Subject:An Inquiry of the Alert Service
Good afternoon,
I am writing to request more information on your new Automated Alert Service,as advertised on your Website. I have had both personal and commercial accounts with Citizens’ Bank for many years. Often, I find it necessary to move money between accounts. Because of this, it is vital that I keep a close eye on the cash flow of all of my accounts,to assure that their balances stay above the required minimums. Therefore, I have been searching for an economical means of keeping better track of my finances. I was considering purchasing software for this purpose, but I think that your new service might be a convenient alternative.
My first question concerns the timeliness of the notifications. When you say “instantly” ,does that relate only to banking hours? For example,if my wife were to use our debit card (借记卡)on a Sunday afternoon to make a transfer (转账)at an ATM, would I be informed via email instantly or on Monday morning? My second question is in regard to the information available in this service. Is it possible to be aware of any information in my monthly bank statement, such as interest on my savings account? Finally,I would like to know the cost of this service.
Please send me this information as soon as possible. If necessary, you can contact me in the evenings at 225-782-0902.
R. Renfield

It is good to make mistakes, and here's why.
__36___ It's always good to try new things because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try anything new, how can you improve, how can you expand, and how can you innovate? The simple answer is “You can't”. ___37__ With very few exceptions, everything you see in your physical world is The result of someone trying something new. Every single detail of every single thing is the result of someone trying something new. The chair you're sitting on; the fabric on the chair; the pattern on the fabric on the chair; the dye in thepattern on the fabric on the chair are all the direct result of someone trying something new.
___38__ Consider this: Edison failed l0 000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times, he remarked that he hadn't failed t0 00~ times, but rather had learned I0 000
things that didn't work.
Finally, when you make a mistake you are that much closer to success. Why?
Because when all is said and done, you will have tried some finite number of things before you succeed.
___39_
___40__ Quite the contrary, when you try something new you have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that, in the event that it doesn't work out the way you want it to, you will be in a position to try again.
There is an old axiom that goes, “if you're not making mistakes, you're not trying hard enough.”
So go forth and make mistakes, and learn, and grow, and prosper.
A. First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things.
B. Look around you.
C. Another good thing about mistakes is this: when you are making mistakes, you are learning.
D. Every time you made a mistake you eliminated one of those things and are one step closer.
E. But this all doesn't mean that you should forge ahead with disregard for the consequences of a mistake.
F. Only by embracing and using your mistakes in this way can you make significant advances in your business and your career.
G. Can you imagine how many mistakes were made before all of these individual materials and components were perfected and then assembled into the automobiles we know today?
You feel happiest when you create a healthy balance between giving and receiving. If you give and give without making time to fill your own needs, then it's likely you will burn out, or feel upset. When you take and take without giving anything back, you never feel fulfilled, so you are always searching for ways to fill the void in your life.
The way to create a healthy balance between giving and receiving is to know and then live by your values. I break values up into two groups which I call being values and having values. Your being values are the personalities of the ideal person you would like to be. I suggest to my clients that they choose three being values that they are willing to make a promise to live by. An example of some being values are: kind, loving, generous, peaceful, wise and even powerful. By acting on these values you give' to others through your actions and you inspire others by being a positive role model. Mastering being these personalities becomes your life purpose.
Your having values are the feelings you need to create in order to be happy. These could be companionship, achievement, support, being valued or financial security. This is what you receive. You take responsibility for filling your own needs by taking steps to create these feelings and conditions in your life.
When you make a promise to live by your being values, it becomes easier to make conscious (慎重的) choices rather than reactionary (反动的) ones. If your usual pattern is to talk about your problems, you could choose to think and act like a calm person. A calm person might go for a walk, or set a time limit before responding. If your usual pattern is to worry, you could choose to act like a responsible or wise person. In other words, you would act like the person you choose to be—this is the key to personal power.
When you choose to act on your values, you will not only feel good about yourself, but also strengthen your chosen beliefs. Over time, acting in this way changes how you see the world, and in turn the way other people think of you.
24. The main purpose of this passage is to .
A. persuade the readers to make a promise
B. explain to the readers what personal values are
C. inform the readers how to be truly happy
D. instruct the readers how to make wise choices
25. According to the text, living by your being values, you would .
A. gain a lot of power B. form positive personality
C. seek all human virtues D. fill your own needs
26. The underlined word "void" in Paragraph l means .
A. a feeling of emptiness B. an absence of one's mind
C. a break of continuity D. a state of confusion
27. What can be inferred from the text?
A. Having values are better than being values.
B. A calm person does not choose to complain.
C. The way other people think of you decides who you are.
D. A responsible person does not care about financial security.

