高二英语下学期下册试题

It has been around for centuries, but up until very recently, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) wasn’t fully accepted abroad. Proof of this can be found in The Treatment (《刮痧》), a 2001 film that tells the story of a Chinese man in the US who’s accused of abuse after he uses guasha, a form of TCM treatment, to cure his grandson’s disease.

During the last 10 years or so, however, TCM has been getting increasingly popular all over the world. A report released by the State Council Information Office on Dec. 6 says this style of health care, which includes different forms like herbal medicine and exercise, has spread to 183 countries and regions.

“We have set up 10 TCM centers outside China, and all of them are popular among locals,” Wang Guoqiang, head of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said at a news conference on Dec 6. “Governments of 86 countries and regions have signed agreements with the Chinese government on TCM corporation.”

One of the reasons behind the growing popularity of TCM is the increase of scientific research into it. And after Tu Youyou-the Chinese scientist who discovered the anti-malaria (抗疟疾) drug qinghaosu (青蒿素)-won the Nobel Prize last year, TCM became even more famous internationally.

However, all these achievements in TCM don’t mean that it’s problem-free. Over the years, TCM has faced challenges in being able to prove that it has certain effects.

Some researchers have suggested TCM should be more exact and work together with Western medicine.

“Bringing together with Western medicine and TCM, rather than being in competition, is where the potential for great effects is,” said Bernhard Schwartlander, the China representative of the World Health Organization.

The term “Industry 4.0” refers to the fourth industrial revolution. The first industrial revolution was the production of goods with machines like steam engines, which was followed by the second industrial revolution that introduced mass production with the help of electric power, followed by the digital revolution —the use of electronics and IT in production.

Industry 4.0 is a high-tech project, which promotes the computerization of manufacturing (制造业). The basic principle of Industry 4.0 is that by connecting machines, work pieces and systems, we are creating intelligent networks along the entire value chain that can control each other automatically. The goal is the Smart Factory, which adapts well and uses resources efficiently as well as linking customers and business partners with great intelligence. Technological bases are the Internet systems and advanced factories. Experts believe that Industry 4.0 could be a reality in about 10 to 20 years.

So, what effects does this change have on the classic manufacturing? According to an expert, “it is highly likely that the world of production will become more and more networked until everything is connected with everything else.” Networks and processes have so far been limited to one factory. But in the time of Industry 4.0, the boundaries (界限) of individual factories will most likely no longer exist. Instead, they will be lifted in order to inter-connect multiple factories or even geographical regions.

How is an Industry 4.0 factory different from a today’s factory? In current industry environment, providing high-end quality service or product with the least cost is the key to success. Factories are trying to increase their profit as much as possible. In the time of Industry 4.0, various data sources are available to provide worthwhile information about different aspects of the factory. Using data for understanding the current condition and checking faults and failures is a natural thing. The sharing of information around the clock and around the globe will enable these connected systems to manage themselves independently, work more efficiently and identify any errors quickly.

The good news is that Europe is much better prepared for the Industry 4.0 revolution than one might think. Europe will position itself as a pioneer in the fourth revolution. Industry 4.0 is a project in the high-tech strategy of the German government. Meanwhile, in the U.S., some companies are also working hard on it. But the success of industry depends on whether business and politics can work together. It’s not only politics that needs to help open the door for Industry 4.0. Every company is advised to seize the new digital opportunities.

42. What marks the coming of Industry 4.0?

A. Steam engines.    B. Mass production.

C. Intelligent networks.    D. Use of electronics.

43. Industry 4.0 will probably result in ________ in the world of manufacturing.

A. everything connected with everything else

B. production limited to an individual factory

C. networks and processes no longer existing

D. classic factories stopping their competition

    Millions of American high school seniors drink alcohol(酒精)at least once a week. Alcohol is the most common "drug" and has special risks for this age group. Studies show that about 50% of children with alcoholic parents will become alcoholics themselves.
     Teenagers drink for many reasons. Some grow up seeing their parents or other adults drinking. They also see movies, television or magazine ads where a sports star enjoys some type of alcohol. There is often pressure from friends or classmates to drink. A teenager may drink to fit in with friends, or to appear more popular or confident. A teenager having worries, depression, or confusion, may use alcohol to deal with these feelings. Other situations that might cause a teenager to develop a drinking problem are:

