We were going to have a test today. It would show if we were 1 to get in an honours class next year. But, I didn't think it was hard for me. It was the maths part—my favourite. We took the test 2 computer. There 3 52 questions for us to do in one hour. The boy behind me 4 nervous. The girl on my left was nervous, 5. But when I began 6 the questions, I saw the whole thing 7 a game. I tried to 8 easy ways to do the maths problems. At the end of the test, my score was 307. But what did it mean? I had 9 idea. I asked my friend John. He got 227. When he knew my score, he said, "Oh my God. You're a talent!" So, I asked 10 people, and got the same answers.
I come from a large family. My parents both have many brothers and sisters. When I was a boy, during late July, my family would hold a reunion (聚会) every year. Usually more than 50 family members would attend the party.
The reunion would take place in a large public park in the late afternoon because it wasn't too hot at that time. Each family would bring their own food to eat. Usually each family had a special dish that would be shared. Some families would bring potato salad while others would bring a dessert or self-made special drinks. There was always more than enough food.
Almost everyone would play games. Younger people played softball, football, volleyball and so on. However, Uncle Sam always taught Cousin Chris and me to play badminton. Chris and I went to the same school and we kept beating other players and won several state games. The older family members would sit under a tree and watch the games or just sit around and talk. Everyone enjoyed himself/ herself because it was a good chance to catch up on what his/her relatives were doing that year.
Those family reunions are the best memories I have of my childhood. Today it seems that everyone is too busy to hold or attend family reunions. Now, no matter how nostalgic I feel about those family reunions, those memories remain very clear in my mind.

Many people believe that light bulbs were invented by Thomas Edison. Is that true? Edison was born in 1847 in Milan, Ohio, USA. In school, Edison was often absent-minded, and his teacher did not think that he was very smart. In 1854 his family moved to Port Huron, Michigan, where young Edison sold candy and newspapers on trains from Port Huron to Detroit. These early sales experiences led Edison to discover his talents as a businessman and eventually(最后) to found fourteen companies, including General Electric', which still exists today.
Edison started his career as an inventor in Newark, New Jersey. In 1878 Edison formed the Edison Electric Light Company. During his first public demonstration(展示)of his incandescent light(白炽灯) bulb on December 31,1879, he said, "We will make electricity so cheap that only the rich will burn candles." Light bulbs were not the only things Edison worked on. He also built the first industrial research laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. There, Edison and his assistant, William J. Hammer, worked on the telephone, phonograph(留声机), electric railway, and electric lighting.
However, Edison did not invent many of the things he is said to have invented; he only improved them so that they could be sold to the public. He did not invent the electric light bulb, either. He did, however, start the first company that made and sold electric light bulbs. The only major invention that he actually did invent was the phonograph. It was his invention of the phonograph in 1877 that made him famous, and he became known as The Wizard of Menio Park(门洛帕克的奇才), New Jersey.

Jenna looked out of the window and said, "It's still raining! Now my day with Nikki is not going to be fun. It's so boring. "
Jenna's cousin Nikki was coming over for the day. They had planned a picnic at the park. Rain drummed harder on the roof. "And it's noisy!" Jenna shouted.
Grandma came into the living room. "Did I hear you describe the rain as boring and noisy?" she asked. "Sounds like somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed."
"I did not, "'Jenna said." I got up the same way I always do. "
"You know what I mean. "" Grandma said.
"Look, "Nikki came in and said. "I've been so patient. I've been waiting for months to wear these boots (靴子)! The yellow ducks look just like bath toys. Let's go walking in the rain!"
"I don't want to get wet, "Jenna said. "I want it to be sunny so we can go to the park. That would be fun. "
Grandma looked at Jenna and said, "That's enough. I know you're down about the park. But you can still have a fun day. "
Jenna thought for a while. She knew Grandma was right. She was being kind of silly. Nikki sat down next to her. "I'm sorry you're sad. " Nikki said.
"Oh, it's okay, "Jenna said. "Do you still want to go walking? I can get my rain boots. ""Sure, "Nikki said. "And I have an idea for what to do then. We can have an inside picnic!" "An inside picnic? How can we do that?" Jenna asked.
"We can get the picnic blanket and put it on the floor. Then we can make a picnic lunch. We can eat it inside. We won't get wet, and there won't be any bugs!" Nikki said.
"That sounds like fun, "Jenna agreed. "We can walk around outside first. Then we'll make lunch. Can we make cookies too, Grandma?" she asked.
Grandma said, "Yes!"
