A. Though    B. Unless

C. If    D. When

Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t love others until you love yourself. Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t expect someone else to love you until you love yourself. Either way, you’ve got to love yourself first and this can be tricky. Surely we all know that we’re the apple of our parents’ eyes, and that our Grandmas think we’re great talents and our Uncle Roberts think that we will go to the Olympics, but sometimes it’s a lot harder to think such nice thoughts about ourselves. If you find that believing in yourself is a challenge, it is time you build a positive self-image and learn to love yourself.

Self-image is your own mind’s picture of yourself. This image includes the way you look, the way you act, the way you talk and the way you think. Interestingly, our self-images are often quite different from the images others hold about us. Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be. Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world.

The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes. That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day. Don’t allow doubts to occur in it.

It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can’t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself. Well, roll up your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task. If you think you’re silly because you aren’t good at math, find a tutor. If you think you’re weak because you can’t run a mile, get to the track and practice. If you think you’re dull because you don’t wear the latest trends, buy a few new clothes. But remember, just because you think it doesn’t mean it’s true.

The best way to get rid of a negative self-image is to realize that your image is far from objective, and to actively convince yourself of your positive qualities. Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting a positive self-image. When you can pat yourself on the back, you’ll know you’re well on your way. Good luck!

A new study reported in a medical magazine concludes that even smokers who reach their 70s are likely to live longer if they stop smoking. Researchers say that they have got some of the strongest evidence (证据) that it's never too late to stop smoking.

The study was based on a five-year follow-up of 7, 178 people over the age of 65 who lived in Boston, New Haven and Washington counties in Iowa. The report showed former smokers ran about the same risk of death from heart disease as those who never smoked. Women who stopped smoking faced about the same cancer-death risk as those who never smoked, but men who gave up smoking still had a 50% higher risk. The men's extra risk of cancer largely disappeared if they had not smoked for more than 20 years. The discovery does not agree with the widely-known belief that by the time smokers reach old age, their habit has already hurt them, and those who continue to live healthily are probably immune (有免疫力的) to the dangers of cigarettes.

Ever since I was a kid I had a 6 second rule. That means that if I had something I needed to do but didn't want to, I'd count till 6 and do it anyway. My personal rule was to just never ever break that rule, that at 6,I HAD to get it going. Most of the time I'd use it to get out of bed or get out of the bath.Sometimes I'd also use it to restrict my time playing "ok in 6 seconds I'll stop playing with my dolls."

As I grew older,I'd use it as a motivation to get it going with my homework, get off messenger, etc. It really worked well, the same rule applied;whatever happens, don't cheat the "rule of 6." Most of the time,I wouldn't even have to count till 6 because I knew it would just mean I d have to do it,so I'd just do it anyway. As an adult,I've pretty much conditioned myself to do things by the rule of 6.I've pretty much mastered most usual things in my life but the rule of 6 never fails me when I start something new.Exercising, running, getting cooking, starting reading,it just works for me.

At the time, when I was 6,6 was my favorite number. So just go ahead and pick a number from 1-10 (although Id suggest 3-10) and try it.The important thing is not just to let yourself down.Like any other trick,it only works if you allow it to.

Money Matters

Parents should help their children understand money.   16   So you may start talking about money when your child shows an interest in buying things, candy or toys, for example.

1. The basic function of money

Begin explaining the basic function of money by showing how people trade money for goods or services. It is important to show your child how money is traded for the things he wants to have. If he wants to have a toy, give him the money and let him hand the money to the cashier(收银员).  17   When your child grows a bit older and understands the basic function of money, you can start explaining more complex ways of using money.

2. Money lessons

Approach money lessons with openness and honesty.    18    If you must say no to a child’s request to spend money, explain, “You have enough toy trucks for now.” Or, if the request is for many different things, say, “You have to make a choice between this toy and that toy.”

3.   19

Begin at the grocery store. Pick out two similar brands of a product a name-brand butter and a generic(无商标产品)for example. You can show your child how to make choices between different brands of a product so that you can save money.   20   If he chooses the cheaper brand, allow him to make another purchase with the money saved. Lateryou may explain how the more expensive choice leaves less money for other purchases.

A. Wise decisions

B. The best time to teach a child anything about money is when he shows an interest.

C. Permit the child to choose between them.

D. The value of money

E. Tell your child why he can or cannot have certain things.

F. Ask yourself what things that cost money are most important to you.

G. Talk about how the money bought the thing after you leave the toy store.
