My soccer coach retired in last week.I wanted to do anything special for him at his retirement party. My mum makes the better biscuits in the world,so I decide to ask her for help.Mum taught me some basic step of baking.I insisted on doing most of the baking myself. I thought the biscuits were really well.My only mistake was that I dropped some on the floor after I was packing them up.
At a party, my coach, with a biscuit in his mouth, asked surprisingly who made them and joked,“I might have to retire again next year just get some more of these biscuits.”
My favorite picture at the party is of my coach and me enjoy the biscuits with happy laughter!

Dear Mike,
How is everything going with you? As for me, I have a great news to share—I will finally get to be in a book!
Last Saturday morning, Dad and I was eating breakfast when we heard a knock on the door. I rushed to open the door. It was our neighbor, Miss Lydia, whom draws pictures for children’s books. Miss Lydia greeted me with a smile, looking happily to see me. “Hello, Miss Lydia. Won’t you come?” I said, remembered my best manners. Miss Lydia came in, joined us at the breakfast table, and said to my dad that he would like both of us to be her models in one of her book! I jump off my chair and run to give Miss Lydia a big hug.
I hope my first model experience will be both enjoyable or unforgettable. I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.
While I was in my 4th month of pregnancy(妊娠期)with my second child,we were preparing for a trip to Louisiana, where Marshall’s family live,to celebrate Jane’s 2nd birthday. Two days before we were to leave,we got the shocking news that I was going to lose the baby. Not knowing when this would happen,we decided to continue with our trip.
Since Marshall’s family lives on a 600-acre cattle farm, you often find that you have a lot of time to yourself to think when you are there. That is precisely what I did not want to do at this time.I told Marshall that I needed to get a good book to get lost in while I was there.I told him I heard the Harry Potter books were good,so he went out and got the first one for me.
During that trip,I totally got lost in the book, which was of great help during a time when I needed a distraction to forget about the sadness. In the book,I noticed the name “Seamus”.I vaguely remembered it was pronounced “Shamus” and I liked the sound of that.I mentioned it to Marshall and he liked it too.Toward the end of the trip,I had just 5 chapters left and I knew I was about to finish the first book, which I was pretty excited about.
Soon after we put Jane down to bed,I had started labor(分娩),so I was unable to read. The labor lasted 5 and 1/2 hours, but Marshall stayed there with me,sitting beside me and reading aloud the last 5 chapters of Harry Potter.I can never fully explain how much that helped me through the experience. And ever since then,Marshall and I both have been fans of the Harry Potter books. We remember how they helped us get through that time of our lives.
We were sad to have lost the baby, but the name Seamus started our journey toward adoption. And we gave this name to our adopted son.Though our Seamus doesn’t have a drop of Irish blood in him,the name fits him perfectly.
25.Why did the writer want a good book during the trip?
A.Because the trip to Louisiana would take a long time.
B.Because she didn’t want to think of losing her baby.
C.Because she had nothing else to do except reading.
D.Because a good book could help her enjoy her trip.
26.According to the story,we can know that the Harry Potter books _________________.

B.include five books all together
C.have someone called Seamus in them
D.can help people deal with their problems
27.The writer named her son Seamus because ___________________.
A.she wanted to keep her trip in memory
B.she loved this name very much
C.her son doesn’t have Irish blood
D.it is a perfect name for a boy
28.Which is the best title for the passage?

