Mrs. Yao is a wonderful teacher. She tried to make learning fun for us, so she added singing and dancing into our class. On the other hand, she was very strict with us. If we didn't finish our homework, we should get a detention (放学后留校) .
In our life, Mrs. Yao was also a teacher that we all trusted. Once we took a trip to Shanghai. I fell down on the wet hotel bathroom floor. My hand got hurt. One of my roommates quickly got Mrs. Yao while another stayed to help me stop the blood. Mrs. Yao came with a few hotel workers. Clearly, the workers were very angry because I made the towels and the bed dirty. Mrs. Yao, like a bear protecting her baby, asked to speak with their boss. Soon the boss showed up. Being the super teacher that we trusted, Mrs. Yao soon had the problem solved. Mrs. Yao came back to me later. She checked my hand carefully and said, "Don't be worried. I will always be here for all of you."
Also she saw my potential (潜能) for learning Chinese. I felt thankful to her.
On 14 March 2019, one of science's brightest stars went dark. Stephen Hawking, the worldfamous British scientist, died at 76 in Cambridge, the UK.
Hawking is considered to be the greatest scientist in history since Albert Einstein. He came up with the theory that the universe began with the Big Bang(大爆炸) and will end in black holes. His theories became the base for a lot of later research. He also wrote books to help common people understand the universe. His most famous book is A Brief History of Time, which has sold more than 10 million copies around the world.
Besides his scientific achievements, Hawking was also someone who had a strong will and optimistic attitude. When Hawking was 21, he was diagnosed(诊断) with a serious illness that stopped him from walking and talking. Later in life, he had to sit in a wheelchair and "speak" using a computerized voice. But this didn't stop him from living a meaningful and colourful life. "If one is physically disabled, one cannot afford to be psychologically(心理上) disabled as well," he once said.
Hawking travelled around the world to attend science conferences, visiting every continent, including Antarctica(南极洲). He was also a fan of pop culture and appeared on TV shows such as Star Trek and The Big Bang Theory.
He celebrated his 60th birthday by going up in a hotair balloon; when he was 65, he took part in a zerogravity flight to experience weightlessness. He hoped to travel into space one day. In 2019, Hawking spoke about how he felt life was unfair when he was first diagnosed with his illness. "But now, 50 years later, I can be quietly satisfied with my life," he said.
It is Wednesday today. But we don't lessons. Miss.Wang takes us to the zoo. We are very happy. We get to the early. About two thousand come to the zoo. First we see an . It is very big, but its tail(尾巴) is very small. Its long nose carry woods(搬木头).We also see some .They play on a small hill. The monkey likes fruit. There is a big tiger the forest. It is dangerous(危险的). We can't get close to(靠近)it. The tiger meat every day. There many animals in the zoo. I would like to go to the zoo again.
I opened the door. "Where are you going, Mom?" my elder son asked me. And his little brother asked, "Can we come, too?" "I'm going for a coffee," I answered. "And no, you can't come." Then I ran away before they could say something, But the guilt(内疚的) feelings slowly went away.
Being a mom is hard work. There's always something new to do to make my kids happy. Sometimes, I need to do something just for.me. It teaches my kids an important lesson: I matter, too.
I know parenting articles often tell us it's OK to take time for ourselves. But it's so much harder to walk the talk. Of course, we should put ourselves first sometimes. And not just when we are sick. I'm talking about putting ourselves first in other ways. For example, tell the baby that after thirty minutes of reading to them, you are going to read your own book or eat at your favorite restaurant. These selfish moments are good ways to teach our children that we are important too.
When you ask my kids "What does mom like?" They can answer with some of my interests and favorite things: reading books, watching movies, taking care of animals and then. They often see me do the things I enjoy, so they understand me and would stay with Dad. This understanding is good for our children." She's a mom" shouldn't be the only way your child describes you. If it is, it's time to be a little selfish, Moms.

