You've probably heard about sports coaches, fitness coaches, voice and music teachers, career counselors(咨询) psychiatrists (精神科医师) and other specialists who teach skills and help us cope with daily life.
But there's a rapidly growing kind of professionals who do a little bit of everything. She or he is called a “ life coach”. People who are at the crossroads in their life, and corporations that want to give certain employees a career boost , are turning to them for help.
The idea that one person's success story can change other people's life for the better goes back at least to the 1930s. Dale Carneigie's famous self-improvement program “ How to Win Friends and Influence People” came along soon thereafter.
But this new style of life coaches includes more than enthusiastic speakers or writers. They use their own experiences in business, sports, military service, or psychotherapy (心理疗法) to help others make critical life decisions. They often give their approaches a slogan, such as “energy coaching” or “fearless living” or “working yourself happy”.
Dave Lakhani in Boise, Idaho, for instance, works with salespeople to develop what he calls a “road map”. He says an ongoing relationship with a coach is like having a personal fitness trainer for one's career and life outside work.
Lakhani's Bold Approach coaching firm also donates some of its time to help people who are anything but successful—including battered (殴打) women and struggling single mothers.
But others in the so-called “helping professions” are not thrilled about the life-coaching movement. They say that anyone, trained or untrained, can call himself or herself a life coach, and that slick(华而不实的) promoters who mess with people's lives can do more harm than good.
A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a hole. When all the other frogs saw how1the hole was, they told the two frogs that they would die soon.
At first, both of the two frogs didn't 2their words and tried their best to jump out of the hole. The other frogs3 telling them to stop, because they thought there was no 4 to jump out of such a deep hole. Finally, one of the frogs believed these words and 5. He fell down and died.
The other frog 6to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs shouted at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally 7. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Don't you hear us?" To their great8, the frog turned out to be 9. He thought they were 10 him all the time, not stopping him.
On a Saturday night at home while relaxing with friends, a dog showed up at the house. In an attempt to find the legal owner and return the dog, we knocked on the door of the legal owner and an old man opened the door. This was the start of an interesting week.
The old man sat down, made himself at home, and gifted us the dog. After a brief visit, he left, and we were now the proud owners of this dog. It takes experience and knowledge to know that our lifestyle can't satisfy the needs of this dog; the owner that gifted us the dog was mismatched for him as well.
Three attempts to return the dog to his old owner failed. (I think he was avoiding us.) Because our lifestyle didn't allow us to give this poor dog the attention he needed, he disturbed the neighbors. They got involved. After we shared the story, they gained a new perspective and wisely stepped in to help us find a solution.
One week later it was decided that dog would be picked up from us by the old neighbor. He would then return it to the previous owner who was more equipped to care for it.
When faced with unexpected challenges in life, it helps to see everyone's perspective. We have to look at one another's perspective to solve a problem with honesty, experience and knowledge. That's the sign of a leader. Although the old neighbor typically has little to do with leadership, it did bring a neighborhood together to understand one another and work as a team to solve a problem.

I have always believed that “Any man can be a father, but it 1 someone special to be a dad.” This is true. Since the2 of my son, Joshua, things have changed a lot in my life, but the3 have been good! My wife and I have been through many4 moments which have made both of us stronger.

We had a discussion on “overnight-fame” last week. Nowadays, many people were crazy about instant fame and wealthy. To be honest, it is not bad be famous or have a lot of money, but I don't agree with the view which people rise to fame overnight. We all know “easy come, easy go”. Let's take Li An as the example. Only after his hard work did he become successful. Or we can list more similar cases if need. What I do believe is that the process in which we try our best. It is we have experienced along the way to success that we treasure and enjoy mostly.
Health is the most important thing in the world.Nothing is more important than health. If one takes away our money, houses, cars, or even our clothes, we can still survive. That is why we always try to eat in a healthy way and exercise often.
How can we keep healthy? In order to eat healthily, I usually avoid eating food high in fat, like French fries or cookies, which are junk foods. Besides, I only eat a little meat.
Taking exercise every day helps us build a strong body.Regular exercise is an important part of keeping me healthy.
What's more, I think friends are important part of one's health. I always feel better when I am with friends than I am alone. When I am with my friends, I always laugh.Laughing is also an important part of health. It is good to stay with my friends.
By eating properly and exercising regularly, I can keep my body at a proper weight and keep healthy.By spending time with my friends, I can keep my mind as well as my body happy. These things sound easy to do, but not many people can manage them.
A.Many studies show that people with a narrow range of social contacts often get sick. B.I think a strong will is necessary if we want to keep healthy. C.On the other hand, doing exercise is very important. D.There are some people who like staying alone, but they keep healthy. E.Some people appear fat because they often eat too much. F.But if our health is taken away, it is certain that we will surely die. G.I eat a lot of vegetables and fresh fruit which are full of vitamins. |
