My husband and I had been married nearly twenty-two years when I acquired Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a disorder where my immune(免疫的)system responded to a virus by producing painful blisters. Although my long-term evaluation was good, I, who had been so fiercely independent, rapidly became absolutely helpless.
My husband, Scott, stepped up to the plate, taking care of kids and cooking dinners. He also became my personal caretaker, applying the medicine to all of my blisters because my hands couldn’t do the job. Needless to say, I had negative emotions, bouncing from embarrassment to shame caused by total reliance on someone other than myself.
I recovered from my illness, but I couldn’t seem to recover from the thought that I loved my husband less than he loved me. This seeming distinction in our love continued to annoy me for the year following my illness.
Then recently Scott and I went on a long bike ride. He’s an experienced cyclist; I’m quite the green hand. At one point with a strong headwind and sharp pain building in my tired legs, I really thought I couldn’t go any further. Seeing me struggle, Scott pulled in front of me and yelled over his shoulder, “Stay close behind me.” As I followed his steps, I discovered that my legs quit burning and I was able to catch my breath. My husband was pulling me along-again.
I pray my husband will always be strong and healthy. But if he should ever become the struggling one, whether on a bike ride or with an illness, I trust Ill be ready to call out to him, Stay close behind me--my turn to pull you along.

There have been big changes in the attitudes of most parents over the last few years. Physical
punishment is banned in schools in most countries, and in many countries. there are moves to ban all physical punishment of children even at home. 36.__ And they often use them to deal with certain misbehavior at certain ages.
37. One issue is that many parents find it very difficult to abandon physical
punishment completely. Parents argue that this was the way they were brought up and that it didn't do any harm to them. They believe that for the child's sake they have the right to discipline the child in any way they consider fit, including using some physical punishments. 38._ There is not much point reasoning with a screaming child in the supermarket.
However there are several reasons why we should stop using physical punishment. One point is that most parents are not trained to deal with misbehaving children. They don't have enough resources or choices to handle the situation. 39.____Another point is that unless people are challenged or forced to change their belief, they may keep following negative habits. An example is seat belt use-now most people wear seat belts without thinking, while years ago the idea of using seat belts are strange to most people .In the same way, banning physical punishment will force people
to change their habits.
In conclusion, parents have to change some of their belief and ideas about how children should be raised. It is possible to avoid the use of physical force. 40.
A. It is not difficult to change some negative habits.
B. It is easy to find reasons to allow some physical punishments.
C. However, many parents still believe that. They have the right to use some physical punishments.
D. There are various ways to educate children.
E. As a result, they immediately react by hitting the child even if there are other solutions to the
problem.
F. And doing so will help us move closer to the dream of removing violence from our society.
G. The other one is that physical punishment can be quick and effective.

Many years ago, I had a dream, which did with being the best I could be, learning the most I could learn, and making it to the top of an organization I worked for. Well, I lived my dream day in and day out, took risks, moved away from my family to continue my quest, set about studying at night to earn further, and after many years, I accomplished what started out as a dream.
The quote “Follow your dreams, transform your life.” Is still with me nowadays. And, it is even more valid today. You see, I left that company several years ago to follow a new dream. The new dream meant that I had to start over again with a lot to learn and many challenges. That dream is still alive today despite the difficulties and challenges. But, through all those challenges, it never occurred to me to quit; just the opposite.
Just having a dream doesn’t mean the road is going to be easy. In fact, to follow one’s dream can often mean enduring more than you ever have before, moving completely out of your comfort zone of security and spending hours upon hours of hard work without knowing that the path is paved or full of pot holes.
So, why follow your dream if the road is bumpy(崎岖不平的)? Just because it is a dream that you own and does not belong to anyone else, nor is it living a life that is controlled by other people. It is a dream that makes you excited to get up in the morning knowing that you have full control of your own life and what you do or do not do is your choice.
25. In the author’s view, following your dream means__________.
A. changing your way of life
B. ignoring challenges in your life
C. sharing a life pattern with others
D. following a routine and doing your best
26. Paragraph 3 is mainly about_________.
A. how to set your dream
B. how to specify your dream
C. what chasing your dream actually means
D. what you will achieve while chasing your dream
27. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. It is proper for people to live a wealthy life.
B. It is exciting to have full control of one’s own life.
C. It is common for people to have various dreams.
D. It is natural to follow one’s dream despite hardship.
28. The author’s purpose of writing the text is to show_________.
A. the form of our dream B. the hardships in our life
C. the need to follow our dream D. the disadvantages of following our dream

