We had it all

We thought we had it all-a beautiful house, three healthy children and one more on the way, two cars—and we loved it. We spent money like it was going out of style. Then the market turned and my husband’s job as a bigwig(大人物)at a construction company was gong. The company was closing down for ever.

Harvard University in the United States has been ranked as the university with the best "reputation" in the world.

The Times Higher Education magazine has listed 200 top universities all over the world based on how they are regarded by a group of international college teachers. That is to say the list measures how universities are regarded, rather than how they actually performed.

A subjective, word-of-mouth（口碑的）quality such as "reputation" has genuine economic value for universities, said Simon Marginson, professor of higher education at the University of Melbourne in Australia.

       "Reputation is not just an impression, though it might be not as reliable as performance by objective indicators（客观指标）," said Prof Marginson.

       Based on the views of 13,000 college teachers around the world, it confirms the power of the big US universities, which dominate this list. To many web-building spiders, most of whom are nearly blind, the web is their essential window on the world: their means of communicating, capturing prey (猎物), meeting mates and protecting themselves. A web-building spider without its web is like a man cast away on an island of solid rock, totally out of touch and destined to starve to death.

       So important is the web to an orb-web spider’s survival that the animal will continue to construct new webs daily even if it is being starved. We have a problem，and the strange thing is that we not only know about it, but also celebrate it. Just today, someone boasted (自夸) to me that she was so busy she’s averaged four hours of sleep a night for the last two weeks. She wasn’t complaining; she was proud of the fact. She is not alone.

Why are rational (理性的) people so irrational in their behavior? The answer is that we’re in the midst of a bubble (泡沫). I call it “The More Bubble”.

Uses a thin wire to slice up to medium-hard cheeses in four inch sections.

I may own every cheese slicer ever made.I prefer a wire type cheese cutter so I can cut slices that work well on a piece of bread and sandwich.

This cheese slicer is great for both tasks.It even has adjustable tension on the two cutting wires.A point of information: I did break a wire cutting a very hard piece of cheese with black pepper.Good news,the wire is replaceable,and I was able to purchase new wires to fix it.Maybe best to use on softer cheeses.Lessons learned.But, highly recommended for every other use except for those extremely hard cheeses.
