William Butler Yeats, a most famous Irish writer, was born in Dublin on June 13, 1865. His childhood lacked the harmony that was typical of a happy family. Later, Yeats shocked his family by saying that he remembered “little of childhood but its pain”. In fact, he inherited (继承) excellent taste in art from his family-----both his father and his brother were painters. But he finally settled on literature, particularly drama and poetry.
Yeats had strong faith in the coming of new artistic movements. He set himself the fresh task in founding an Irish national theatre in the late 1890s. His early theatrical experiments, however, were not received favorably at the beginning. He didn’t lose heart, and finally enjoyed success in his poetical drama.
Compared with his dramatic works, Yeats’ poems attract much admiring notice. The subject matter includes love, nature, history, time and aging. Though Yeats generally relied on very traditional forms, he brought modern sensibility to them. As his literary life progressed, his poetry grew finer and richer, which led him to worldwide recognition.
He had not enjoyed a major public lift since winning the Nobel Prize in 1923. Yet, he continued writing almost to the end of his life. Had Yeats stopped writing at age 40, he would probably now be valued as a minor poet, for there is no other example in literary history of a poet who produces his greatest works between the ages of 50 and 75. After Yeats’ death in 1939, W.H. Auden wrote, among others, the following lines:
Earth, receive an honored guest:
William Yeats is laid to rest.
Let the Irish vessel(船) lie.
Emptied of his poetry.

The other problem that arises from the employment of women is that of the working wife. It has two aspects: that of the wife who is more of a success than her husband and that of the wife who must rely heavily on her husband for help with domestic tasks. There are various ways in which the impact of the first difficulty can be reduced. Provided that husband and wife are not in the same or directly comparable lines of work, the harsh fact of her greater success can be obscured by a genial conspiracy to reject a purely monetary measure of achievement as intolerably crude. Where there are ranks, it is best if the couple work in different fields so that the husband can find some special reason for the superiority of the lowest figure in his to the most elevated in his wife’s.
A problem that affects a much larger number of working wives is the need to re-allocate domestic tasks if there are children. In The Road to Wigan Pier George Orwell wrote of the unemployed of the Lancashire coalfields: “Practically never ... in a working-class home, will you see the man doing a stroke of the housework. Unemployment has not changed this convention, which on the face of it seems a little unfair. The man is idle from morning to night but the woman is as busy as ever - more so, indeed, because she has to manage with less money. Yet so far as my experience goes the women do not protest. They feel that a man would lose his manhood if, merely because he was out of work, he developed in a ‘Mary Ann’.”
It is over the care of young children that this re-allocation of duties becomes really significant. For this, unlike the cooking of fish fingers or the making of beds, is an inescapably time-consuming occupation, and time is what the fully employed wife has no more to spare of than her husband.
The male initiative in courtship is a pretty indiscriminate affair, something that is tried on with any remotely plausible woman who comes within range and, of course, with all degrees of tentativeness. What decides the issue of whether a genuine courtship is going to get under way is the woman’s response. If she shows interest the engines of persuasion are set in movement. The truth is that in courtship society gives women the real power while pretending to give it to men.
What does seem clear is that the more men and women are together, at work and away from it, the more the comprehensive amorousness of men towards women will have to go, despite all its past evolutionary services. For it is this that makes inferiority at work abrasive and, more indirectly, makes domestic work seem unmanly, if there is to be an equalizing redistribution of economic and domestic tasks between men and women there must be a compensating redistribution of the erotic initiative. If women will no longer let us beat them they must allow us to join them as the blushing recipients of flowers and chocolates.

“YOU’RE too small, Ginny, you’ll never make an Olympic team,” said my first-ever rowing coach, way back in the late winter of 1978. I had just41 my dream. It was sure too big at that point to somebody whose42 not only mattered, but whose emotional support could play a key role.
Then I was just 20, and still a(n)43 athlete. Maybe my dream wasn’t based on reality. After all, I had tried out for the national team for the first time the previous year and been 44 . I lacked the height that most Olympic rowers possess, not to45 much experience as an athlete, and I suffered from asthma, but still, I was shocked by my coach’s response. 46 not just by his choice of words, but by his certainty, I left the gym in a panic.
As I walked, I began to rethink my future, making room for my coach’s opinion, setting47 my dream. A small inner voice had joined forces with the coach’s. “Maybe he’s48 ”
But then, another voice49 . “What does he know? Why does he get to decide?” That my own coach didn’t have faith in me didn’t mean I had to give up on myself so quickly. By the time I arrived back at my apartment, I was 50 my coach. And my51 was back on center stage.
_52 came easy when it came to fulfilling that dream. I tried out for two more national teams and two different coaches cut me.
But I was driven by my love of the53 of rowing. I wanted to row54 the best and I refused to stop until I achieved my goal.
I made that 1980 team,55 not getting to compete at the Olympics. I kept training four more years, and56 won silver at the 1984 Olympics.
All the effort was worth it. Everything I have today is a result of57 that dream, all those hours on the water and in the stadium. They got me here,58 I know now that big ambitions need not just time to develop, but firm59 in them. If I’m not going to be my own60 for my dreams, no one else will. And I will not allow anyone else to decide for me what’s possible.

