This quotation from Winston Churchill tells us that
His attitude suggested that the proposal by the doctor made .
She was proud that both her children .
Every American family has its own traditions on Thanksgiving Day, and mine is no different. Once the national holiday arrives, my mum rises early to make the meal. She puts a turkey in the oven, chops carrots and bakes pies. I'm sorry to say that the men in the family—my dad, my younger brother and myself—rarely pitch in to help. Our job is to wash the mountain of dirty dishes after the meal is over.
Around 2 pm every Thanksgiving Day, family members seat themselves around the kitchen table. Plates of turkey, vegetables, salad, rolls and pies cover it. At this point, we can hardly keep ourselves from drooling (流口水) all over our fancy clothes, but it's not yet time to eat.
First, we must bow our heads, close our eyes and say a prayer of thanks aloud to God for giving us everything we have. Under normal circumstances, I would have no problem making a list of things I am thankful for. I grew up in a loving family. My parents, who aren't wealthy, took out loans to help me pay for the university.
However, the funny thing is, every time I sit down for Thanksgiving dinner and try to say a prayer of thanks, my mind usually goes blank. I think it has something to do with my growling (咕咕叫) stomach and all of that food sitting right there under my nose.
Eventually, though, we all finish our short prayers and dig in. To be sure, the day includes other highlights—visiting with family and watching football. But usually around 6 pm we are all ourselves stuffed like turkeys and thankful to have a nice warm bed to sleep in.
Economic development is necessary in the development of society, butto find and keep a balance between making progress and protecting cultural sites can be a big challenge. Here is an example of big challenges (lead) to great solutions.
In the 1950s, in an effort (deal) with the problems of floods, droughts and lack of electricity, the Egyptian government decided to build the Aswan Dam across the Nile. , the proposal met with people's protests, because that means some temples and cultural relics would (destroy).
In 1959,the government sought help from the United Nations. To decrease damage, a committee was set up and asked for help within the ( globe) community. After many careful
(investigate) and tests, experts tried to preserve the cultural relics taking them apart and moving them to a safe place they would be rebuilt. Besides, fifty countries donated $80 million to the project, which finally proved to be success.
This example shows the importance of working together to turn a problem to a solution. If a problem seems too difficult for a single nation, why not turn to the international community for help?

You might take a car, a bus, or a bike to school. But in Bangladesh, instead of waiting for a school bus to come down their street, many students wait for a school boat to come down the river. That’s right—these students attend school on a boat!
Bangladesh is very close to sea level.______36______ The flooding creates many problems. For the nearly 160 million people living there, the periodic flooding means that they are often unable to access roads, electricity, or telephones.

Larry was on another of his underwater expeditions (探险) but this time, it was different. He decided to take his daughter along with him. She was only ten years old. This would be her first trip with her father on what he had always been famous for.
Larry first began diving when he was his daughter's age. Similarly, his father had taken him along on one of his expeditions. Since then, he had never looked back. Larry started out by renting diving suits from the small diving shop just along the shore. He had hated them. They were either too big or too small. Then, there was the instructor. He gave him a short lesson before allowing him into the water with his father. He had made an exception. Larry would never have been able to go down without at least five hours of theory and another similar number of hours on practical lessons with a guide. Children his age were not even allowed to dive.
After the first expedition, Larry's later diving adventures only got better and better. There was never a dull moment. In his black and blue suit and with an oxygen tank fastened on his back, Larry dived from boats into the middle of the ocean. Dangerous areas did not prevent him from continuing his search. Sometimes, his was limited to a cage underwater but that did not bother him. At least, he was still able to take photographs of the underwater creatures.
Larry's first expedition without his father was in the Cayman Islands. There were numerous diving spots in the area and Larry was determined to visit all of them. Fortunately for him, a man offered to take him around the different spots for free. Larry did not even know what the time Was. how many spots he dived into or how many photographs he had taken. The diving spots afforded such a wide array of fish and sea creatures that Larry saw more than thirty varieties of creatures.
Larry looked at his daughter. She looked as excited as he had been when he was her age. He hoped she would be able to continue the family tradition. Already, she looked like she was much braver than Larry had been then. This was the key to a successful underwater expedition.

As the Labor Day public holiday starts this year, Chinese travel agencies have a new right: to blacklist poorly-behaved tourists in an effort to prevent ill manners. Tourists will be blacklisted for uncivilized behaviors such as acting antisocially on public transport, damaging private or public property, disrespecting local customs, or sabotaging historical exhibits. According to the regulations issued by the China National Tourism Administration (NTA), tour guides and leaders have the right to report on bad behaviors to the government. The new regulations mainly come from the growing concern about the ill manners of Chinese tourists abroad.
In 2015, more than 83 million Chinese people traveled overseas, up 18 percent from the year 2014, according to the China Tourism Academy. But even as they travel farther, the Chinese tourists continue to take bad habits with them. From damaging ancient Egyptian temples to letting children defecate(排便)in the middle of airports, Chinese tourists have earned a bad fame. Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Yang even stressed the need for Chinese tourists to behave better while traveling overseas so as to protect China's image abroad.
Now with the latest regulations, Chinese travelers should have no excuse for rude behavior. According to the guidelines issued by NTA, when using the restroom, Chinese tourists are asked not to forget to flush the toilet after using it.
The guidelines also remind tourists of not fighting with others when they want to take pictures at tourist attractions. When flying, the guidelines advise travelers not to take life vests(救生衣)away from airplanes. Chinese tourists are also encouraged to be respectful of local customs wherever they travel.
Yet, with a very short history of traveling overseas, it is not surprising that many Chinese tourists behave badly on their foreign trips. We should give them time to change.
28. What’s the main purpose of the new regulations?
A. To blacklist poorly-behaved tourists.
B. To guide the Chinese tourists how to travel farther.
C. To introduce the famous places of interest all over the world.
D. To improve the Chinese tourists’ behavior abroad.
29. What does the underlined word “sabotaging” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Damaging. B. Interrupting. C. Recovering. D. Admiring.
30. Which of the following behavior is NOT mentioned in the passage?
A. Damaging ancient Egyptian temples. B. Taking life vests away from airplanes.
C. Taking photos in areas marked“No photos”.
D. Fighting with others when taking pictures.
31. What can be concluded from the passage?
A. Respect local customs whenever we travel abroad.
B. Chinese tourists’ ill manners will be improved.
C. More Chinese will go abroad to travel.
D. More Chinese will be blacklisted in the future.
