高二英语下学期下册试题

Every single human being on this planet has a path and purpose to fulfill, whether they realize it or not.   36

List what you love and connect the dots.    37    It may not make sense at first, but all of the things you enjoy doing are part of your path in one form or another, so grab a pen and a piece of paper and start writing. Once you have your list, take a step back and see how all these brilliant pieces might connect to the work you are meant to do.

Identify what you do with ease. Often our passion and purpose are staring us right in the face, but it’s so natural to us that we don’t think anything about it.    38    Just because they are easy for you doesn’t mean that’s the case for everyone else. By identifying what comes naturally to you, you have the ability to build on your strengths and help others in ways you never thought possible.

39   Finding your passion is directly related to doing the things that light you up and set your soul on fire. If you love to teach, run, and host live events, then please, do them all! Who says your life purpose has to be just one thing? You are meant to experience life and all that it has offered.

Ask others to help. If you are still feeling stuck in finding your passion and purpose in life, it might be time to ask others for help. It can be difficult for you to see where you truly shine because you are simply too close to connecting the dots on your own. Friends, family members and professionals have a view that you don’t.    40

 A. Do what makes you happy.

 B. Find what you do with ease.

 C. Don’t overlook the things that are easy for you.

 D. They can help you to see things within yourself.

 E. You cannot count on others to help you completely.

 F. Here are ways to find your passion and purpose from now on.

 G. Identifying the things you love is the best way to find your passion and purpose.

The first day we go to high school, our head teacher told us the news which we needed to take the military training. We were all shocking at the news, because of it was so hot outside. How terribly it was! The next day, we met our training instructor, who were young and handsome. He was strict, but humorous, telling him jokes when we rested. At night, he asked us to sing military songs. We even competed with other teams. The days of the military trainings were beautiful ,and we found a training was not that hard. We became stronger and made friends to our military instructor.

Several weeks ago I was at a bus station in California waiting in line to buy a ticket. As I stood there I saw a little boy    61    (beg) people for money so that he could buy his breakfast. Most of the travelers simply ignored the little boy or gave him a dirty look,   62   a well-dressed middle-aged man reacted differently. When    63    (approach) by the little boy, the gentleman looked at him and    64    (quiet) asked, “How much will you need?” I couldn’t hear what the little boy said but watched as the gentleman pulled several notes from his wallet and calmly placed    65    in the little boy’s hands.

I don’t know    66    the little boy actually used the money for his breakfast or for other    67    (purpose). What I do know is that I witnessed two different reactions   68  the same situation. I saw people who were either afraid or annoyed. And then I saw the gentleman who was not afraid and treated the homeless little boy as though he were a brother. I decided then and there that, even though we have to be    69    (care) in this world, I would rather I   70   (behave) like the gentleman, choosing to trust what is beautiful.

I live in the land of DisneyHollywood and yearround sunYou may think people in such a glamorousfunfilled place are happier than othersIf soyou have some mistaken ideas about the nature of happiness

Many intelligent people still equate happiness with funThe truth is that fun and happiness have little or nothing in commonFun is what we experience during an actHappiness is what we experience after an actIt is a deepermore abiding emotion

Going to an amusement park or ball gamewatching a movie or televisionare fun activities that help us relaxtemporarily forget our problems and maybe even laughBut they do not bring happinessbecause their positive effects end when the fun ends

I have often thought that if Hollywood stars have a role to playit is to teach us that happiness has nothing to do with funThese richbeautiful individual have constant access to glamorous partiesfancy carsexpensive homeseverything that spells"happiness"But in memoir after memoircelebrities reveal that unhappiness hidden beneath all their fundepressionalcoholismdrug addictionbroken marriagestroubled children and profound loneliness

Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfyingIf he's honesthe will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitmentFor commitment is in fact quite painfulThe single life is filled with funadventure and excitementMarriage has such momentsbut they are not its most distinguishing features

Similarlycouples that choose not to have children are deciding in favor of painless fun over painful happinessThey can dine out whenever they want and sleep as late as they wantCouples with babies are lucky to get a whole night's sleep or a threeday vacationI don't know any parent who would choose the word fun to describe raising childrenHoweverthey all feel blessed to have children

Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations we can ever come toIt liberates timenow we can devote more hours to activities that can genuinely increase our happinessIt liberates moneybuying that new car or those fancy clothes that will do nothing to increase our happiness now seems pointlessAnd it liberates us from envywe now understand that all those rich and glamorous people we were so sure are happy because they are always having so much fun actually may not be happy at all

8Which of the following can be inferred from the passage

AFun creates longlasting satisfaction

BFun provides enjoyment while pain leads to happiness

CHappiness is enduring whereas fun is shortlived

DFun that is longstanding may lead to happiness

9To the authorHollywood stars all have an important role to play that is to

Awrite memoir after memoir about their happiness

Btell the public that happiness has nothing to do with fun

Cteach people how to enjoy their lives

Dbring happiness to the public instead of going to glamorous parties

10Couples having babies

Aare lucky since they can have a whole night's sleep

Bfind fun in tucking them into bed at night

Cfind more time to play and joke with them

Dgain happiness from their endeavor

11If one gets the meaning of the true sense of happinesshe will

Astop playing games and joking with others

Bmake the best use of his time increasing happiness

Cgive a free hand to money

Dkeep himself with his family

It all comes back to attitude!

If you want to be happy you must take responsibility and stop expecting things or people to make you happy. You are the source of your own happiness, so stop looking elsewhere 36________Here are a few ways for you to follow:

Be thankful to others.37________ It is too easy to take those around us for granted.Show them the same consideration you would like shown to you.

