     With all my best regards.

Yours sincerely,

                                                           Li Hua

After travelling many times with my family members, I went alone to Italy for a long weekend. I traveled by a train and checked into my hotel before exploring the beautiful town. I went out for dinner alone, that meant I could watch people and took in the atmosphere. The next day I went to Lake Garda and took some lovely picture. I then read a book and sat under the sun for a few hours! I had a really amazed time. I think the best thing about traveling alone is you can be selfish and do exactly what you want to. You are in control of your day and fun, but my advice is to take the opportunity to travelling alone. As long as you stay safely, you will have a wonderful time!

Dad had a green comb. He bought it when he married Mum. Every night, he would hand me his  41  and say, “Good girl, help Daddy clean it, OK?”

I was  42  to do it. At age five , this dull task brought me such  43 . I would excitedly turn the tap  44  and brush the comb carefully. Satisfied that I’d done a good job, I would happily return the comb to Dad. He would  45  affectionately at me and place the comb on his wallet.

Two years later, Dad started his own  46  , which wasn’t doing so well. That was when things started to  47  .  Dad didn’t come home as early and as much as he used to. Mum and I became  48  with him for placing our family in trouble. With   49  , an uncomfortable silence grew between us.

After my graduation, Dad’s business was getting back on track. On my 28th birthday, Dad came home 50  . As usually I helped him carry his bags into his study. When I turned to leave, he said ,“Hey, would you help me 51  my comb?” I looked at him a while, then  52  the comb and headed to the sink.

It hit me then: why, as a child, 53  Dad clean his comb was such a pleasure. That routine(习惯) meant Dad was home early to  54  the evening with Mum and me. It  55  a happy and loving family.

I passed the clean comb back to Dad. He smiled at me and  56  placed his comb on his wallet. But this time , I noticed something  57  . Dad had aged. He had wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiled,  58  his smile was still as   59   as before, the smile of a father who just wanted a good  60  for his family.

Once there was a man who knew he could achieve whatever he wanted. He wasn't a great man or highly educated. But, there was always the same story heard from his lips whenever he talked to you, “I will achieve some big things in my life and I will get most of them soon”. I saw him occasionally and each time he spoke like before. But he still hadn't taken one step to complete any of his dreams—no actions at all.

You can guess what happened next. As the years passed by, I went on my way to several new adventures in business, but he remained where he was. The last thing I heard of him just before I moved away was that he was ill and couldn't get around.

Recently I spoke with an old friend about this man. Not that long ago he passed away. I asked whether he had taken action towards any of his many dreams. The sad answer was no.    When I think of this man, I wish he understood what Albert Einstein said, “The value of achievement lies in the achieving.”    This man achieved nothing of his dreams. He lacked the preparation and action. There is no achievement made through a dream unless there is dedicated movement, action steps, and perseverance to continue.

There are several points here that can make the difference between dreaming and achieving. Without a solid and detailed plan for each step, you will spend your entire lifetime dreaming. Besides, in order to accomplish a dream, action must be taken. You also need to consider through any adventure in life whatever that decision is. There are always risks associated with any decision and choice. There are absolutely no guarantees that your choice ends up being the best one.

But, you will never know where a dream will end up unless you do something. Or, you will go through life always wondering what would have happened if you had taken action and not just simply talked.

As a parent, you might have a close emotional connection with your child. You’re the only one who can feel their emotions and understand almost all behavioral   51  . Every mother has an opportunity to keep an eye on their children and analyze everything they say and do. Some signs   52   that something bad is going to happen. If you see that your child is in low   53  , you should be ready to take immediate measures to prevent the explosion of a crying bomb.

Please forget about physical punishment. This old-school-method of parenting is not the best way to cope with a child’s bad temper.   54  , physical punishment is very painful for children. This strategy is the easiest way to put in discipline and make your child willing to obey.   55  , psychologists say that physical punishment is so offensive that it can lead to severe consequence. It fills the minds and hearts of children with fear,

Children are like inexhaustible sources of energy. They can run, jump, scream and fool around all day long. So we should lead them to use their negative energy in a proper manner. It’s   57   important to find developmental activities and keep your child engaged as much as possible. Let them play games and exercise   58   they want — physical activity is good for their health. Don’t forget to encourage your child and present them with candies or stickers. If your child is fond of singing or dancing, then give them an opportunity to open up and perform like a star.

Communication is vital for you and your kids. Every child needs   59

socialization and communication with parents and their peers. Your words and pieces of advice help them become stronger and find the right path in life. It’s a good chance to avoid generation gap and build a relationship   60   trust. Lack of contact and communication usually make children too   61   and cultivate antisocial personality in future.