One day, a boy had a fight with one of his classmates. He went to his grandfather's home before school was over. He told him his story angrily. "He is really bad," the boy said, "and I hate him."
The grandfather said slowly, "Let me tell you a story. When I was a boy, I also sometimes hated others for what they did…"
As the boy listened carefully, the grandfather went on, "There are always two tigers inside my heart. One is good and kind. He gets on well with everything around him. But the other is bad and unfriendly. Even the smallest thing will make him angry. He fights with everyone all the time, and for no reason. He can't think carefully because he always hates others. It is difficult to live with these two tigers inside my heart. They both try to control me."
The boy looked into his grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which tiger always controls you, grandfather?"
The old man said slowly and seriously, "The one that I feed. I always feed the good and kind tiger, so I never hate others and seldom get angry now. "
Hello! My name is Beibei. I'm a black dog robot (机器人). I am two. I don't have a mother. This is a nice room, but it is not mine. It's my owner's. She is a nice girl. Her name is Grace. Grace is not in her room now. She is at school. Here is a photo on the desk. Grace and her cousin Mary are in it. This is not a sofa. It's a bed for me. And a red hat is on the bed. It's Grace's. My hat is red, too. But it's not here. It's on my head.
Grace and her parents are nice to me. I have a nice family. What about you?
Hello! I'm Mary. I'm going to have a busy weekend. On Saturday morning, I'm going to the Beach Park with my friends. We are going to ride bikes there because we can do some sightseeing on the way. We are going to play on the beach. In the midday, we are going to have a picnic in the park. In the afternoon, we are going to visit our English teacher. She wants us to go to her home and she will help us with our English. In the evening, I'm going to visit my aunt with my mother, because it's my cousin's birthday. There is going to be a party in her house. On Sunday morning, I'm going to the bookstore with my good friends. I'm going to buy some storybooks. After lunch, I'm going to do sports with my brother. In the evening, I'm going to watch TV and clean my room.
The first time I ever really noticed a disabled person, I was studying in the third grade. I saw some disabled people before, but I never really knew or cared about what those persons go through.
When a new student arrived in my third grade class, I thought he would just be a common student, but this student was different. His name was Derek and he had autism(孤独症).He sometimes had random outbursts(随意的发作) during class and we would stand there, doing nothing because we didn't know why he was doing that. When he sat down at desk, we would try to get away from him. After class, we would play jokes on each other, imitating(模仿) Derek and laughing about it.
Then one day, Derek's mom came to our class and talked with us. She told us that Derek wasn't just having random outbursts—he was trying to communicate. Then she chose a volunteer and filled that person's mouth with soft sweets. When we found the volunteer had great trouble in trying to speak, the mother explained that was Derek was going through every day. We all understand her meaning.
After this talk, no one tried to make fun of Derek or run away from him. We accepted his outbursts in class and he became one of our friends. Having a class with Derek has taught me to have an open mind to those who are different from us. My experience in having an autistic classmate has provided me with a good lesson.
Now whenever I meet a family with a child who's behaving differently. I always remember what I have learned in my third grade class and go up to him or her.

A two-week-old baby hippo sat alone on the bank of the Zambezi River in Zambia, a country in Africa. His mother was dead. The morning sun rose and with every passing minute he lost more strength. Without his mother, the baby probably wouldn't make it through the night.
Luckily, Ian Stevenson and his friends saw the baby hippo. They took him back, fed him milk and eggs. The young animal was saved and soon doubled his weight. He seemed happy and healthy.
Later, the hippo, now called Douglas, was moved to an ideal home at Chipembele, a wildlife center owned by Ann and Steve Tolan, They built a sleeping place for Douglas by a pool where he liked to swim. They fed him every three hours. Douglas enjoyed playing with the Tolans' pet dogs and swimming in the pool. Sometimes at night, other hippos came from the nearby river to eat grass. At first, Douglas would walk into his pool to hide. "But he soon fought against his shyness and played with them, "Tolan shys. Douglas remained at Chipembele for about five years before he was moved to another part of Zambia.

Thirty years ago, I fell in love with a dog called Cookie.1it was hard for me to add another mouth to feed, I never gave it a second thought.
Cookie could quickly2 seeing my bags spread across the bed with my leaving on a trip. She was also good at showing unhappiness with her tail, trying to make me 3.
When I came back home and wrote my stories, she 4 sat next to my desk and we could have conversations about where I'd been and what I'd seen. We 5each other as only animals and those who love them can. I often read to her what I'd written. If she turned away to start cleaning a paw, I knew I had to improve my story. 6. she didn't understand what I was really writing. But this kind of communication with her was my7of pushing a story to a higher level.
She inspired(激发) me to make up many stories and became my partner in my travels. In this way, we travelled together. Some readers may think it8to have such a relationship, but dog owners like me will know it's true and understand.
Today I am still a travel writer. My heart is broken because my friend Cookie left me forever. Like many old friends, she and I9much over the years. I miss her so much and I am also10to her for being at my side for all those years, listening and simply loving.
It doesn't matter if she never understood a word I said or that she never left our home. She was my travel partner and always will be.
Karie double-checked the words on her spelling test. If she got 100 points today, she would win her class's spelling competition and a brand-new dictionary. Also,Ms. McCormack had promised to do a handstand if anyone got a perfect score.
Three more words to go. N-i-c-e-l-y. Q-u-i-c-k-l-y. H-o-n-e-s-t-y. Wait! She had spelled honesty, not honestly! She erased the t-y and wrote l-y before handing in her paper.
After grading the test papers, Ms. McCormack walked into the classroom. Then, as if she were an Olympic gymnast*, Ms. McCormack's feet flipped into the air.
"Congratulations. Karie! You did it!" She announced while doing a handstand. The whole class cheered.
Ms. McCormack righted herself and presented Katie with her prize. It was a dictionary with the words: To Karie Carter, for her perfect score in spelling.
As soon as she arrived home, Karie showed Mom her spelling test paper and prize with excitement." Well done, Karie." Mon hugged her.
Karie smiled widely and scooped*up her cat." Can you spell nicely, Casper? And quickly and honesly, and…"
____▲____Honesly?
H-O-N-E-S-L-Y!
Karie threw the test paper into her schoolbag, rushed to her room and fell onto her bed. How could she tell the class she hadn't earned the prize after all? That McCormack did the handstand for nothing?
Then, Karie thought back to the last time her mother had bought her brother Kevin a pizza after his school play. They had almost reached home when Mom realized that the shop keeper had given them too much change." Let's turn around, "" Mom said. On the way back to the shop, Kavin kept saying, " But it's not our fault*. The shopkeeper should have been more careful."
Had Kevin been right? If he had been right, then it wasn't her fault that Ms. McComack had given her the prize. Shouldn't Ms. McCormack have been more careful when grading her test? Karie took out her pencil. If she put the missing" t" back in, no one would know.
The next morning, Karie got to school earlier than usual. Ms. McCormack was unlocking the classroom."" I can't keep this. I misspelled honestly and you didn't catch it." Karie said with her head down, giving her teacher the spelling paper and the dictionary.
For a moment, Ms. McCormack stood silently, reading the words on the dictionary. Then she took out her pen, crossed out the word perfect and wrote honest before returning the dictionary to Karie.
Karie's jaw dropped." I get to keep this? Honestly?"
"For honestly, no." Ms. McCormack smiled." But for honesty, yes."

