. Besides, the traditional method also uses a lot of water to control weeds as herbicides are costly and often do not distinguish between the rice and the unwanted weeds.
Government scientists said the new rice varieties contained a gene that would allow farmers to spray a common, inexpensive herbicide without worrying about any side effects. "Our focus is very high on new seeds that can be adapted to new conditions, especially in changing climates," Modi said.
Water conservation is likely to be the main attraction of the new rice varieties in India, where farmers rely heavily on monsoon (季风) rains. The traditional method uses 3,000 to 5,000 liters of water to produce 1 kg rice. The new varieties could cut water use by at least 50% to 60%, farmers and government officials say. "For farmers like us, the main concern was the management of water, and the new varieties take care of that concern," said Ravindra Kajal, who grows rice on his 9-acre farmland in the northern state of Haryana. India is also the world's biggest rice producer after China.
Enough sleep is important to health. The amount of sleep needed depends on the age of the person and the conditions in which sleep takes place. The young may need more sleep than the old, but usually eight hours are enough for the health of grown-ups. Some can do with less than this amount, but others may need more. Every person knows his own need. It is then a matter of good judgement to satisfy his need. Sleep should always be enough to make one bring back his strength and get ready for a day's work.
Fresh air is necessary to sound sleep. It is not without reason for some people to think that it is practicable to sleep in the open air. When one can keep himself warm, out-of-door sleeping probably gives the body its most complete relaxation (放松).
Ability (能力) to sleep lies largely in habit. The conditions referred to only lead to sleep. Out-of-door exercises, a good habit of regular hours and the avoidance (避免) of late eating and worry, which are largely within the control of any person, are all helpful to sound sleep.
A bath at bedtime, neither hot nor cool but of body temperature may be helpful to sleep. Sleep-producing drug (药) should never be taken except when suggested by a doctor.
China is famous for its bewildering and oftentimes confusing highway interchanges (立体交叉道), but the Qianchun interchange in mountainous province of Guizhou is the only one actually looks like a giant rollercoaster for cars and trucks.
(Construct)on the Qianchun Interchange began in 2009, but the massive road knot was only completed last year. It (consist)of 18 different ramps, in 8 directions, on five different layers, with the highest one (stand)37 meters above ground. Like the nearby Huangjuewan Overpass, in Chongqing, this incredibly complex infrastructure project has been labelled a nightmare for (motorist) trying to find their way around.
People on social media pointed that GPS systems would be confused by the five different layers of road, but officials claims that the directions and exits on the interchange are (clear)marked and that even if you make mistakes, it's always easy to turn around. Still, just looking at this thing leaves me (confuse).I can't imagine having to find my way around it must be like.

These are the kinds of statements used in magazine, newspaper, radio and television ads, promising new shapes and new looks to those who buy the medicine or the device. The promoters of products say they can shape the legs, slim the face, smooth wrinkles,or in some other way to add to beauty or desirability.
Often such products are nothing more than moneymaking things for their promoters. The results they produce are questionable, and some are dangerous to health.
To understand how these products can be legally promoted to the public,it is necessary to understand something of the laws covering their regulation. If the product is a drug,FDA(Food and Drug Administration)can require proof under the Food,Drug, and Cosmetic Act that is safe and effective before it is put on the market. But if the product is a device,FDA has no authority to require premarketing proof of safety or effectiveness. If a product already on the market is a danger to health,FDA can request the producer or distributor to remove it from the market voluntarily,or it can take legal action, including seizure(查封)of the product.
One notable case a few years ago involved an electrical device called the Relaxacisor, which had been sold for reducing the waistline. The Relaxacisor produced electrical shocks to the body through contact pads. FDA took legal action against the distributor to stop the sale of the device on the grounds that it was dangerous to health and life.
Obviously, most of the devices on the market have never been the subject of court proceedings(法律诉讼),and new devices appear continually. Before buying,it is up to the consumer to judge the safety or effectiveness of such items.

A.if it is a drug B.if it is a device
C.if its consumers make complaints D.if its distributors challenge FDA's authority
67.The Relaxacisor is mentioned as________.
A.a product which was designed to produce electricity

When I was about twelve, I headed to a restaurant for dinner with my family. It was winter, and on that particular night, the wind was really blowing. As my mom and I headed towards the restaurant from our car, a girl about my age and her mother came up to us. They asked if we had any spare change. My mom immediately asked where they kept their things. They pointed to an old car in a parking across the street. The girl said there were six of them living in that car, which was the same size as my own family.
My mom said she had something to do after handing the people a few dollars. She sent me inside the restaurant with my dad and my three siblings(兄弟姊妹). But she didn’t come.
Later,I found out she had gone home and practically emptied our cupboards into a few bags. Then, she brought that food over to the car and handed the bags to the family, I wasn’t there when that part happened, but I can only imagine the joy it brought to their faces.
A few days later, when I actually found out about what she had done,I asked her why she helped those people. She told me that they were not lucky. I remember the face of that girl who had asked us for change; she was the same age as me, yet we looked so different.
Here I stood, dressed in almost new clothes, headed to dine in a restaurant and then back home to the bedroom I shared with my younger sister. I remember thinking that the girl didn’t have any food to eat and that she was heading back to a cold car shared with five other people.
After painting this picture in my mind, I understood why my mom had done what she did. I will never forget what she did that night, and how she taught me one of the best lessons I ever learned.

This year marks 45 years since Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon, taking“one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind.”Overall,12 American astronauts have walked on the lunar landscape, the last doing so in 1972.
Enthusiasm for space travel has always increased and decreased. In 2010,President Barack Obama cut funds for a NASA mission that would haveput humans back on the moonby 2020.“I understand that some believe that we should attempt a return to the surface of the Moon first,as previously planned. But I just have to say here:We’ve been there before,”said Obama.NASA Administrator Charles Bolden has alsothrown cold wateron the idea of a return mission to the moon.
But others believe there are benefits to going back to the moon.“It’s the closest future body to us,making it the least challenging to explore all the planets, moons and asteroids(小行星)in our solar system,”wrote Gene R.Grushfrom NASA Johnson Space Center.Richard Vondrak, deputy(代理的)director of the Solar System Exploration Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, said,“Astronauts can accomplish scientific exploration that is beyond the capability of robotic explorers.”
And then there’s the private sector. In the last few years, several private companies have launched rockets of their own, ending the public sector’s monopoly(垄断)on space flight.Meanwhile,Buzz Aldrin, the second person to walk on the moon, believes that there’s amuch better goalfor exploration:Mars.“We’ve walked on the moon,so we understand it better than anything else,”Aldrinsaid.“We’ve got to start thinking of long-term investments.”