Remember to arm yourself with patience, for patience is the main   62   for many parents who deal with children’s bad temper. Every mother knows that it’s hard to preserve unchanged calmness and remain indifferent to children’s cries and tears. Increase the strength of your mind and fill your heart with hope and   63  , because parenting is the hardest job in the world.

I think that the   64   of the problem is not children, but their parents. I hope these useful pieces of advice will help you   65   to your child’s bad temper. What other ways to deal with a child’s bad temper? Share your point of view!

Greetings from China!

                                                                    Yours truly,

Li Hua

Today I’d like to give you some idea about how life at an American university or college might be different from the way it is in your country. To be sure, the student body on a U.S. campus is a pretty diverse group of people. First of all, although most students start college at around the age of 18, you will see students in their 30s and 40s and even occasionally in their 60s and 70s. Students on a U.S. campus come from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Many students work at least part-time, and some of them work full-time. Some of the students live in dormitories on campus, some have their own apartments usually with other students, and others live at home. Some colleges and universities have students from many different racial and ethnic minorities. Some schools have a fairly large foreign student population. So you can see that one meets all kinds of people on a U.S. college or university campus.

Now that you have some general ideas of differences in the student body population. I’d like to talk a few minutes about what I think an average student is. Foreign students are often surprised at how poorly prepared American students are when they enter a university. Actually, at very selective schools the students are usually very well prepared, but at less selective schools, they may not be as well prepared as students in your country are. Schools in the States simply admit a lot more students than is usual in most other countries. Also, most young American university students have not traveled in other countries and are not very well-versed in international matters. Foreign students usually find them friendly but not very well-informed about their countries or cultures.

What kind of academic experiences will this so-called “average” student have? The average undergraduate student takes five classes a semester and is in class about 15 hours a week. If he or she takes a class that has a laboratory, this will require two or three more hours. Many introductory undergraduate classes are given in large lectures of 100 or more students. However, many of these classes will have small discussion groups of 15 to 20 students that meet once a week. In these smaller groups, a teaching assistant will lead a discussion to help clarify points in the lectures. Other kinds of classes ---- for example, language classes --- will be much smaller so that students can practice language. In general, American professors are informal and friendly with their students, and, as much as possible, they expect and invite participation in the form of discussion. A large amount of reading and other work is often assigned to be done outside class, and students are expected to take full responsibility for completing these assignments and asking questions in class about those areas they don’t understand. As a rule of thumb, students spend two to three hours preparing for each hour they spend in class. American professors often encourage their students to visit them during office hours, especially if the students are having problems in the class.  (Note: Answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN TEN WORDS.)

78. __________, various socioeconomic backgrounds and large foreign student population are the four examples to show how diverse the student body on a U.S. campus is.

79. Why are most American college students found to be poorly-knowledgeable about foreign counties and cultures?

Because they_____________________.

80. Name at least two kinds of classes that students take based on their sizes.

Have you ever lost your car on a parking lot? You don’t have a clue where your car is after shopping. Then you start walking around clicking on your car keys so the alarm goes off. It can be annoying, especially on a hot sunny day.

No, you needn’t install(安装) an expensive GPS system to keep track of your car. That’s too expensive. You would need to pay a monthly fee to use it.

But is there a way to track your vehicle without spending a fortune? Yes, now there is! A California-based company has created a tiny device that works with your smartphone, which could be exactly what you’re looking for!

What is it?

What else can I do with TrackR?

The device is small and unnoticeable enough that you can attach it to your pet. Put it on their collar, and the issue of searching for them when they run away to nearby places will be over! You’ll never waste a minute searching the whole house for it.

How much does it cost?

You’re probably thinking that this device is very expensive. False! TrackR only costs $29! That’s a small price to pay for peace of mind, isn’t it?

After her parents separated, things at Tami’s house changed. Her mom started working, and Tami became responsible for caring for the house and making meals for herself and her younger sister. Though money was tight, they never went without. They had a nice home in a modest neighborhood, and the girls never wanted for the necessities food, clothing and shelter. What Tami missed most of all, though, was family.

Tami spent the summer during her ninth grade year working at a park to earn extra spending money. Her job was to organize activities for the kids who spent their summer days at the park. The kids absolutely loved Tami. She was constantly going out of her way to do things for them. She would plan picnics, organize field trips and even buy ice cream for all of them, using her own money. She always did more than the job required, even if it did mean using her own money.

