It took Lucy a moment to understand before asking Scott how to spell fed.
“F-e-e-d? Scott! Fed is spelled f-e-d. But your note says f-e-e-d, telling Dad to feed the dog!”
“So Senator was fed twice?” Dad asked, “But why did he 12 seem hungry?”
“All’s fish that comes to his net!” Lucy looked down at Senator who was wagging his tail. “Let’s see how you like eating Doggie Diet for a month!”
Senator’s tail drooped.
Scott said sorry, “I just wanted to be responsible so I could get a dog for my next 13 .”
“It’s OK. I’ll teach you how to spell to 14 myself for next year’s spelling bee.” Lucy handed Scott the red leash to walk Senator.
“You have a few months to practise before you get one for your birthday.” Dad added.
Scott burst into laughter and reached down to pet Senator 15 .
“Having a little brother isn’t so bad, ” Lucy told Senator, “if you show him who’s b-o-s-s!”

Chinese________ ( 文化 ) has influenced the world for thousands of years.
This summer, Zhengzhou was hit hard by the floods ( 洪灾 ). Some people lost their lives. A lot more lost their homes. In the face of such a difficult time, many Chinese people reached out their hands and helped the people in Zhengzhou to get through it together. Among these helpers, Erke caught many people’s eyes. Although the company was running at a huge loss, it still gave 50,000,000 yuan to help Zhengzhou. As the saying goes, kindness will be paid back. Erke won many Chinese buyers’ trust and respect this year. Thousands of Chinese buyers showed their thanks to Erke by buying its products ( 产品 ).
There is nothing wrong to support the company you love by spending money on it. However, some buyers went too far. The news reported that a man ran away quickly after shopping in an Erke store. Many people thought he ran because he didn’t pay. In fact, he paid 1,000 yuan for the clothes that cost only 500 yuan, and he didn’t want to get back the rest of the money. Many other buyers bought things crazily without thinking about their real needs. One buyer bought 20 pairs of the same kind shoes, none of which was his size, just to show his support for Erke. Some people even complained about the price, “Only 169 yuan for a pair of shoes? Erke should sell its shoes for least 699 yuan each pair.”
In fact, this kind of impulsive and wild shopping can do little to help a company grow into a lifelong popular brand. That is why Mr. Wu, the boss of Erke, has asked people again and again to shop rationally ( 合理地 ).

There are many ways to help improve your health like eating healthy food. Taking exercise and getting medical help. But the easiest and cheapest way to improve your health is just to sleep eight hours or more every night. The general sleeping rule is that the younger you are, the longer sleep you need. But regardless of(不管)age, some people need to sleep more while for some a few hours is enough.
The problem with sleep is that more and more people in the world are not sleeping enough. According to the World Health Organization over half the people in the world may be sleep-deprived. Having less sleep not only makes people feel tired but also causes accidents. In the United States alone, sleepy drivers cause at least 100,000 traffic accidents a year. Also sleep problems can cause medical problems such as high blood pressure(血压).
Why are so many people sleep-deprived? Part of the reasons may be cultural. In the American culture, people put a higher value on work than on sleep. In fact, peopele who sleep a lot are usuallv seen as "lazy". Also, you can sometimes hear some people say proudly that they don’t have much time to sleep. they only sleep four or five hours a night. It seems that the less you sleep, the more work you’ll do.
How do we teach these people to learn the value of sleep? Perhaps they may listen to the advice of Dr. James Maas an expert (专家) in sleep. He says , "Sleep is like a credit (信用卡) card. When you sleep less. you are only borrowing time. You always have to pay it back. The morehours you don’t sleep, the more hours you should t sleep to ‘pay back’ the hours on your ‘sleepcredit card.’"
For those who value work more than sleep, they should listen to what a famous person once said. "Don’t think you will be doing less work because you sleep during the night. That is a foolish(愚蠢的) idea which is held by people who have no imagination. You will be able to do more."

How does fake ‘meat’ taste?
What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “space meat”? It sounds quite weird. But in fact, it could very well be the future of the human diet.
A Russian astronaut recently “grew” meat aboard the International Space Station. Yes, you read that right - he grew it using cells provided by an Israeli company called Aleph Farms. But in fact, he was not the first person to create lab-grown meat. Dutch scientist Mark Post grew the first lab meat in 2013.
But why bother growing meat in a lab when we can get the real thing from cows? For one thing, lab-grown meat is healthier. “We gain greater control over what the meat consists of(由……组成), for example its fat content,” Post said in an interview with The Atlantic. Lab-grown meat is also free of the chemicals that are used on farms, such as pesticides(农药) and growth hormones(激素).
Are there other ways to replace(代替) regular meat? McDonalds is trying to do so with the P.L.T., which stands for plant, lettuce and tomato. The first P.L.T. burgers are already being sold in Canada, according to the fast food company.
The “meat” in the P.L.T. is made out of Beyond Meat, a plant-based meat substitute( 替代品 ) created by a company from Los Angeles, US. The company uses pea, rice and bean proteins to produce patties(肉饼) that look and taste like real meat.
Experts doubt whether these products are healthier than real meat. But they have already proven to be a success, with several fast food companies already offering such products on their menus, according to Fox Business.
