Walt had a strong commercial sense of what would appeal to the public. Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and finally the other Disney theme parks around the world all came about because Walt Disney insisted that he could build an amusement park that was so much bigger and better than other amusement parks that it shouldn’t even be called an amusement park.
In 1940 he disclosed a plan to show Disney characters in their fantasy surroundings at a park across the street from the Disney studio in Burbank.
The idea of an amusement park grew in Walt’s mind as he traveled through the US and Europe and visited attractions of all kinds. Walt was sure that an amusement park would be successful in the United States if it offered a “good show” that families could enjoy together, was clean, and had friendly employees.
In 1948 he shared his concept with trusted friends, a modest amusement park with a central village including a town hall, a small park, railroad station movie theater, and small stores. Outlying areas would include a carnival (联欢) area and a western village. Soon he added spaceship and submarine rides, a steamboat, and exhibit halls.
Four years later, he decided on “Disneyland” for the name and formed a company to develop the park, Disneyland, Inc.
In 1953 he got Stanford Research Institute to examine the economic future of Disneyland and to find the perfect location.
They broke ground in July, 1954, and one year later, Disneyland opened. Within 7 weeks, a million visitors had visited Disneyland, making it one of the biggest tourist attractions in the US.
Walt combined his talent and his sense of what the public would want with lots of hard work. In 1960, with a mixture of huge successes and failures, Disney had created something that was successful beyond Walt’s own dreams.

The International Volunteer Day approaching, some volunteers of our school are organized to assist the policemen with traffic control in our city. At 8 o’clock on the morning of last Sunday, we gathered at the school gate. One of our teachers was in the charge of this activity but he divided us into four groups. Then we went to different crossings near our school. The police officers told us that we should do and how to protect themselves from danger. We spent the whole morning keep the streams of traffic flowing smooth. With a red banner in our hands, we stopped some road user running the red light. Some citizens praised us our good deeds. Because we were very tired that morning, we were proud to have offered service to our society.

A thief who dropped a winning lottery ticket at the scene of his crime has been given a
lesson in honesty. His victim, who picked up the ticket, then claimed the $25,000 prize, managed
to trace him, and handed over the cash. The robbery happened when maths professor Vinicio
Sabbatucci, 58, was changing a tire on an Italian motorway. Another motorist, who stopped “to
help”, stole a suitcase from his car and drove off. The professor found the dropped ticket and put
it in his pocket before driving home to Ascoli in eastern Italy.
Next day, he saw the lottery results on TV and, taking out the ticket, realized it was a winner.
He claimed the 60 million lire(里拉)prize. Then he began a battle with his conscience. Finally, he
decided he could not keep the money despite having been robbed. He advertised in newspapers
and on the radio, saying, “I’m trying to find the man who robbed me. I have 60 million lire for
him—a lottery win. Please meet me. Anonymity(匿名)guaranteed.”
Professor Sabbatucci received hundreds of calls from people hoping to trick him into
handing them the cash. But there was one voice he recognized and he arranged to meet the man
in a park. The robber, a 35‐year‐old unemployed father of two, gave back the suitcase and burst
into tears. He could not believe what was happening. “Why didn’t you keep the money?” he
asked. The professor replied, “I couldn’t because it’s not mine.” Then he walked off, spurning the
thief’s offer of a reward.
61. The sentence “Then he began a battle with his conscience.” in Paragraph 2 implies all of the
following except that _________.

John Boyne is best known for his hugely successful novel,The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Now he has taken on the First World War,a similarly important historical event.Boyne’s novel,Stay Where You Are and Then Leave is the story of Alfie Summerfield,a boy whose father is swept up in the excitement of the outbreak of the war and joins the army.Alfie’s dad writes to his wife and son from the benches(战壕),but after a couple of years the letters stop coming.
According to Alfie’s mum, that’s because dad is“on a secret mission for the government”.Alfie, however, suspects she might be lying and sets out to uncover the truth. At first he doesn’t get far in discovering the mystery.Times are hard:his mum works as a nurse but can’t make ends meet,so Alfie starts missing school to help out, earning money as a shoeshine boy at King’s Cross Station in London. Then he has an amazing stroke of luck:one of his customers is an army doctor whose papers are blown away by the wind.Alfie helps to gather them, and in the process, discovers the true whereabouts of his father.
I’d been enjoying the story up to this point.Alfie is an easy character to like, and the relationship with his troubled mum is well-written.The other people in Alfie’s wodd—his loving dad,his slighfly crazy granny have depth, too. However, from that moment at King’s Cross, there’s an increasingly fairytale-like feel to things, even though the story of Alfie’s search to find his shell-shocked dad and bring him home is grounded in detail. There are more coincidences and the ending is fairytale, too.
There are other problems too.Early on,we are told that Alfie had often heard Prime Minister Asquith’s name on the radio, which would have been difficult in 1914 as the BBC only started broadcasting in 1922.And yet my final judgment on this book is positive.Stay Where You Are and Then Leave has its faults, but all in all it is a good, solid, engaging read.
28.The writer of this passage mainly wants to_________.

C.tell a moving story D.review a new book
29.Where does Alfie most probably find his father?

C.Near his schoo1. D.At King’s Cross Station.
30.According to Paragraph 3,the main problem with the book is______.
A.Alfie is all easy character to like B.Alfie’s granny is slightly crazy
C.the later part sounds unreal D.the story is grounded in detail
31.Which of the following would the writer of the passage most probably agree with?
A.The two novels by John Boyne are equally successful.
B.Generally speaking,Alfie has a happy childhood.
C.The book has too many problems to be recommended for reading.
D.Mile couldn’t have heard about the war on the radio during his childhood.

The London Underground (The Tube)
The main source of public transport in London revolves around the Underground(or the Tube as it is known to Londoners). This network of 12 lines can get you to most places in the center of the city quickly.
It's almost necessary to get an Oyster Card or a Travelcard. Single tickets are priced starting at the intentionally absurd (荒谬的) price of £ 4.80 (Zone 1-3), if you pay cash. Using an Oyster card, a single fare is £ 2.30 if you are traveling within the central Zone 1.
On hot days it is also advisable to take a bottle of water with you as Underground trains are not air-conditioned.
Last trains leave central London at around 00:30 weekdays, 23:30 Sundays. First trains leave the suburbs at around 5:00.
The Bus System
Outside the center of London, Tube stations are farther apart, so buses help fill the gaps. Also, the bus offers a cheaper alternative, even if it is a slower journey.
Cash fares for London buses have been abolished - you cannot pay cash. A bus fare costs £ 1.50 if using only buses, the fare is capped at £ 4.40 per day for Oyster or contactless users.
Light Rail and Trains
You can think of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and the Tramlink as extensions of the Underground, Travelcards purchased at Tube Stations in East London. The DLR connects with a number of the other train services (including connections at Tower Hill or Bank Stations) and can be used to reach Greenwich, Canary Wharf, and Stratford.
River Services
There are a number of different routes along the River Thames. The faster commuter services operate all day from Greenwich Pier to Embankment and from Putney and Chelsea harbour to Blackfriars during Peak Hours only. These routes will pass a number of places of interest including the Houses of Parliament and London Bridge. A return fare from Putney to Blackfriars will cost about 12 pounds.
National Rail
Once you leave Central London or if you are traveling South of the River Thames, the best public transport option will often be National Rail. There are numerous connections to the Rail System from the Tube. Travelcards can be used for travel on the National Rail (but not the Heathrow Express). Oyster cards can be used up to Zone 6 except certain services including Heathrow Express, Heathrow Connect and HSI.
