Have you ever picked a job based on the fact that you were good at it but later found it made you feel very uncomfortable over time? When you select your career, there’s a lot more to it than assessing your skills and matching them with a particular position. If you ignore your personality, it will hurt you long term regardless of your skills or the job’s pay. There are several areas of your personality that you need to consider to help you find a good job. Here are a few of those main areas:
1) Do you prefer working alone or with other people?
There are isolating(令人孤立的)jobs that will drive an outgoing person crazy and also interactive jobs that will make a shy person uneasy. Most people are not extremes in either direction but do have a tendency that they prefer. There are also positions that are sometimes a combination of the two, which may be best for someone in the middle who adapts easily to either situation.
2) How do you handle change?
Most jobs these days have some elements of change to them, but some are more than others. If you need stability in your life, you may need a job where the changes don’t happen so often. Other people would be bored of the same daily routine.
3) Do you enjoy working with computers?
I do see this as a kind of personality characteristic. There are people who are happy to spend more than 40 hours a week on a computer, while there are others who need a lot of human interaction throughout the day. Again these are extremes and you’ll likely find a lot of positions somewhere in the middle as well.
4)What type of work environment do you enjoy?
This can range from being in a large building with a lot of people you won’t know immediately to a smaller setting where you’ll get to know almost all the people there fairly quickly.
5) How do you like to get paid?
Some people are motivated by the pay they get, while others feel too stressed to be like that. The variety of payment designs in the sales industry is a typical example for this.
Anyway, these are great starting points for you. I’ve seen it over and over again with people that they make more money over time when they do something they love. It may take you a little longer, but making a move to do what you have a passion for can change the course of your life for the better.

Last Saturday, my 8-year-old son, Chase, and I were shopping in a supermarket. Chase was busy weighing each new bag of vegetables I collected. I handed him a bag of tomatoes and he walked over to the scale and waited patiently in line. Suddenly, an old man walked up behind Chase, and stepped before him, bumping Chase out of the way. Chase looked shocked and scared. Seeing this, I left my shopping cart and walked over to Chase, saying loudly, “Are you all right, honey? I saw what that man did to you. That was very, very wrong.”
When the man finished weighing his bag, he turned around too quickly and all of his onions spilled out of his bag and onto the dirty floor. The three of us froze for a moment. Then I got down on my hands and knees and started collecting onions while the old man accepted them from my hands and put them back into his bag. After Chase and I retrieved all the onions, the old man walked away. We didn’t discuss the event until we got back in the car.
On the way home, Chase said through tears, “Mommy, I’ve a frustrating day. That man cut right in front of me. And we had to help him pick up his onions! Why did we do that? That didn’t make any sense.”
I took a deep breath and said, “Chase, that man seemed to have a very bad mood today. We should forgive him. I was also angry with that man for treating you rudely. I really wanted to kick him. But doing that doesn’t make any sense. If we hadn’t helped that old man, we might have felt good for a moment, but then I bet we would have felt really sorry for a long time. You and I have a lot of love to share. Maybe that man doesn’t have much. People who behave badly still need love.”
A cheerful smile appeared on Chase’s face. It was a smile of a promise kept. It was the best smile I have ever seen.It was really a good moment which may have been my best mommy moment ever.

B. The old man was very sorry for what he had done to Chase.

When Western parents are expected a baby, they start to think long and hardly about what they will name their child. The child will have to live with a name for their whole life after all.
Some parents seem focus on finding a name that is distinctive, a name that everybody likes it and nobody else uses. Also, sometimes it goes horribly wrong. One musician named his child Audio Science, while other couple named their kid Pirate. Recently, some parents in the US and Europe have gone as far as pay someone to come up with a name for them. Some companies charge a couple hundred dollars, and one Swiss company charges about $ 30,000 think of a unique name that has never been used before.

