Snowbirds are people who leave their homes when the temperature drops and head to warmer climates. They are mostly retirees (退休人员) and business owners who can afford to take the winter off. While it is snowing in the Northern states, they are enjoying golf, sailing and barbecues in mild temperatures in the South. Then, after winter passes, they return to their homes in the North.
Most snowbirds are away from Canada and the Northern states between the middle of October and the end of November. They pack up and head to Florida, Alabama, Texas, California, and all of the other Southern states. Some may even go as far as Australia or Italy to escape the cold winter weather. There are special communities for snowbirds in many areas. Snowbirds are also offered special discounts in some restaurants, hotels and area attractions. Several states even have special snowbird resorts (度假胜地). There are several online communities and local resources to help snowbirds get set in their seasonal homes.
Some snowbirds own homes both in the South and in the North. Both homes have everything they will need for their stay, minimizing the amount of packing necessary when moving from one to the other. Other snowbirds will rent apartments for their stay outside their home state.
RVs (房车) are a huge part of the snowbird lifestyle. RVs allow snowbirds to move from place to place on a whim (奇想), bringing everything they need with them. They spend nights in RV parks, large parking lots or anywhere else they choose to stay. RVs have beds, bathrooms, and most other modern conveniences at home. Although the space is small, there is more than enough room for a couple to live in.
It was our first Thanksgiving in the new house and I wanted everything to be perfect. But my plan for everyone to do some preparation work had been1by my husband's business trip. Even worse, a project for me that week had2two days of planned vacation. By Wednesday, my task of a table with fresh flowers,3drinking glasses and various homemade desserts had already4, I just hoped that I'd find a clean tablecloth and eight5forks.
In my perfect Thanksgiving, there wouldn't be any orange in my salad because It hadn't made the grocery list. There would be no perfect family photos to record that day because I hadn't got the broken camera6. Someone had brought home the wrong toilet paper, which was the last straw that made me7.
I don't remember what my son asked me as he was doing some cleaning,8I do remember twisting into that mean-and-tight mom-face before making an9. This combination of noise and anger is a universal signal to kids everywhere that they might as well10me. But he didn't.
Instead of disappearing from view, my second-grader turned11the cleaning machine and walked across the room to12me. He never said a word. He just13his arms around me, making me feel14of myself until today.
It turned out a(n)15Thanksgiving. The people I loved gathered around my table and dined just one choice of the pie. My dad used a mismatched fork without16. My daughter drew a picture of us where everyone smiled.
My son took a(n)17to teach me that sometimes we need a hug most when we are18huggable. This is the best gift you can give: One size19all and no one ever minds if you20.
The food, by its very nature, may be harmful for us; it may change while stored; or various chemicals may be added. It may grow in soil contaminated (污染) with lead or arsenic, or it may be watered high in arsenic. Grains, fruit and vegetables are sprayed with chemicals, and these may combine to be far more harmful than one chemical alone. Fish may be caught in areas of sea contaminated with mercury (汞) and arsenic. Meat may contain antibiotic residues.
Furthermore, there are additives we are concerned about. What are added to food to maintain or improve the safety, freshness, taste, or appearance of food are known as food additives. Some food additives have been in use for centuries for preservation—such as salt (in meats such as bacon or dried fish), sugar, or sulphur dioxide (in wine). Additives are also needed to ensure processed food remains safe and in good condition throughout its journey from factories or industrial kitchens, during transportation to warehouses and shops, and finally to consumers.
However, food production is highly competitive. If companies can cut their costs by using additives like chemical flavouring, they are likely to do so. It will increase profits, and consumers won't always realize they are being tricked. As a result, most drinks stating that they are fruit flavoured contain no fruit at all, while most of the rest contain only a small quantity of fruit.
Oh dear! We have to eat, and we just have to find the best food we can, and treat it carefully. Compared with those in other countries, it is fortunate for us to have access to information, and to have choice available in the shops and markets. Consumers have the rights to know clearly about what they have bought.
Besides, food should be prepared by someone who knows how to make the food safe. Eggs need enough cooking to kill off salmonella. Green potatoes should be thrown away, and the end of a mango should be cut off and thrown away.
It's no pleasure these any longer because nature is one thing that really must.
A recent study by Citi Retail Services found that a growing number of people are embracing digital wallets or e-wallets,due in large part to their convenience and ease of use.

Since finishing my studies at Harvard and Oxford, I’ve watched one friend after another land high-ranking, high-paying Wall Street jobs. As executives (高级管理人员) with banks, consulting firms, established law firms, and major corporations, many are now 41 on their way to impressive careers. By society’s 42 , they seem to have it made.
On the surface, these people seem to be very lucky in life. As they left student life behind, many had a 43 drink at their cheap but friendly local bar, shook hands with longtime roommates, and 44 out of small apartments into high buildings. They made reservations at restaurants where the cost of a bottle of wine 45 a college year’s monthly rent. They replaced their beloved old cars with expensive new sports cars.
The thing is, a number of them have 46 that despite their success, they aren’t happy. Some 47 of unfriendly coworkers and feel sad for eight-hour workweeks devoted to tasks they 48 . Some do not respect the companies they work for and talk of feeling tired and 49 . However, instead of devoting themselves to their work, they find themselves working to support the 50 to which they have so quickly become 51 .
People often speak of trying a more satisfying path, and 52 in the end the idea of leaving their jobs to work for something they 53 or finding a position that would give them more time with their families almost always leads them to the same conclusion: it’s 54 . They have loans, bills, a mortgage(抵押贷款)to 55 , retirement to save for. They recognize there’s something 56 in their lives, but it’s 57 to step off the track.
In a society that tends to 58 everything in terms of dollars and cents, we learn from a young age to consider the costs of our 59 in financial terms. But what about the personal and social costs 60 in pursuing money over meaning? These are exactly the kinds of costs many of us tend to ignore — and the very ones we need to consider most.