There is a true story and it moved a lot of people. After a strong earthquake(地震), a 73-year-old woman was in the ruins for more than 90 difficult hours, her loyal dog stayed with her all the time.

My mother used to ask me what the most important part of the body was. I got different answers at different ages.
When I was young,l thought sound was very important to us,so I said,"My ears,Mum. " But she shook(摇动) her head and said no. Several years passed, and she asked me again. I believed that I got the right answer after thinking it over. So I told her, "Sight is very important to everyone, so it must be our eyes. " But she told me I was wrong. I tried many times after that, but her answer was always the same. Till(直到. . . 为止) last year,my grandma died. Everybody was crying, everybody was hurt. My mom looked at me and asked me with tears in her eyes. "Do you know the answer now?" I was surprised when she asked me this question then. "My son, the answer is your shoulder(肩膀). Everyone needs a shoulder to cry on(倾诉的对象). "
Finally, I realized(意识到) all she hoped is that I can have enough love and friends so that I will have a shoulder to cry on when I need it.
There was a king who gave his daughter a beautiful diamond necklace. The necklace was missing and people in the kingdom searched everywhere but could not find it.
So the king put up notices, saying that anyone who found it could get a box of gold coins.
One day, a young man was walking along a river when he saw something shining in the river. When he looked, he saw the diamond necklace. He decided to catch it to get the reward(报酬).
He put his hand in the river and tried to catch the necklace, but missed it. He took his hand out and looked again. The necklace was still there. He tried again. But strangely, he still missed the necklace! He started walking away, feeling sad. Just then, an old man walking by saw him, and asked him what was the matter.
The young man didn't want to share the secret with him, thinking he might take the necklace for himself, so he refused to tell him anything. The old man could see the young man was in trouble, He asked the young man to tell him the problem again and promised that he would not tell anyone about it. The young man finally told him about the necklace and how he tried hard to catch it, but kept failing.
The old man then told him that perhaps he should try looking upward, toward the tree, instead of in the river. The young man looked up, and the necklace was hanging on the branch of a tree. He had been trying to catch a reflection(倒影)of the necklace all the time.
Once a king travelled around his country and one day he was very tired and he wanted to have a rest. Now he stood on the road between two houses, the one large and beautiful, the other small and poor. The large one belonged to a rich man, and the small one belonged to a poor man. He went to the large one. The rich man looked at the traveler from head to foot, and because the king was wearing old clothes, and did not look like one who had much money. He said, “No, I cannot take you in, my rooms are full of things. Go away quickly,” and with this words he closed the door and left the king standing there. So the king went across to the small house and knocked. The poor man opened the little door and let the traveler come in. The poor man's wife welcomed him, then she cooked some potatoes and carrots. The king sat down with the man and his wife, and he enjoyed their food very much. When they finished the supper and it was bed-time, the woman asked the king to have a sleep at their home. The next day the king gave a lot of money to the poor man and thanked him a lot.
It was a beautiful spring morning. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and the sun was warm but not too hot. Mr. White saw an old man at the bus stop with a big and black umbrella in his hand.
Mr. White said to him, "Do you think it's going to rain today?"
"No," said the old man, "I don't think so."
"Then are you carrying the umbrella because the sun is too hot?"
"No, the sun is not very hot in spring."
Mr. White looked at the big umbrella again, and the man said, "I am old man, and my legs are not very strong. I must have a walking-stick. But people will say, 'Look, the man is so old, and I don't like that.' When I carry an umbrella in fine weather, people only say, 'look at that stupid man.'"
