    Do you know the whales in the sea? There are many relatives(亲属) in the whale family and they always live together with whales.

    Few people know dolphins(海豚) are part of the whale family. Dolphins are not fish. They are mammals(哺乳动物). They breathe air, and they have babies and feed them with milk. Dolphins are famous for their wonderful shows. They can jump high out of the water and show turns in the air. These jumps give the dolphins time to breathe.

    Porpoises(鼠海豚) are also in the whale family and are quite like dolphins. But they are different in the size and shape of the mouth. The dolphin's mouth is long and thin, but the porpoise's is short and thick. Dolphins are also more talkative than porpoises. Dolphins make sounds to talk with each other under water. But porpoises do not do this. Both of them are smart and friendly to humans.

    Not all the members of the whale family are friendly. Big whales are much easier to be angry than smaller dolphins or porpoises. An angry whale can be dangerous. Perhaps this helped to create the story of Moby Dick that sank (使下沉) a ship and made all the people on it die in the sea.

    The friendship between humans and dogs probably began 14, 000 years ago. Here is  example of a dog's life in the human world today.

    Jessie is Nancy's pet dog. She is just a member of Nancy's family. Nancy looks after her very(care). Jessie can always find  delicious in her bowl when she is hungry. Every day, Nancy (prepare) meat, chicken and different kinds of vegetables for her. Jessie also has yogurt and two (spoon) of honey after dinner. After that, they go out for a walk. Nancy's husband is a famous doctor and(they) only son is away in Beijing,she has enough time and money to look after Jessi, and she really enjoys  (do) it. "I want to give her the healthiest and (wonderful) life as long as possible!" she says.

Long ago, a young man often said that he was very poor and had nothing. One day, an old man walked past. He heard the young man's words and said, "Hello, young man! What are you talking about? You have nothing? That's not true! You have the most expensive things in the world, so you are a rich person." The young man was very surprised and asked, "Why do you say that? You can see I have nothing. What are these expensive things?" Then the old man said, "If you sell your eyes to a rich blind(盲的) man, you'll make a lot of money and can get everything you want. Would you like to sell them?" The young man didn't want to be blind, so he said, "No." The old man asked again, "Then what about selling your hands for some gold(金子)?" The your and shook his head for the second time. At last, the old man said, "Now you understand. You have the most expensive things in the world." So the old man taught both the young man and us a lesson—-health is the most important for us.

    A poor farmer had a friend who was famous for the wonderful apple tees he grew.

    One day, his friend gave the farmer a young apple tree and told him to plant it. The farmer was glad of the gift, but he did not know where to plant it.

    He was afraid that if he planted the tree near the road, strangers(陌生人) would take the fruit. If he planted the tree in one of his fields, his neighbors would come at night and take some of the apples. If he planted the tree near his house, his children would take the fruit. Finally he planted the tree in the deep forest. But without sunlight and good soil(土壤), the tree soon died.

    Later the friend asked the farmer why he had planted the tree in such a poor place. "What' the difference?" the farmer said angrily and then told what he had thought.

    "Yes," said the friend, "but at least someone could have enjoyed the fruit. Now not only no one could enjoy the fruit, but also you have destroyed (毁掉) a good apple tree!"

Poor Sean was very unhappy. His friend told him that Linda was a very clever woman and she knew the answer to everything. So he visited Linda.

"Hello, Sean. What's wrong?" Linda said and smiled at Sean as soon as he came in.

"I have a problem," said Sean. "I feel tired after a day's work. I want to sit on the sofa, read some good books and relax myself. But I can never relax. When I get home, my mother is singing songs. My wife is playing the piano. My kids are fighting. I can never read my book with all the noise."

Linda listened carefully. "Have you got any chickens?" she asked.

Sean looked confused and said, "Yes. I've got two chickens."

"Then bring the chickens into your house." said the clever woman.

Sean did so. When he returned to his house, kids were running after the chickens. His wife was playing the piano and his mother was listening to the radio. Nothing changed. He went to Linda's house again. To his surprise, Linda let him take a goat to the house.

When he came home from work the next day, he couldn't have a rest because his wife was shouting to the kids, the kids were running after the goat, and the goat was scaring the chickens.

Sean couldn't stand it anymore. He ran out of the house and rode to Linda's house once more.

"What can I do?" he asked the woman, "My house is even noisier now!"

Linda smiled, "Take the chickens back to the hen house. Take the goat back to the field."

Sean was very confused and did what the woman told him. When he went back to the house, he sat on the sofa and began to read a book. His mother was singing songs. His wife was playing the piano. His children were fighting. But Sean didn't mind.

I'm a piano teacher. I can feel clearly how talent and hard work affect (影响) my students.

In fact, not everybody (be) good at playing the piano when they came to this world. For example, some of my students just spend two or three months (learn) to play the piano well. But other students need to learn for years. Many of my (talent) students learn faster than I did before. But talent doesn't always bring  good result. When playing the piano seems easy to a student, he or she sometimes  find it boring and then give up (放弃) .And talented students sometimes have other things they enjoy(much), so they give up, too.

Some of my students work very hard. But they still can't play the piano(beautiful). I teach them again and again, and they practice for long. However, it just does not work for these students. In my (eye), it is not necessary to do everything very well. When you really don't have any talent something, the best way is to give up (放弃) .Then you can choose  you are really interested in. And put all your heart into it.
