January 2017
Sunny
Now, it‘'s the year of 2017. New Year 2017 is coming. I have a new plan for the New Year. ……
Hello, everyone. I' m Nancy and I like reading. On road trips, I always take some books to keep myself busy. These are four of my favorite books.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time
This children's book is interesting, exciting, sad and happy all at the same time and makes you think seriously. It tells the story of a 15-year-old boy with autism (自闭症).The book opens a window into his world, his thoughts, his hopes and his dreams.
Matilda
It's now a film and show at the theater, but we can't forget the book. Matilda is about a cute little girl who is very clever and loves to read. She goes to school and meets the very scary Miss Trunchbull but thankfully makes friends with a kind teacher. The book will make you cry one moment and laugh the next.
Charlotte's Web
Charlotte's Web tells the story of friendship (友谊) between a pig and a spider (蜘蛛). It' s a simple story but it teaches us about love, fife and death (死亡). If you haven't read it, give it a try.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
I read the book, watched the film and listened to the tape. The exciting story happens in a place called Namia As you read it, you' ll feel like you're really there. You'll lose yourself in the adventures (冒险经历) of the four children and the characters they meet.

Miya, nine years old, and her six-year-old sister Tiffany were in the swimming pool in the back garden of their house. Their father David was with them. It was a lovely day. There wasn't a cloud in the sky.
Suddenly David shouted. He was in trouble. It was his leg His legs weren't right. He was in pain. Then he was under the water. The girls weren't scared but they were worried. Was it just a joke or was he really in trouble? Twenty seconds later, he was still under the water. Now Miya was scared.
There was no time to wait. In seconds, Miya was under the water with her father. He was heavy but with the help of the water, she was able to pull him to one side of the pool. Now his head was out of the water. He was alive but he wasn't conscious(苏醒).
There was a mobile phone in the house. Tiffany called 911 as quickly as she could. Ten minutes later, doctors came. Soon their father was conscious again. The girls were relieved.
David still doesn't know what was wrong with his legs on that day. But he knows that his daughters were heroes and thanks them every day for saving his life He is a very proud father.
a. David had a problem with his leg. b. David was awake.
c. Tiffany called for help. d. Miya was down to the water.
As a new immigrant (移民) in Australia, I sometimes find it hard to get into the local culture. After reading the book Unpolished Gem (《未经雕琢的宝石》) by Australian writer Alice Pung, I found I am not alone. Pung had the same story as me.
The story is set in Melbourne. Pung's parents are from Cambodia. They have lived in Australia for years. But Pung still has difficulties understanding both cultures.
One is the white Australian culture she lives in. The other is her family's traditional Asian values (价值观). For example, her parents tell her, "You are going to be a lawyer and marry a doctor". This makes Pung want to run away from her life. However, as she argues with her white boyfriend, she knows that traditional Asian values are part of her life. In the end, she happily accepts her own cultural background (背景).
Since Pung lived in her home country for 18 years, it wasn't easy for her to understand Australian culture. I have found that I feel the same way sometimes. In Asian culture, we put a lot of importance on our studies and getting into a good college. But it seems like Western kids are more carefree.
I liked this book because it really shows what it's like to live as an immigrant. I highly recommend (推荐) it to anyone who wants to know what it's like to be an immigrant.

After the exam, the winter vacation is coming. What are you going to do your vacation? I want to have a healthy and relaxing vacation. I think everyone has his own ideas. So do I. First, I want to get up early and choose one kind of sports every day to keep fit. Then I want to help my parents with lots of housework. I hope they can relax as much as possible. After that I would like to celebrate my fifteenth birthday. I may have a party and some of my classmates to come. We'll sing, dance and play games together. , I hope to enjoy the life in the countryside with my grandparents. What about you, my dear friend? What do you plan to do in winter vacation? I'm looking forward to from you soon.
A group of boys stood around a tree." a tall tree!"" They said to each other," "It would be exciting to climb to the top."
The group of boys then wanted to play a game to see who could climb to the top of the tree first. Their mothers were (sit) not far away, looking at their children as they played.
One of the (boy) was an 8-year-old boy named David. He was the (short) in the group. Nobody thought he could win the competition.
Then the game started. All of the boys tried their best. David didn't climb fast first, but he was the first to get to the top in the end.
His mother was proud. She asked, "David, how did you get to the top of the tree so (quick)?"
"It was easy,"" David said, "the other boys were looking when they climbed. They were so afraid they couldn't climb fast. But I was looking up when I climbed. I was happy (find) I was close to the top, so I climbed fast."
It is true in life that we just keep going up and never look back, we will probably make our dreams come true.