Wall street is famous street in New York City. It got its name from the wooden wall that was used to stand what the street now runs. The wall was built in 1600s. Have your parents ever inspected your room to see if you cleaned it properly? Imagine having your entire houses, garage, and yard inspected at any time -- with no warning. Inspections were a regular part of lighthouse (灯塔) living, and a keeper's reputation depended on results. A few times each year, an inspector arrived to look over the entire light station. The inspections were supposed to be a surprise, but keeper sometimes had advance notice.
Once lighthouses had telephones, keepers would call each other to warn that the inspector was approaching. After boats began flying special flags noting the inspector aboard, the keeper's family made it a game to see who could notice the boat first. As soon as someone spotted the boat, everyone would do last-minute tidying and change into fancy clothes. The keeper then scurried to put on his dress uniform and cap. Children of keepers remember inspectors wearing white gloves to run their fingers over door frames and windowsills looking for dust.
Despite the serious nature of inspections, they resulted in some funny moments. Betty Byrnes remembered when her mother did not have time to wash all the dishes before an inspection. At the time, people did not have dishwashers in their homes. In an effort to clean up quickly, Mrs. Byrnes tossed all the dishes into a big bread pan, covered them with a cloth and stuck them in the oven. If the inspector opened the oven door, it would look like bread was baking. He never did.
One day, Glenn Furst's mother put oil on the kitchen floor just before the inspector entered their house. Like floor wax, the oil made the floors shiny and helped protect the wood. This time, though, she used a little too much oil. When the inspector extended his hand to greet Glenn's mother, he slipped on the freshly oiled surface. "He came across that floor waving his arms like a young bird attempting its first flight," Glenn late wrote. After he steadied himself, he shook Glenn's mother's hand, and the inspection continued as though nothing had happened.
9. What does Paragraph I tell us about the inspection at the light station?

B. It was often announced in advance.
C. It was important for the keeper's fame.
D. It was focused on the garage and yard.

A. one of the members saw the boat
B. a warning call reached the lighthouse
C. the keeper put on the dress uniform and cap
D. the inspector flew special flags in the distance
11. Mrs. Byrnes put the dishes in the oven because this would ______.
A. result in some fun
B. speed up washing them
C. make her home look tidy
D. be a demand from the inspector
12. The inspector waved his arms ______.
A. to try his best to keep steady
B. to show his satisfaction with the floor
C. to extend a warm greeting to Glenn's mother
D. to express his intention to continue the inspection

Some phones had become part of our daily life. No matter who we are, we can see people busy play with their smart phones. Smart phones benefit them. They help us escape the pressure of life and get informations. However, if we spend too much time on them, we won’t have time to contact face to our friends and family. And our life, study and work will be hurt. In my view, we should limit to our using smart phones except for a purpose of learning. Meanwhile, it’s absolute necessary for us to take part in more outdoor activities.

Why does eating raw foods or whole foods become more and more popular nowadays? One reason is that eating these types of food reduces the risk of acid accumulation in your body.
Raw and whole foods are usually digested more efficiently than cooked and refined foods. When we cook foods, we destroy the natural enzymes(酶)that are part of the food in its raw form. These enzymes were intended by nature to help us digest the food. When we consume food without these natural enzymes, our bodies either digest the food improperly or allow too many nutrients to be absorbed into the bloodstream. In both instances, the result is obesity. When too many nutrients are absorbed at once, the body grows fat. Improperly digested food moves slowly through the digestive system, where it becomes increasingly acidic(酸性的). To protect its vital organs from this acidic waste, the body changes the acid into fat and stores it safely away from the organs.
Processed foods contain chemical elements, which might confuse the appetite mechanism(机制) that tells us when we’ve had enough to eat; as a result, people often overeat . Processed foods also upset the digestive cycle. The body will either identify these foods as allergies and then store them safely away from the organs as fat, or the remains of undigested food will become acidic and enter the bloodstream as acid waste, which will stick to the blood vessel walls and block the passage of vital oxygen and nutrients heading for the body’s cells. The body’s metabolism(新陈代谢) becomes inactive, and then result is weight gain and obesity.
The accumulation of acid in the digestive system makes digestion increasingly inefficient. When that happens, even healthy foods can become acidic and the food allergies will become more common.
To stop this, people need to consume food that will neutralize the acid already accumulated in body. Eating the right types of raw and whole foods can help. it’s also important to restore your enzyme balance. You need to identify and avoid the foods that cause acid accumulation and consume the foods that increase enzyme production. If you truly want to change and help your body heal itself , you need to take an active approach.47. What is the main purpose of this passage?

49. What is likely to be talked about following the last paragraph?
A. Active approaches to avoid acid. B. Suitable types of raw and whole foods.
C. Correct ways to cook raw foods. D. Different causes of acid accumulation.
50. What can we learn from the text?
A. Processed foods are good for our appetite mechanism.