●the divorce (离婚)of his or her parents;

●other family members with drinking problems;

●the death of  his or her family members or other close people.
     There are some WARNING SIGNS for adults to pay attention to. The following signs may be visible if a teenager has a serious drinking problem:

●keeping away from family or friends;

●not going to school, or falling grades;

●losing interest in activities or hobbies;

●getting into fights or often  arguing with parents.
     It may be hard to accept the fact that your child is out of control with alcohol. Sometimes it helps if you share your concerns with your colleagues, the school counselor(顾问), or your healthcare provider. Other helpers can be found at hospitals, mental health centers, or alcoholism treatment centers.

  A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night’s sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off—if it is milked from a cow at night.

    Researchers have discovered that “night milk” contains more melatonin(褪黑激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety.

   The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night.

   Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.

   Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer.

   While the effect of cow milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall asleep at night.

   Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of the calcium content, which helps people to relax.

   Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night.

Recently, I notice something unpleasant in our school. Some students littered free while cleaners took pains to sweep the floor. To fight so bad behaviors, our class held a meeting theme “To care about our environment, start from ourselves”. We discussed heatedly after we agreed on one solution. From the next day on, we were divided into group to collect rubbish on every morning before class. Our deed got a thumb up from our teacher. He said we served as example for the students to help keep the school clean. We also felt meaningful to shoulder our responsibility for the environment around them.

The person who knows how to write a personal letter has a very powerful tool. A letter can set up a warm conversation   41     two people far apart (远离的); it can keep a   42   friendwith

very little effort.

    A few years ago my older brother and I were not getting along. Our meetings were not   43  pleasure; our conversation was filled with arguments and quarrels; and every effort to clear the air seemed to only deepen our misunderstanding. Then he moved to a small island and we lost touch. One day he wrote me a letter. He described his island and    44   ( it) people, told me what he was doing, said how he felt, and encouraged me to   45   (write). Rereading the letter, I    46    (drive) by its humor and clever expressions. I had never known he could write so well. And with that one letter we became friends again.

     It might never have  47    (occur) to my brother to write me if he had not been in a place

    48     there were no phones. Writing turned out to be the best way for us to get back in touch. Because we live in    49   age of easy communication, people often forget that they don't always have to phone    50    email.

If your parents were to surprise you with a present on your birthday, which one would you prefer, a trip to the amusement park or a new pair of shoes?

According to Science Daily, about one-third of the people are likely to prefer shoes to a fun trip. These people are called "materialists", namely, those who value material goods more than experiences. But which of the two choices makes people happier?

Back in 2009, Ryan Howell, a professor at San Francisco State University, found that in the long run, experiences make people happier than possessions. This is because the joy of receiving a new object fades over time as you get used to seeing it every day. Experiences, on the other hand, can continue to bring you joy in the future through happy memories.

But materialists should at least be happy when they first buy something, shouldn't they?

To figure it out, Howell did another study. He classified a group of adults according to their personality types, ranging from less materialistic to more materialistic. Each person was asked different questions to see how they felt about spending money on material goods versus spending money on experiences.

As expected, the more materialistic participants got less happiness from purchases than the less materialistic, because such purchases didn't fit with their personalities and values. But to Howell's surprise, he found that materialists weren't any happier even if they spent money on material items.

This is because materialists worry that others may criticize or look clown on their choices. "There are certain value systems that are rejected by society," said Howell. "When we find out someone is materialistic, we think less of them, and that drives their happiness down.”

Another reason is that materialistic people always focus on what they don't have instead of what they have now. This makes them feel less satisfied and grateful.

If you happen to be a materialistic person, there's something you can try. "If materialists make more accurate purchases, rather than trying to impress others, they will be happier, “Howell said.

You should also remember what an ancient Greek philosopher once said, “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."