B.Seamus And Harry Potter
C.How We Got To Louisiana
D.How My Son Got His Name
Smartphone Security Blankets
Security—for the information on your smartphone, as well as for the phone itself—is a hot topic these days. The truth is that you’re packing a lot of sensitive information on your phone, and you should keep it safe.
When it comes to physical security, iPhone users would do well to download Find My iPhone, a free app (application program) from Apple that allows you to visit a website and see your (lost, stolen or misplaced) phone on a map. You can then sound an alarm, send a message that will pop up on its screen, lock the phone or erase all your data.
Android does not have an exact equivalent, but there are plenty of alternatives. A free app called Lookout offers the find-my-phone feature. The paid version allows you to wipe the data from your phone remotely.
Then there is your coffee shop’s WiFi network. Anyone with minimal technical expert skill can snoop on(窥视)people using shared wireless networks, harvesting passwords and other personal data. Lookout’s apps will caution you when you’ve logged on to an unsecure network, but cannot protect you once you’re there.
In order to protect yourself on such networks, you can use a virtual private network, or V.P.N. This turns all your activity into nonsense to anyone trying to read along with you from across the Starbucks. It also keeps websites from tracking you and, if you’re traveling, allows you to get access to sites that may be blocked in other countries.
If you have an iPhone, the simplest V.P.N. app is probably Hotspot Shield, whose distinguishing feature is said to be that it automatically kicks in each time you start browsing (浏览), as opposed to other V.P.N. apps that require you to start them up manually. This matters, because even if you decide you want a V.P.N. app, you want to spend approximately zero time thinking about it. For the most part, that was true of Hotspot Shield, though occasionally it took a while to connect or temporarily lost connection without warning. I found myself having to turn the app on and off sometimes, which involved setting my phone constantly.
If even reading about the settings on your phone drives you crazy, then it is probably best to stay away from a V.P.N. app. But if you’re the type who can’t resist checking your bank balance from your corner bar, the hassle may be preferable to the risk.
29. Which of the following can warn you against the unsecure network?
A. Android. B. V.P.N. C. Lookout. D. Find My iPhone.
30. By using V.P.N., users can _______.
A. find their lost phone on the Internet B. erase all the data from the phone remotely
C. check their bank balance now and then D. save their browsing from being tracked
31. The underlined word “that” in Para. 6 refers to the fact that _____.
A. a V.P.N. app kicks in automatically B. the user starts V.P.N. apps manually
C. the app takes a while to connect D. users spend no time thinking about it
After that, he knew he could any emergency by doing what he could to the best of his ability.
A.get away with B.get on with C.get through D.get across
Around twenty years ago, I was going through hard times. I couldn’t find a 61 (satisfy) job. To my shame, I had to drive a school bus to make ends meet. One afternoon, while 62 (drive) through a suburban neighborhood, I was 63 sad that I kept asking myself, “Why has my life become so hard?” “What’s wrong with the world?” Then I pulled over the bus to drop off a little girl. As she passed, she 64 (hand) me a pretty earring, saying she found it 65 the floor and I should keep it in case the owner came to look for it. In the evening, the owner did come to look for her earring. When I gave it to her, she got excited and said, “Thanks, you are a 66 (really) gentleman.” I told her that she should thank the little girl 67 had found it. She said, “Yes, and you are a good driver, too. 68 a lovely world it is!” Then she left with satisfaction. I 69 (touch) by her words, I had thought something was wrong with the world just because of my poor condition. In fact, 70 was wrong with the world. I should change my attitude towards life.

There are a lot of products out there that make your life easier. Some, however, are a little sillier than others — so much that they seem like joke products. Here are a few products that sound crazy, but actually rule.
Sleep Phones
It’s hard to imagine something sillier than a music-playing headband you wear while you sleep, but they exist — and are quite popular. Sleep Phones won’t give you the highest quality sound in the world, but if you prefer to fall asleep to music, they’re far more comfortable than normal headphones. While they’re a bit expensive, they might be perfect for you. There’s also a wireless version (版本) if you prefer.
Onion Goggles
If cutting onion brings on the waterworks no matter what you try, it’s time for desperate measures. We tested a bunch of methods for avoiding onion tears, and found the best solutions came down to cutting the onion under a vent (通风孔), or wearing these stylish and awesome goggles.
Lock Laces
There’re some great ways to tie your shoes better, but if you long for the laceless shoes of your childhood days, Lock Laces are a pretty good choice. They’re basically elastic (有弹性的) laces that remove the need to tie your shoes. Sure, people will make fun of you, but you can make fun of them after they trip over their own untied laces. Or you can make your own slip-on shoes with elastic tubing.
2D-Glasses
Hate 3D-movies, but have to go to one? The difference between 2D-glasses and 3D-glasses lies in their lenses (镜片). Each lens of 2D-glasses blocks the same picture, so each eye gets the same picture, while each lens of 3D-glasses blocks a different picture, so each eye gets a different picture which the brain interprets as 3D. Now you have a pair of glasses that can save you from the headache caused by wearing 3D-glasses which are popular in our movie theaters. You can buy them or make a pair for yourself.
25.What do we know about Sleep Phones?
A. There are two versions.
B. They’re comfortable but unhealthy.
C. They give you the best quality sound.
D. They’re cheaper than other headphones.
26.The underlined part “brings on the waterworks” in the text probably means _____.
A. makes your eyes water B. makes your fingers hurt
C. destroys your water pipes D. adds to your washing work
27.What is the advantage of Lock Laces?
A. They are strong and lasting.
B. They help you walk comfortably.
C. They are stylish and eco-friendly.
D. They save you from tying your shoes.
28.Compared with 3D-glasses, 2D-glasses _____.
A. are cheaper and thinner
B. won’t give you a headache
C. let you see a different picture
D. are more popula

