We won’t have to worry about the sun’s running out of energy for another several billion years or soBesides begin an endless source of energy, the use of the sun has other advantages as wellThe sun doesn’t offer as many problems as other energy sourcesFor example, fossil fuel plants add to already high pollution levelsWith sola energy, we will still need sources of energy, but we won’t need as muchThat means we can cut down on our pollution problems.

With all these good points, why don’t we use more solar power? There are many reasons for thisThe biggest reason is moneyUntil now, it was just not practical for a home owner to put in a solar unitThere were cheaper sources of energyAll this is changing nowSolar costs are starting to equal the costs of oil and electricityExperts say that gas, oil and electricity prices will continue to riseThe demand for electricity is increasing rapidlyBut new power plants will use more gas, oil or coalAlready in some places the supply of electricity is being rationedSolar energy is now in its infancyIt could soon grow to become a major part of our nation’s energy supply.

New Yorkers and visitors to the Big Apple will get to ring in the Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year in the U.S., in style with a fireworks display on the Hudson River set to music written by Academy Award-winning composer Tan Dun.

The display is part of the second annual “Happy Chinese New Year: Fantastic Art China” festival held in New York on February 5-10, 2016. The China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), the U.S.-China Cultural Institute and the Cultural Associate of the Committee of 100 announced this year’s events on November 18 at a press conference at the Lincoln Center.

This year’s theme focuses on exploring the complicated relationship between sound and image, said Professor Yu Ding from CAFA, who is also president of Fantastic Art China and in charge of the festival’s design. Lunar New Year, which celebrates the “Year of the Monkey” in 2016, is an opportunity to bring China’s modern art to mainstream America, and the festival serves as  an innovative approach to establishing cultural exchange between China and New York City, Yu said.

UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Tan Dun’s music is a new edition that will be featured  at several venues, including a major art exhibition at the Javits Center, events at the Lincoln Center and the fireworks display on the Hudson, which will take place on the evening of February 6. Five barges (游艇) on the river will launch the fireworks designed by CAFA that will tell a story about celebration and conservation.

“We Chinese are fond of nature, so the best way to celebrate the Lunar New Year is to salute with the sounds of nature, such as sounds of water, stone and bamboo,” said Tan Dun at the press conference, “And it will be fun to use the music of water during the firework display.”

In addition to the fireworks, a special lighting show at the Empire State Building will illuminate New York Ci ty during the holiday.

Chinese New Year is being recognized as a public school holiday for the first time in New York. Children from the National Dance Institute, which represents 75 schools, will perform traditional Chinese dances at the Lincoln Center and the Javits Center.    Although Paris is often considered the city of romance, close to a million adults who call it home are single. Many single people say that France’s capital is one of the most difficult places to meet people. The complaints(抱怨) of this lonely group have inspired a new phenomenon known as “supermarket dating.” At Galerie Lafayette Gourmet, singles can shop for more than just the items on their grocery list. They can look for someone who has blue eyes, brown hair, and is 1.8 meters tall, or whatever may be on their romantic shopping list.
At this Paris location, single people of all ages can schedule their shopping for Thursday nights between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. When they walk through the door, they pick up a purple basket to advise that they are looking for love. They try to arrive early because the baskets disappear quickly, and then they have to wait in line for their turn to wander the store aisles(
过道) .
With purple baskets in hand, shoppers can consider their romantic options while they pick out their groceries. When they are ready to pay, they can go to the checkout line for singles who want to chat.
Most of the people who look for love in the supermarket are skeptical of Internet dating. They know that it is easy to embellish(
美化) one’s appearance or to lie about one’s age over the Internet. The supermarket, on the other hand, is considered a safe and casual environment in which to meet a potential match. In addition, what one finds in another’s grocery basket can say a thing or two about that person’s character or intentions. Buying pet food can be a man’s way of showing a potential match that he has a sensitive side. Women who fill their baskets with low-fat food show their healthy style of living. These days it’s possible to find much more than food at a grocery store.
28. What do many single people in Pairs complain about?

B. The idea of supermarket dating.
C. The items on their grocery list.
D. The inconvenience in shopping.

29. Which of the following can be inferred but is not clearly stated in the second paragraph?

D. The dating supermarket has very good business.

30. How do love shoppers meet one another?

A. They schedule their meeting in advance.
B. They go through a special checkout.
C. They pick out their groceries with great care.
D. They dial the phone numbers on their shopping items.

31.Why do the people prefer the supermarket dating to Internet dating?

A. The supermarket dating is more convenient.
B. The supermarket dating is more casual.
C. The supermarket dating can be trusted more.
D. The supermarket dating is less expensive.

Sitting under the national flag and separated from the media by a transparent glass wall, 50-year-old Jing Haipeng and 37-year-old Chen Dong appeared calm as they prepare to be part of, what is scheduled to be, China’s longest-ever manned spaceflight mission.

He has been on the Shenzhou-7 mission in 2008 and the Shenzhou-9 mission in 2012. The mission’s commander was also part of docking missions(太空对接任务)on both his previous space flights, giving him the experience needed to help dock Shenzhou-11 with Tiangong-2. Jing Haipeng said, “With The past 18 years of intensive professional astronaut training, together with the two previous experiences I’ve had flying in space, I’m very confident and determined that this mission is going to be a great success. He is so dedicated, and demands only the best from me and the others that he works with. Because of his experience, I am very lucky to be paired with him on this mission into space.” After being put into orbit, Jing Haipeng and Chen Dong were going to conduct a series of experiments, including testing the latest in China’s advanced life support systems, as well as scientific research.

Wu Ping deputy director of Chena’s Manned Space Program, explains the role of the two astronauts in space. “During their mission, the two are essentially back-ups to one-another. They are both capable of piloting the spacecraft, complex management, manual docking as well as handling any emergency situations or malfunctions(故障). While in orbit, they are going to complete a number of maneuvers(演习)with Shenzhou-11, as well as orbital experiments, demonstrations and tests on human health in space.”

With eight bloodshot eyes fixed on a flying object, the pains of a two-year project were about to bear fruit.

It was Wang Hongyi’s first test flight of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) (无人机)designed and assembled(组装)with his teammates from the Aero-Sport Club (航模队)at Shanghai Jiaotong University.

Wang is a senior mechanical engineering and automation major. He has been a plane model fan since childhood. As a freshman, he spent two nights building a model aircraft and took it to the sports field just for fun. Wu Junqi, the coach of Shanghai Jiaotong University’s Aero-Sport Club, spotted Wang and told him his model was outdated.

“I was a little angry, so he took me to the lab,” says Wang. He was immediately drawn to the modern equipment and decided to join the club. As a technology fan, Wang spends most of his spare time in the lab. “He loves what he’s doing, so he can stand the loneliness of doing research that others seldom have the persistence to carry out,” says coach Wu.

When Wang and his teammates were building UAV, they lived together in the lab. “We tried to spend as much time together as possible because there were thousands of problems that needed to be solved,” Wang says. They didn’t even have time to celebrate when the first test flight of the UAV went well. “We needed to list the problems that occurred during the flight and analyze them to find solutions,” he says.

“Our UAV isn’t finished yet, but there are many design projects and people with similar interests waiting for me,” Wang says. “The UAV is just the beginning, not the end of my aircraft journey.”
