Why are people taking pictures of their faces, their hobbies and their food? Why do we capture every single moment? I can’t really give you an answer, because honestly, I am one of those people who take photographs of everything.

The special thing about photography is that we can capture moments anywhere and anytime. All we need for this is our smartphone — something that rarely leaves our side.

Compared to other forms of visual ( 视觉的 ) art, you don’t need any special talent for it. Every single one of us can get started with this wonderful hobby, no matter if your goal is to sell your photographs or just to keep them for your own viewing pleasure.

Every picture you take is a personal story. There is no painting without context ( 背景 ). However, unlike a painting, you don’t need to spend hours of your time on it. It is a way to express yourself, with little to no skill involved.

If you prefer to share your pictures with the world, you can also get immediate feedback ( 即时反馈 ). Camera phones allow us to upload our pictures in a few seconds. Pictures connect and show the people around us what is going on in our life right now.

The most amazing thing for me is without question the ability to capture every single moment in my life with just a single click of a button. This enables me to remember every experience as it happens. It’s crazy how the emotions of one single picture can throw you back in time. We can connect to our past, no matter where we are and preserve those memories that are most meaningful to us.

Photography is also an amazing tool to appreciate the world around us and to stay in the moment. There is more to this hobby than “just taking pictures”. It is a way to express your feelings, your drives ( 渴望 ) and also yourself. Photography is art, and it allows each of us to become an artist. Embrace your artsy ( 有艺术气息的 ) side, and take a picture of your next adventure! You won’t regret it, I promise.

1 We can _____________ wherever and whenever we want, just with our smartphones.

2 _______________ is not needed if you just take up taking photos as a hobby.

3 We can get immediate feedback from other people by _______________ if we like sharing them.

4 Photography provides us with a way to express ________________.

5 Photography is more than just a hobby. It is an art that makes everyone become

Frank and his brother Jack lived near the ocean. Frank was outgoing while Jack was shy. They liked doing different things. Frank was famous for organizing games of beach volleyball, football, and any other sport imaginable. Jack loved to draw, paint, or build sandcastles (沙堡) .

Frank didn’t understand why Jack would rather do artistic things than play ball. He believed sports often allowed many kids to play together. That was when Jack’s idea hatched . He would show Frank what doing things together looked like!

After Jack finished creating a special sandcastle with stairs, towers and walls, he took pictures of it. Then he painted colorful posters featuring (突出) his sandcastle and the question, “Can you top this?” He hung his posters everywhere in town, announcing his plan for a day of sandcastle artistry—all ages welcome.

When Frank saw posters, he not so nicely told Jack that no one would come. Still, shortly after sunrise on Saturday, Jack was on the beach digging in the sand. By mid-morning, four kids were sculpting (雕塑) the sand alongside him. By noon, the number had increased a lot.

After Frank came back from his ball game, he went to check how his brother’s plan turned out. He couldn’t believe what he saw. At least 30 people were building a city of sandcastles, and everyone was chatting and laughing and working together! It was the most beautiful thing he had seen on the beach.

“I guess you’ve proved me wrong,” Frank said. “You should make this sandcastle day a yearly tradition!” Handing Frank a shovel (铲子) with a smile, Jack got started together with his brother on their super creation in the sand.