There was once a man who had a donkey and a beautiful lapdog. The donkey was kept in a barn and had plenty of corn and hay to eat. Indeed, he was just as lucky as any donkey could be. The little dog stayed in the house and was well liked by the master. He was always playing and jumping about in an funny way and was allowed to lie in his master’s lap(膝盖). Meanwhile, the donkey had plenty to do. He pulled wood all day long and had to take his turn at the mill during the night. He often complained about his problems, and it bored him to see the lapdog living such an easy life, while he had to work so hard. Finally he thought to himself that if he acted the same way as the lapdog to his master, he would be treated the same way. So, one day he ran out of his barn and went fast into the house, where he began to kick about in a very strange way. Then, swaying his tail and imitating the funny behavior of the pet lapdog, he knocked over the table where his master was eating. He also broke all the dishes into very small pieces and did not stop until he jumped onto his master, trying to lick and paw him with his rough feet.
Seeing their master in great danger, the servants thought it was time to help him. They beat the foolish donkey with sticks until he could not get up again. As he was about to die, he cried, “Why couldn’t I have remained satisfied the way I was? Why did I try to imitate a creature who was nothing but a lazy puppy after all?”

Number sense is not the ability to count. It is the ability to recognize a 14 in number. Human beings are born with this ability. 15 , experiments show that many animals are, too. For example, many birds have good number sense. If a nest has four eggs and you remove one, the bird will not 16 . However, if you remove two, the bird 17 leaves. This means that the bird knows the 18 between two and three.
Another interesting experiment showed a bird's 19 number sense. A man was trying to take a photo of a crow(乌鸦)that had a nest in a tower, but the crow always left when she saw him coming. The bird did not 20 until the man left the tower. The man had an 21 . He took another man with him to the tower. One man left and the other stayed, but they did not 22 the bird. The crow stayed away until the second man left, too. The experiment was 23 with three men and then with four men. But the crow did not return to the nest until all the men were 24 . It was not until five men went into the tower and only four left that they were 25 able to fool the crow.
How good is a human's number sense? It's not very good. For example, babies about fourteen months old almost always notice if something is taken away from a 26 group. But when the number goes beyond three or four, the children are 27 fooled.
It seems that number sense is something we have in common with many animals in this world, and that our human 28 is not much better than a crow's.

The best way to help your children do well in school is to show them that you care about their education and lives. Here’s some helpful advice.
You are your children’s first and most important teacher.
You know your children better than anyone else, and you probably care about them more than anything. Get involved in their education at every step — from homework help to parent-teacher conferences.
A close relationship with your children can keep them from having problems in school.
Children need help to make decisions about school, relationships, work, and so on. This can be easier if your children can talk to you about their problems.
Be a good listener.
Young children want to talk about their school days, so take time to talk and listen every day. As children get older, especially during high school, they might not want to talk to their parents. They usually think their friends may understand them better. At this time, parents should be patient and think of ways to get involved in your children’s lives. You need to be a cheerleader (啦啦队队长) for your children. Tell your children you’re proud if they deserve it.
Offer your personal support.
Help your children practice multiplication tables (乘法表) or have them read you one of their essays. If your children are having trouble in school, offer to help them get through it.
In a word, having an honest and positive relationship with your children will help them succeed in school. Even if you don’t have the best experience in school, you can still help your children be successful. Besides, parents should know some effective ways of creating a great homework space.
5. Why are children unwilling to talk to their parents when they grow older?
A. Because their parents are too busy to listen.
B. Because they don’t think their parents can understand them well.
C. Because their parents don’t want to get involved in their lives.
D. Because they are too shy to speak out their secrets.
6. What does the underlined sentence mean?
A. Parents should never hurt their children’s feelings.
B. Parents should always be on their children’s side no matter what happens.
C. Parents should never point out their children’s mistakes.
D. Parents should encourage children when they make a real effort.
7. What would be talked about in the following paragraph?
A. How to be your children’s best teacher.
B. How to improve yourself to give your children more help.
C. How to make a good homework space for your children.
D. How to communicate with your children.