38________ This goes beyond politeness; It is a form of giving.Treat everyone you meet as if they have a big sign on their body saying “Make me feel important.” If you do this you will discover a hidden source of joy.

Perform acts of kindness. Don’t wait to be asked. 39_______ It doesn’t need to be a big thing, hold the door for a stranger, or smile at anyone you meet. Look for opportunities to make others feel good.

Make a decision to be happy. This is the most important step on the road to a happy life.40 ________ You are the key to your own happiness, so go ahead and unlock it .

We often close ourselves off when unfortunate events happen in our lives. We try to forget the pain by pretending it doesn’t exist, but although we can try all this we want, in the end, we can’t hide from ourselves.    7    Here are some ways you can open your heart more fully.

1. Breathe into pain

Whenever a painful situation arises, try to accept it instead of running away.   8    By using our breath we soften our experiences.

2. Embrace the uncomfortable

9    We know how fear feels in our bodies: the tension in our necks, the tightness in our stomachs, etc. We can face these feelings of discomfort and let them show us where we need to go.

3. Spend time alone

For most of our lives we’re surrounded by people: our friends, colleagues, peers, family members, loved ones, and strangers. How often do we really spend time alone?    10    You can truly open yourself and explore whatever you’d like. The golden ticket here is not to let yourself become distracted; just see what it’s like to be alone.

4. Get outside of yourself

This may seem a little contradictory to the last tip.    11    After you’ve explored the depths of yourself, you come away with a new understanding. Now, it’s time to share that — not through telling others, but through being with others.

A. We all know what anxiety feels like.

B. However, in reality they work hand in hand.

C. We need to learn to open our hearts to the potential of life.

D. When the sadness strikes, take a deep breath and face up to it.

E. You’ll add a new layer of depth and understanding into your life.

F. Lose yourself in the beauty of others; see what they can teach you about yourself.

G. When you spend time in solitude (独自) you’re free from the influences of other people.

The scientist from the Lockheed Space Company work in Felton, California, with the help of a computer. But the computer is placed in Sunnyside, about 80 kilometers away. What scientists input is sent by telephone lines to the computer, and after a time, copies of the designs are needed back in Felton as quickly as possible Lockheed people have tried several ways of sending the prints, but the most effective seems to be by pigeon. Are pigeons really used to carry messages in these days? They are, and they send the prints faster and cheaper than any other way.
Human messengers are much more expensive and slower than the pigeons. The road to Felton goes through the mountains, and the driving is not easy. An electronic printout (
电子打印输出) system could do the work in Felton, but at a cost of 10 dollars a print. Pigeons carry the designs for about 1 dollar each.

Are Your Clothes Causing Pollution?

Very small pieces of plastic, called microfibers, are polluting rivers and oceans. 36 Clothes worn for outdoor activities and exercise are often made of artificial material, which is useful in keeping warm. But they contain very small plastic fibers, which may also be harming the environment when you wash them. When people wash these clothes, very small pieces go down the drain (下水道) with the wash water.

___37____

Pollution caused by plastic is not new, but recent studies have shown the effect of microfibers in the environment.

Studies show very small microfibers are ending up in our waters, which may come from waste water treatment factories. A 2015 study found them in fish from California.

Microfibers, effect on food supplies.

Beyond the waterways, the researchers say microfibers may end up in soil and agricultural lands. __38__ This means there is much to be learned about microfibers and the environment. Some studies have shown that microfibers end up inside sea animals, like oysters. ___39___ Researchers say that the fibers tend not to move into the tissue of the fish, but it needs more study.

Steps to save or keep microfibers from the environment.

Until more information becomes known, there are steps to take to reduce the amount of microfibers in the environment. People should use less of the artificial materials. If we already have those in our lives and we’re using them, an important step would be washing them less.___40 ___A bag is being designed in which to wash these clothes. It traps the microfibers in the bag and it may be available for purchase soon.

A. New technology may also help.

B. Studies on microfibers in the environment.

C. They can also move around the atmosphere.

D. Studies on how much of the microfibers is released.

E. The source of these microfibers may surprise you: your clothes.

F. Washing machines keep microfibers from escaping with wash water.

G So if these microfibers have been found in fish and seafood, are they safe to eat?

I suffered a lot from the experience of dying eight times during my coma and I couldn't open my mouth to talk or to communicate when I eventually came around. At that time,it seemed that walking was never going to happen again due to all the extreme injuries.Just like my body,my dreams were completely destroyed. But I was not going to let my injuries stop me from realizing my dreams.

The Lost Rules of Etiquette

Etiquette,or good manners, used to be the glue that held society together._16_Sadly,these days it has mostly gone by the wayside. This list is several best rules of etiquette that have now disappeared.

Opening the Door

In days gone by,a gentleman would always open doors for ladies._17_This has now almost entirely disappeared and it is not entirely the fault of the men.I have seen women laugh at men for opening a door for them. They seem to be confusing manners with chauvinism(大男子主义).

Writing Thank-You Notes

In days gone by,whenever a person received a gift, they would write a thank-you note as soon as possible._18_ Parents would sit children down after a birthday or Christmas and coach them in their first thank-you note.It is a shame that gift giving has now become a virtual obligation and the idea of a thank-you note would be laughed at.

_19_

We seem to have completely lost the concept of correct timing when it comes to parties these days._20_After all,a party normally has a guest of honor-this is usually the oldest woman present. It was considered extremely rude in the past to leave a party before the guest of honor-and once the guest of honor left,it was a signal to all that they should begin their own preparations to leave.
