Nowadays more and more people are going abroad on holiday, some of whom even goes on holiday two or three times a year. In my opinion, there are two type of holidaymakers. The first kind always goes to seaside resorts. Their only aim is to have good time sunbathing. They spend their days on the sunshine and their evenings in getting drunk, and then slept soundly. This kind of traveler just needs to pack a pair of sunglasses together with everything that he needs it. The others kind of holiday maker goes to other countries to increasing knowledge of foreign lands. They make use of the chance to take photos, so a good camera is essential. For them, going on holiday is educational. This kind of traveler will move from place to place every few days, enjoying the local food and get a proper feel of a place.
With 10,600 bicycles in circulation, Paris city officials are hoping the program will provide people with more environmentally friendly transportation.
It seems both Parisians and tourists are taking advantage of the program. Since its launch a little over two weeks ago, Velib has already seen almost half a million rentals. And, with the addition of 10,000 more bikes and 700 more stations in the next 12 months, city officials expect at least 200,000 regular users by year end.
Parisian Oliver Bioret has already gone for a spin on one of Velib’s vehicles and plans to make use of them more often.
It’s a real pleasure —when, like me, you don’t have space enough in you flat to have your own bike—to be able to discover, to cross Paris and not have to take the subway,” he said.
As a socialist and longtime green activist, Mayor Bertrand Delanoe regards Velib as just a part of his plan to reduce car traffic and thus, lower pollution by 2020.
Apart from its environmental benefits, Velib is also being praised as a way of collecting money for the city, for all the money from rentals goes to the city government.
Paris is not alone in its attempt to profit from the power of the bicycles.
Across the globe, cities such as Barcelona, which stated its bike-share program in March with 1,500 vehicles and 100 stations, and New York, which launched a five-day trial program last month are using bicycles as a way to cut back on both traffic and pollution.
However, it remains to be seen whether people’s acceptance of these program is simply a passing fashion or whether this movement has the power to take root and transform the face of public transportation around the world.

They say there are three ways to experience the Grand Canyon(科罗拉多大峡谷): on foot,
on mules (骡子) or by air. We chose the first. Up early, my husband and I and our three children couldn’t wait to get started. We decided to walk along a lovely path named Bright Angel Trail. As we set out, I was shocked at h
ow narrow the path was. And I couldn’t help noticing that the other tourists weren’t like us. They had heavy backpacks, water bottles, and hats. But as usual we were dressed. As the sun rose higher, Arizona’s famous heat seemed to roast (烘烤) us. There was no shade and our legs were aching. We decided to go back, with the girl on my back and the boys far behind. By the time we finally got back, we were weak. The next day, after we’d had a long rest and a good breakfast, we were ready for another view of the Canyon by air. After our last walk, this would be the easiest thing in the world. We called to each other excitedly as the plane took off and circled around the Canyon. But the smiles on our faces disappeared as the pilot tossed (翻转) the plane around, pretending he was going to hit the ground. I shouted, "STOP, TAKE US BACK!" When we finally arrived back on land, once again our legs were like jelly(果冻). We hardly spoke as we drove back.
As I said, there are three ways to view the Grand Canyon. We never tried the mules, but personally I’d suggest a fourth: buy yourself a good magazine like National Geographic. That way,
you can see the Canyon, without fear or tiredness.

Dear Editor,
I am writing tell you about the discussion we’ve had about whether it is necessary of middle school students to have mobile phones. Most students think this is more convenient for them to keep in the touch with their parents and classmates. And what’s much, it’s a fashion. However, most teachers think middle school students are not old enough to control them. It is a waste of time for students to play games and sending massages on their mobile phones. Therefore, it is easy to make students contact with each other. In my opinion, following the fashion was understandable. But as middle school student, we should put all our energy into our study. Yours truly, Mary