Robots are being used for the first time in hospitals. “ Robot-nurses ” perform a variety of tasks each as delivering medicine t food and laboratory samples to sickrooms and taking away waste. Patients aren't treated by robots, as this is still done by medical staff. The idea is to employ robots to transport supplies between departments.
“ Nurses often have to break off from what they are doing to gather supplies,” says Peter Seiff , who makes the robots called TUGs. Research shows any interruption in medical work can lead Lo errors—a nurse may forget whether she has given medicine and may give a patient double the dose (剂量)or none at all.
The robots vary in size according ta what job they perform ? but normally take the shape of a metal box on wheels, with a box on the side containing their software.
After being programmed, the robots are able to find their way around a hospital unassisted. They also contain scanning technology to create electronic pictures or a “ memory ” of routes of routes on hard drives to help them go through passages, doors and other obstacles. Each robot is also monitored at the producer's headquarters (总部)in case it runs into any difficulties.
Trials show TUGs reduce the time it takes for a patient to receive medicine, and stop drugs from going missing. A study at the University of Maryland Medical Centre in the U.S. found that when three TUGs were used over the course of a year, the average length of time from the drugstore receiving a prescription to the patient receiving ii dropped from 74 minutes to 30 minutes and saved nurses 6,123 hours finding medicines. It also cut the number of medicines that went missing to zero.
“The biggest complaints we receive from patients is that the noises don’t spend enough time with them. Anything that frees nurses is a boon,” says Katherine Mulligan f director of nursing at the hospital, “The TUGs allow nurses to spend more time focusing on patient care. Nurse satisfaction has improved. ”

Cleverness is a gift while kindness is a choice. Gifts are easy—they’re given after all. Choices can be hard.
I got the idea to start Amazon 16 years ago. I came across the fact that the Internet usage was growing at 2,300 percent per year. I’d never seen or heard of anything that grew that fast, and the idea of building an online bookstore with millions of titles was very exciting to me. I had just turned 30 years old, and I’d been married for a year. I told my wife Mac kenzie that I wanted to quit my job and go to do this crazy thing that probably wouldn’t work since most start-ups don’t and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Mac kenzie told me I should go for it. As a young boy, I’d been a garage inventor. I’d always wanted to be an inventor, and she wanted me to follow my passion.
I was working at a financial firm in New York City with a bunch of very smart people and I had a brilliant boss that I much admired. I went to my boss and told him I wanted to start a company selling books on the Internet. He took me on a long walk in Central Park, listened carefully to me, and finally said, “That sounds like a really good idea, but it would be an even better idea for someone who didn’t already have a good job.” That logic made some sense to me, and he convinced me to think about it for 48 hours before making a final decision. Seen in that light, it was really a difficult choice, but finally, I decided I had to give it a shot. I didn’t think I’d regret trying and failing. And I suspected I would always be haunted (萦绕) by a decision to not try at all.
After much consideration, I took the less safe path to follow my passion, and I’m proud of that choice. For all of us, in the end, we are our choice.

In today’s society, a college degree tells little about what you know in comparison to what it tells about what you can learn. For instance, the IT world is constantly changing. Anything you learn today will probably be useless in a few short years. The point is to learn to learn.
Blogging works exactly the same way. And I believe this to be true regardless of your end goal. If you’re trying to make money, this is abundantly clear. There’s always more money to be made. If you’re teaching on a subject, you are constantly looking for new information to share. Even if you’re just sharing your words with others for pleasure, you’re continuously improving your writing and storytelling, so people don’t get bored of you.
This is one of the reasons that bloggers burn out. They forget this. They think they have an unlimited amount of content just waiting to burst from their brain. They get comfortable. Then they start to run out of juice. Sure, at times it seems that some bloggers just have it. They are experts in their fields and will simply feed us with invaluable content forever. But this is not true. Pay attention. Even famous bloggers would run out of content eventually without constant learning.
The point is apparent. Don’t think you’ve succeeded. There are plateaus(停滞时期),but there are no peaks. What happens when someone thinks they’ve hit the peak? They quickly begin sliding down the other side. Always be learning from your experiences. See what posts work for your readers. Which get the best response? Which are completely ignored? Which bring in the most Google traffic, or get the most Absence clicks? Don’t settle or your blog will close for good eventually.
