Diana got married and had a 5-year-old son named Dusfin. They lived a very happy life and have been expecting a new family member coming. But a disease forced her to experience an emergency operation to deliver their new daughter. At 12 inches long and 1only one pound and nine ounces, she was a premature baby. But the doctor's soft words dropped like 2. "I don't think she's going to make it," he said. "There's only a 10-percent 3 she will pull through the night, and even then, if by some chance she does make it, her future could be a very4 one. "
David and Diana listened as the doctor5 the serious problems the newly-born baby, Anna, would 6 face if she survived. She would never walk; she would never 7; she would probably be blind; and so on.
"No! No!" was all Diana could8. The whole family had long 9 the day they would have a daughter to become a 10 of four. Now, within a matter of hours, that dream was slipping away. But Diana insisted, "I don't care what the doctors say! One day she will be coming home with us!"
Certainly, there was11 a moment when Anna suddenly grew 12. But as the weeks went by, she did 13 gain an ounce of weight here and an ounce of 14 there. At last, when Anna turned two months old, her parents were able to 15 her in their arms for the very first time though 16 continued to gently but coldly 17 that her chances of surviving, much less living any kind of normal life, were next to zero.
Finally, Anna went home from the hospital, just as her mother had 18. Today, five years later, Anna is a little but lively young girl with bright gray eyes19 a strong interest for life. She shows no 20 of any mental or physical injuries. Simply, she is everything a little girl can be.
In today's busy and competitive world, we all lead incredibly stressful lives. When stress becomes overwhelming, it can affect our mood and productivity. The good news is that it is manageable and can be reduced, or even relieved completely.
Enter the world of books. Feeling stressed out? Pick up your favorite book and leave the reality and worries behind. It is the most effective way to relax and overcome stress. Getting lost in a book before bedtime can calm your mind and prepare your body for a good night's sleep.
Connect with people. Another way to successfully beat stress is meeting with friends. Friends and loved ones are important to any healthy lifestyle. If you're feeling a little overwhelmed and just can't seem to shake it off, call your best friend or a member of your family and talk to them.
Walk it off. You can also effectively relieve yourself of stress by simply taking a walk around your neighborhood. There's a whole new world up there that you never seem to notice while rushing to work or talking to someone. Take a moment to admire a new building or a balcony somewhere high up that reminds you of a castle from your favorite movie. Enjoy your time alone and seize every moment of it.
Nothing brings you back on track like a good laughter. It is the most powerful antidote(良方) to stress and it brings joy into your life. Laughing brings people together and drives away all stress-related problems as if they never existed. It is absolutely the best medicine there is, and it will keep you both physically and emotionally healthy.
A. Laugh it off. B. Take some medicine. C. As you walk, remember to look up. D. Reading may also help you sleep better. E. Your hobby could be reading books, or even writing one. F. But most importantly, it can affect our physical and mental health. G. The conversation with a close person will immediately make you feel better. |
—I'd like to,but I ________Shanghai when you return.
At thirteen, I was diagnosed(诊断) with a kind of attention disorder. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.
In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, “Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it.” She glanced down at me through her glasses, “You are no different from your classmates, young man.”
I tried, but I didn't finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.
In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braille. He lived in a time when the blind couldn't get much education. But Louis didn't give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots(点), which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.
Wasn't I the “blind” in my class, being made to learn like the “sighted” students? My thoughts spilled out and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40 minutes. Indeed, I was no different from others; I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problems, why should I ever give up?
I didn't expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day—with an “A” on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words: “See what you can do when you keep trying?”

My dream school starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. They are three lessons in the morning and two in the afternoon. We didn't need to do so much homework. Therefore, we have more time with after-school activities. For example, we can do reading for one and a half hour and play sports for one hour every day.
My dream school look like a big garden. There are all kinds of the flowers and trees around the classroom buildings. We can lie on the grass for a rest, or sat by the lake listening music. The teachers here are kind and helpfully. They are not only our teachers but also our friends.
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at Stanford Hospital, I got to know a little girl Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion(输血) her 5-year-old brother, had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to fight the (ill).
The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for a moment before (take) a deep breath and saying, “Yes, I'll do it it can save Liz.”
the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister. (see) the color returning to her cheeks, he smiled. Then face grew pale and his smile disappeared. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, “Will I start to die right now?”
Being young, the boy had (understand) the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood.