Mr. Smith couldn’t open the door because his naughty boy ______ it from the inside.

WHEN you think of a typical American, whom do you picture? A pretty blond white American like Taylor Swift? Or a handsome black American like President Barack Obama or basketball star Kobe Bryant? In fact, there was a time when the average American looked like none of these people.
Back in the year 1500, the average American was a brown-skinned hunter-gatherer who probably rode a horse and wore clothing made from animal skins. Today, these people-who usually identify themselves based on their individual tribes such as Iriquois, Apache and Navajo-are broadly referred to as “Native Americans”, “American Indians” or simply “Indians”.
There’s a chance that you’ve never even heard of American Indians. That’s because there aren’t very many left. When the European settlement of North America began, there were fierce conflicts between the settlers from overseas and these native peoples. After the British government and military were expelled (赶走) in the Revolutionary War, conflicts with natives continued as the states were created that would later make up the US. In these conflicts, millions of natives were killed.
In 1830, president Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act. This act required all Indians to migrate to the west of the Mississippi River to allow for the expansion of the US. American Indians were treated as a military “enemy” until 1924, when the few Indians still alive at that point were granted US citizenship. That was the first time that the US government formally recognized Indians as human beings.
While the story of the American Indians has been a sad one, these peoples’ legacies (遗产) are still felt every day in the US. Many US geographical names come from Indian languages, such as Ohio, Topeka, Kansas, and the Potomac River. At the same time, there are numerous successful academics and other important US leaders who are descended from Indians. And nowadays, more and more history classes in US public schools are educating students about how Indians suffered during the settlement of the US. I was lucky enough to take such a history class in high school. I sincerely believe that if we want a better future, we must look carefully and honestly at the past.
56. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the article?
A. Few American Indians have achieved success due to their poor living conditions.
B. Today few Americans know about how Indians suffered during the settlement of the US.
C. In the past, most of the American Indians lived in the states of Ohio and Kansas.
D. Since the year 1924, American Indians have been recognized as US citizens.
57. What does the article mainly talk about?
A. The sad story of American Indians. B. How the American Indians succeeded in the US.
C. What a typical American is like. D. American Indians’ economic impact on the US.
58. How does the passage mainly develop?
A. By providing examples. B. By making comparisons.
C. By following the order of time. D. By following the order of importance.
It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The streams were long gone back into the earth. If we didn’t see some rain soon we would lose everything.
I was in the kitchen making lunch for my husband and his brothers when I saw my six-year old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. He was obviously walking with a great effort trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again, toward the house.
Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow purposeful long step toward the woods. This activity went on for over an hour: walking cautiously to the woods, then running back to the house. Finally, my curiosity got the best of me. I quietly walked out of the house and followed him on his journey.
He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked; being very careful not to spill(洒出) the water he held in them. Branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He had a much greater purpose. As I looked at him secretly, I saw the most amazing site.
Several large deer appeared threatening in front of him. But Billy walked right up to them. I almost screamed for him to get away. And I saw a baby deer laying on the ground, obviously suffering from heavy loss of water and heat exhaustion, lift its head with great effort to lap up the water cupped in my beautiful boy’s hand.
I stood on the edge of the woods watching the most beautiful heart I have ever known working so hard to save a life. As the tears that rolled down my face began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops... and more drops... and more. I looked up at the sky. It was as if God, Himself, was crying with pride.
