Hoverboards are quite convient for people to carry or ride on the busy street, especially in college camps, more and more students choose to ride a hoverboard to class.
So hoverboards(电动滑板)were among the most popular Christmas gifts of 2015. They may have also been most dangerous gifts of 2015.
A true hoverboard looks like a skateboard without wheels. To “hover” means to float in the air without moving much in any direction. The popularity of hoverboards began in the 1980s, with the “Back to the Future” movies. Characters in the second and third films used hoverboards as transportation.

And another user Erin Rafferty uploaded a video of her mother falling off a hoverboard, with the caption, “Who let mom on the hoverboard?”

Studies suggest that some hoverboard brands have defective batteries o r plugs.
Many major airlines worldwide have banned hoverboards because of the fire risk. But some passengers did not hear the news. Australian actor Russell Crowesaid on Monday about his disappointment that Virgin Australia Airlines did not permit his children to take their hoverboards on the plane.
Major retailers (零售商)are also taking steps to improve the safety of the hoverboards they sell. Last week I visited my friend Pete in the new home where he lives with his wife and daughter. Pete used to spend his holidays travelling around the world.Nowadays he prefers to spend his holidays and weekends making his house look more beautiful. Like hundreds of thousands of other British people, he has discovered the joy of DIY (Do It Yourself), which means if there are any things that need fixing around the house, he will try to do the job himself.
As he showed me the new kitchen he put together by himself and the newly painted walls, I asked Pete where he got his inspiration (灵感) from. He told me that his favorite source of ideas was a DIY program on TV.
This got me thinking about the great popularity of DIY programs in the UK. Each major channel(频道) has at least one home or garden improving show and there’s even a satellite channel completely about the subject.
I guess it is not really surprising that DIY programs are so popular. Two common sayings in Britain- ‘an Englishman’s home is his castle’ and ‘there’s no place like home’-show how important our houses are to us. With the present economic downturn, many people can’t afford to buy a bigger house so they are looking at how they can make their house better without spending a lot of money. DIY is the perfect choice.
But be careful! I read a report that said over 230,000 people were injured while doing home improvements in the UK in just one year, including 41,000 who fell off ladders (梯子) and 5,800 who were seriously hurt by hammers(锤子). So I won’t be going down to the hardware store.
25. How did Pete spend his holiday in the past?
A. Visiting his friends
B. Travelling around the world
C. Diving
D. Making his house beautiful
26. Which might NOT be shown in a DIY program on TV?
A. Scuba diving
B. A garden improving feature (特别节目)
C. Home improvements
D. Fixing things in kitchens
27. Which is NOT the reason why DIY is popular among British people?
A. They enjoy DIY
B. They want to be on TV
C. They want to make their houses better themselves
D. They can improve their houses without spending much money
28. At the end of the article the writer wants us to remember _____.
A. not to go to the hardware store
B. to be careful not to get hurt while doing DIY
C. to keep watching DIY on TV while drinking a nice cup of tea
D. not to climb ladders or use hammers

In colleges around the country, most students are also workers.
The reality of college can be pretty different from the images presented in movies and television. Instead of the students who wake up late, party all the time, and study only before exams, many colleges are full of students with pressing schedules of not just classes and activities, but real jobs, too.
This isn’t a temporary phenomenon. The share of working students has been on the rise since the 1970s, and one-fifth of students work all year round. About one-quarter of those who work while attending school have both a full-course load and a full-time job. The arrangement can help pay for tuition (学费) and living costs, obviously. And there’s value in it beyond the direct cause: such jobs can also be critical for developing important professional and social skills that make it easier to land a job after graduation. With many employers looking for students with already-developed skill sets, on-the-job training while in college can be the best way to ensure a job later on.
But it’s not all upside. Even full-time work may not completely cover the cost of tuition and living expenses. The study notes that if a student worked a full-time job at the federal minimum wage, they would earn just over $15,000 each year, certainly not enough to pay for tuition, room, and board at many colleges without some serious financial aid. That means that though they’re sacrificing time away from the classroom, many working students will still graduate with at least some debt. And working full time can reduce the chance that students will graduate at all, by cutting into the time available for studying and attending classes.
There is little reward for attending but not finishing college. Students who wind up leaving school because of difficulty in managing work and class are likely to find themselves stuck in some of the same jobs they might have gotten if they hadn’t gone at all. The difficulty of working too much while in school can create a cycle that pushes students further into debt without receiving any of the financial or career benefits.
8.According to the passage, the reality of college students is that ______.
A. they throw parties a lot B. they stay up late every night
C. they pay no attention to exams D. they work besides attending classes
9.What is the indirect cause of an increasing number of working students?
A. The lack of summer jobs for young adults.
B. The need of developing social networks.
C. The chance of finding a job after graduation.
D. The expenses of high tuition and living costs.
10.We can learn from the passage that ______.
A. dropping out of college may not help students get career benefits
B. students can cover all their college expenses through working
C. students receive a huge reward for managing work and class
D. working students are more likely to finish college
11.What is the best title for the passage?

It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005. While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of labor, he returned to find his bike gone.
The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries, saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live.
I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity (人性)as a whole. And it has influenced us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.

A. From radio broadcasts. B. From a newspaper.
C. From TV news. D. From a stranger.
69. What do the couple learn from their experience?
A. Strangers are usually of little help. B. One should take care of their bike.

After five years away in my hometown, I find that the neighborhood which I used to living in has changed a lot. The Sichuan Restaurant and the older fish shop across the street from our middle school were gone. There exist now a park where has a small river running through. The factory at the corner of Friendship Street and Zhongshan Road has been moved out of the city, and sports center has been built in their place. The market at the corner of Friendship Street and Xinhua Road has been given way to a supermarket. Besides the bookstore next to our middle school is still there.
The Internet has opened up a whole new online world for us to meet, chat and go where we've never been before. But just as in face - to - face communication, there are some rules of behavior that should be followed when on - line. 36 Imagine how you a feel if you were in the other person's shoes.
For anything you're about to send: ask yourself, "Would I say this to the pcreon's face?" If the answer is no,rewrite and reread. 37
If someone in the that room is rude to you, your instinct (本能)is to fire back in the same manner. But try not to do so. 38 If it was caused by a disagreement with another member,
try to fix the situation by politely discussing it. Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room.
39 Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, whether it's a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer, be kind about it. If it's a small mistake, you may not need to say anything. Even if you feel strongly about it,think twice before saying anything . Having good manners yourself doesn't give you license(特许)to correct everyone else. 40 At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended.
It is not polite to ask others personal questions such as their age,sex and marital status(婚姻状况).Unless you know the person very well, and you ate both comfortable with sharing pcreonal information , don't ask such questions.
A. Everyone was new to the network once.
B. If you do decide to tell someone about a mistake, point it out politely.
C. It's natural that there are some people who speak rudely or make mistakes online.
D.The basic rule is simplet treat others in the same way you would want to be treated.
E. You should either ignore the person,or use your chat software to block their messages.
F. When you send short messages to a person online, you must say something beautiful to hear.
G. Repeat the process till you feel sure that you'd feel comfortable saying the words to the person face.
