A fresh and gentle wind on your face, soft sand under your feet and blue waters as far as the eye can see. Is there any other Olympic sport that is played in such pleasant conditions as beach volleyball?
"I've gone to a lot of beautiful places, and met a lot of beautiful people. That wouldn't have happened if I had been playing another sport," said Randy Stoklos, America's most famous beach volleyball player.
The sport began as a four-a-side game on beaches in Southern California in the 1920s.The first recorded two-man game took place there in 1930, and the first tournament was held in Los Angeles 18 years later. The winners were awarded a case of Pepsi. In the 1950s, women started playing and the sport soon spread to Europe and South America. Yet at that time, beach volleyball was more an entertainment show than a sport, with beauty contests included. The Association of Volleyball Professionals was founded in 1983 and beach volleyball developed into a fast, athletic sport. Its world-wide popularity won beach volleyball a place at the 1996 Olympics in Atalanta, where 24 male teams and 16 female teams took part. At present, the US and Brazil are the best in the world at beach volleyball.
The game came to China in the early 1990s and there have been national tournaments since 1994. It became an official event at the Eighth National Games in 1997.China's You Wenhui and Wang Lu finished ninth in the women's beach volleyball world championships in Brazil.

How to study for 10+ hours a day without getting tired
Get yourself some good coffee and great green tea. Have a cup of coffee and a cup of green tea beside you while you are studying. The coffee has caffeine (咖啡因), which keeps you refreshed (有精神的), and the green tea has theanine (茶氨酸), which keeps you relaxed and happy. It helps refresh you and makes you concentrate on your study.
This is important. You need to have a period of relaxation time at the end of the day. Relaxation time is important because it is the time that your mind consolidates (巩固) all the information you receive during the day.
Tell yourself that you're training for becoming better and better. Keep yourself healthy and happy. Regard this as your purpose. Be sure that you can do this! This is your task. And you have to complete it.
Learn to keep the mind quiet. When you are studying, you will sit down for long periods of time. So make sure you have a good yoga (瑜伽) exercise, which can help quiet your mind.
Every Sunday, write out what you will do over the week. And every day before bed, write out what you will do the next day. Then mark everything as you do it. This will give you happiness because you will feel a sense of achievement every day.
Have you ever been sad because of failure? Please remember, for often, achieving what you set out to do is not the most important thing.
A boy decided to dig a 1 hole behind his house. As he was 2, a couple of old boys stopped by to have a (n) 3. "What are you doing?"asked one of the 4. "I want to dig a hole all the way through the earth!" the boy 5 excitedly. The older boys began to 6, telling him that digging a hole all the way through the earth was 7. Then he said calmly and 9, "Maybe I can't finish digging all the way through the earth, 10 look at what I've found during this period!"
The boy's goal was far too 11, but it did cause him to go on. And that is what a goal is 12 —to cause us to move in the 13 we have chosen, in other words, to cause us to keep working!
Not 14 goal will be fully achieved. Not every job will 15 up with a success. Not every dream will come true. But when you 16 short of your aim, maybe you can say, "Yes, but look at 17 I've found along the way! So many wonderful things have 18 my life because I tried to do something!" 19 is in the digging that life is lived. It is the joy on the 20 that really makes sense.

Dear Jenny,
How nice to hear from you!In your letter you asked me how to keep healthy. I would like to give you some advice.

If you have to attend a party or other social events where a lot of people will be present, do you feel confident that you will make a good impression on others? Or do you feel shy? In any case, you should increase your confidence at social events.
Whenever you are meeting new people at any social event, you should wear proper clothes. Before you attend the event, try to find out how other people will be dressing. If everyone else is wearing business clothes, you should, too. If the event is informal (不拘礼节的) , you should wear informal clothes so that you can fit in.
If you are going to meet people from a certain business or profession (行业), try looking through a few professional magazines or checking cn the Internet ahead of time to get some conversation ideas that are related to their fields of interest. This can prevent you getting tongue-tied at the event.
When you are at the event, don't worry about whether or not other people you are talking with like you. Instead, try your best to find reasons to like them.
When you are making conversation with people, be sure to keep good eye contact, and make your facial expression soft. Nod to show you're listening. Let your face and body relax so that you can make natural gestures.
After the event is over, take a bit of time to think of your social performance and the conversation you had with people. Tell yourself exactly what you did very well at the event. For example, perhaps you made a big effort to really listen to the people you were talking with, or you may have asked several people some good questions that really got them talking. By doing so, your conversation confidence will gradually improve.
If you ask me what my favourite sport is, my answer is swimming. I had started learning how to swim when I was five years old and I have been swimming ever since. There are many reasons why I love swimming but I'll just share a few with you, and maybe I can even encourage you to go for a swim.
The first reason why I love swimming is that it can be extremely relaxing. I love the feeling of floating on the water, feeling almost weightless. I find that whenever I leave the pool I feel totally relaxed.
On the other hand, it can also be a competitive sport. It's amazing pushing yourself to the challenge of beating someone else to the finishing line and it's great fun racing across the pool as fast as you can! Trying little tricks like underwater handstands and flips (空翻) also puts a big smile on my face.
Another reason why I love swimming is that it has more varieties (种类) than other sports. Swimming offers many different strokes (游法), so it doesn't feel like you're stuck doing the same thing over and over again.
In the summer, swimming provides a nice break! There's nothing better than jumping into the water on a hot summer's day. The pool makes you feel better immediately. And I think it adds to the summer holiday feeling. As for me the summer months are when I swim most.
And finally, it's a life skill which everyone should have. Not only is it good for your health, but you never know when you'll need your ability to swim.

I have played soccer and other sports since I was about 5 years old. When I was younger, I thought I would be able to 1 doing all the sports I love into my teen years. Then I 2 that once you get into high school, you have to just 3 a sport as coaches require pretty much training in the off season (比赛淡季). If you are doing three to five days of 4 a week, this leaves little 5 for other activities.
And that one 6 then turns into a year-long commitment (投入).
When I decided to play soccer year-round, we were 7 five days a week, and we had games on the weekends. After about three months of this, I experienced a knee overuse 8. Four other players had knee injuries as well. We had worked so 9 for so long, and then we went directly into club soccer in the off season. There was never a 10!
This injury really pushed me 11, and I stayed at home for eight weeks. Because of this, I12 soccer training.
I also 13 to take part in many activities while playing. 14 widening my social circle and joining some clubs, I am on the field.
But even with these 15, I still keep playing soccer year-round. It is an enjoyable experience that really lifts my spirits.