She got to know one little boy who lived in an apartment across the street from the park. His parents both worked at fast-food restaurants, and she knew that they didn’t have much money. The boy talked about his upcoming birthday and the fire truck he wanted so badly. He said he was going to be a fireman some day and needed the truck to practice. He told Tami more details about the truck than she knew a toy truck could have.

The boy’s birthday came and went. The next day when Tami saw the boy, she expected to see a shiny red truck in his arms. When he arrived empty-handed, she asked whether he had got the truck. The boy said no. His parents were going to get it for him later, when things were better. He seemed a little sad.

That week, Tami cashed her paycheck and headed for the toy stores. She found the truck easily after all, from his descriptions, she felt she knew it inside out. She used the money from her paycheck to buy the truck, and then had it wrapped in birthday paper.

56. What can we learn from the first paragragh?
A. They didn’t need to worry too much about their living.

B. Tami’s sister became more responsible.

C. Tami began to earn money.

D. Her mother changed her job.

57. Why did Tami buy the birthday present for the boy using her own money?

   A. Because he was poorer than she.

   B. Because he was her best friend.

   C. Because she wanted him to be a fireman.

   D. Because she wanted him to feel love around him.

58. What can we learn from the underlined sentence?

   A. She knew how much money she would pay.

   B. She knew she should check the toy truck inside out.

   C. She was fully aware which toy truck the boy wanted.

   D. She walked inside and then out of the toy store several times.

59. Which of the following could be the opening sentence of the next paragraph?

   A. The next morning, Tami rode to the boy’s house and left the truck at the door.

   B. When the boy showed up at the park that day, he was more excited than ever.

   C. He showed off his new truck to Tami, and then played with it all day long.

What is ecofashion? Eco-fashion is about making clothes that take into account the environment, the health of consumers and the working conditions of people in the fashion industry.  It is a complex phenomenon and the common use of the fashionable terms—‘ecological and ethical. Ecological fashion usually refers to textile (织物) and clothing production processes and the environmental issues surrounding themethical fashion generally relates to the working conditions involved in the producing processes.

What are the problems with fashion? A closer look at the fashion industry points out many problems that are common practices in the creation of our fashions from the field to the factory. Firstlythe production of textiles pollutes the environment heavily. Cottonplanting uses pesticidessheepfarming and woolcleaning contribute to global warmingsyntheticsmaking (人造纤维生产) brings about waste which does harm to our environment. Secondlyevery stage of clothing production has a significant effect on the environment. They all use a great deal of energyand some also involve chemicals which evidently do harm to the surroundings. In addition to thisthere is a lot of waste produced in the processespecially in the form of polluted water. Thirdlygrowing consumption levels and our shopping habits further worsen the bad effects. We are now buying clothes in increasing quantities without realizing the scale on which it affects natural environmentand we are also quick to throw away clothes that have been worn only a couple of times.

Thenhow to solve the problems? Other industries that design products are ahead of the fashion industry when it comes to choosing sustainable materials, designing for minimum waste, choosing energy efficient manufacturing and creating products for longevity. The fashion industry has been slow to adopt these changes and part of the problem is the very nature of fashion. To a large degreeit is the fashion producers that really have the power and the responsibility to shape our future. There are numerous ways in which these producers can reduce their ecological footprintfrom switching to green energy and reducing energy usethrough selecting sustainable materials and choosing local suppliersto recycle and minimize waste. On the other handas consumers we can all make contributions by selecting environmentally friendly clothing and reducing clothing consumption.

There is some concern that eco-friendly fashions are just a trend that we will eventually grow tired of but we can make sure that doesn't happen. Now many people are beginning to shop for organic food products because the benefits of eating food free of chemicals are straightforward and immediate. They relate directly to our personal health. In fact, choosing ecofashion can also contribute to our personal health, though it is mostly done by way of keeping the health of the planet.

“This is your suspect, how would you recognize him?”

The first blonde answers, “That's easy. We'll catch him fast because he only has one eye!”

The policeman says, “Well... Uh... that's because the picture shows his profile.”        Slightly  confused  by  this  ridiculous response, he flashes the picture for 5 seconds at the

The policeman is surprised and speechless because he really doesn't know himself if the

suspect  wears contacts or not. “Well,  that's an interesting answer... wait here for a few minutes

while I check his file and I’ll get back to you on that.” He  leaves the room and goes to his office, checks the suspect's file in his computer, and comes back with a beaming smile on his face

“Wow! I can't believe it... it's TRUE! The suspect does in fact wear contact lensesGood

work! How were you able to make such an acute observation?”

“That's easy,” the blonde replied“He can't wear regular glasses because he only has one eye and one ear.”
