Learning a new language is never easy—and it will be even more difficult for you to learn it well if you make these three common mistakes below.
You do not practice listening enough.
The same way as how babies learn to speak, we learn a language 1 . listening and repeating what we hear. Language learners need to practice listening. It’s difficult to do it if you don’t live abroad or have language classes. So you need to find a way. There are some interesting ways, such as 2 . to English radio programs and watching English movies or TV show.
You are not curious( 好奇的 )enough.
In language learning, interest the most important. If you 3 . interested in the language you are learning, you may never learn it well no matter how hard you try. If the language itself does not seem interesting to you, try to get to know more about the culture( 文化 ) behind 4 . . The words, phrases and sentences will come back to life 5 . you hear them from the people that are speaking it instead of reading them from books.
You are not brave enough.
It doesn’t matter how well you can write in the language or if you can get good 6 . in a test. To learn, improve, and truly use the language, you need to speak it out loud. “I am really shy.” “I am 7 . that others will laugh at me.” “I get cold feet when I speak in public.”… These are just excuses for not trying. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. The more you practice speaking in front of others, the less difficult it will get.
A wise man said, “You live a new life for every new language you speak. If you know only one language, you live only 8 . . “So stop making these mistakes and try to enjoy the fantastic world the new language brings you!

Our smartphones are amazing, but our connections can be so slow. The future in sci-fi movies seems close, yet so far away. 5G technology makes that future look easily available. Schools, hospitals, transportation, factories — even our homes will soon use this powerful network. 54
Last year, China started testing 5G mobile networks in several cities across network. 55 To test the network, people made a phone call using a Huawei MateX, Huawei’s first 5G smartphone.
What is 5G? It is the latest generation of cellular(蜂窝状的)network technology. 56 5G's advantages mainly come from speed and connectivity. The advantage of higher speed is clear to see. People will be able to use the Internet at a much greater speed than before. Imagine being able to download a movie in just a few seconds. That's how fast 5G will be. 57 For example, scientists are developing driverless cars, but driverless cars must be able to behave quickly when they meet sudden changes in their environment, such as a dog running across the road. 5G will make this possible.
58 With 5G, we may develop "smart" environment. Imagine having a home that turns the lights on when you open your front door. And when you sit on the sofa, the TV set will be turned on under the control of your voice. It seems that everything will be convenient and easy for you in life.
“New things become possible when you can move information as much as possible, and 5G becomes the great giver." Gordon Smith, CEO of a company, told The Telegraph. No matter where it is set up, it looks like 5G will bring us a more exciting and convenient future.
| A.So what about connectivity? B.It is faster and stronger than 4G. C.Such speed helps other technologies, too. D.This example is common in our daily lives. E.Read on to see the ways 5G will change our world. F.The city of Shanghai was the first to set up a 5G network. |

My sister Alli and I have been trying to get people to stop dropping cigarette butts(烟蒂) for seven years.
One day, we were walking in our hometown and saw hundreds of cigarette butts on the ground. 16 They made the town look so ugly that we decided to start a group to make people stop dropping butts. We called it “No Butts About It!”
At first, we drew pictures with “The Earth Is Not Your Ashtray(烟灰缸)” written on them. We put the pictures around our hometown—in parks, by beaches, and along roads.
We wanted to make people understand that dropping butts does harm to the environment. Most smokers don’t think that dropping butts harms the earth. 17
Later, we wrote to companies and asked them for money to help us. We used the money to buy ashtrays to give smokers.
We wanted smokers to carry the ashtrays with them so they didn’t have to drop butts.
At the moment, we are trying to get cigarette companies to put an ashtray in each pack of cigarettes. 18 Many people have started to join our group since it began. 19 And there are even groups in England, Australia and India!