I still remember how nervously I was on my first day in the new school three years before. I found it how difficult to follow my teacher in first English class. She spoke in English throughout the class, that was totally different as the lessons I had taken before. In the morning class the next day, my English teacher came to me while she was reading the text aloud. After listen to me for a while, she gave me a big smile and said she like my voice very much. The smile shone on the whole day and for several day. Thanks to the smile, I began to be confident.
People often say you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and that's actually quite true. 36 After all, making a good first impression is all about making others feel good when spending time with them. The following tips will help you make a positive impression every time.
● Dress appropriately
37 That means dressing up or putting on nice, clean, situation-appropriate clothes for social situations. It isn't difficult and it doesn't have to cost you much, either.
● Be aware of your body language
Words express very little of what you say.Body language can tell someone a lot about your mood and confidence level. 38 Eye contact is an easy way to make others feel comfortable, important and special.Nervous body language can make others uncomfortable and anxious.Try to be aware of your body language when communicating with others.
● Respect the opinions of others
Not everyone will have the same opinion with you, and friendly disagreements can be a gateway to a great conversation. Respect other people's right to have their own opinion.Respect the opinions of others even if you disagree with them. 39
● 40
People love talking about themselves, but generally, you want to be careful of taking over the conversation.By listening carefully to what others are saying, you are not only making them feel important, but you can gather cues you need to keep the conversation going and bridge to new topics.
A.Be a careful listener.
B.Show an interest in every person you meet.
C.Smile especially when first meeting someone.
D.Make sure you look nice whenever you meet someone new.
E.Meeting new people and starting conversations is often challenging.

The holiday season isn’t just about shopping and gifts.____16_____ However, holiday travel can be more expensive than the gifts. Fortunately, the following tips will help keep your travel spending under control.
● Plan ahead. The earlier you book your travel, from airfare to hotels, the easier it is to find good deals. _____17____Your best prices on airfare come when you book three weeks before the plane leaves for domestic flights. For international flights, consider booking 30 days in advance. Many experts point out that you should book travel between one month and three months out for high-traffic holidays.
● Book your air travel on cheaper days. Traveling by air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays often costs less than traveling on Fridays and Sundays. During the holidays, it is not just about a specific day of the week. You also need to consider the days surrounding the holiday but days immediately before and after a holiday can be expensive. One of the best ways to save is to plan your air travel on the Day of the holiday.____18_____
● Consider traveling overnight. Red-eye flights and overnight flights often cost less than those at more convenient times.______19______Traveling overnight can help you avoid a night in the hotel, as well as save your money on travel to your destination.
●_____20______ You can’t bring liquids with you on the airline, but you can bring sandwiches and other snacks. When you are on the road, you can buy food at local groceries to make your own meals. If you are staying in a hotel long-term, consider cooking your own food, especially if you have access to a microwave.
A. Bring your own food.
B. Consider affordable accommodations.
C. Traveling by plane is not the best choice.
D. Plus, booking earlier can save you money.
E. For instance, traveling on Christmas Day might be a great deal.
F. A great deal of travel also takes place during this time of year.
G. Other alternatives include sleeper trains, as well as overnight ferries.

My dream is to become a school teacher in the future. In fact, I had the dream of becoming a teacher since my childhood. In my opinion, without teachers, no society could make progresses. There is no doubt whether teachers play an important role in children growth. Not only do teachers pass on knowledge for children, but they also teach children how to behave themselves. Comparing with other jobs, teaching is hard and the pay is lower. And to me, what great fun it is to be with children! They make me to feel young forever because I’ll study harder and try my best to realize my dream.

Over the past few decades, more and more countries have opened up their markets, increasingly 16 the world economy into one free-flowing global market. The question is: Is economic globalization 17 for all?
According to the World Bank, one of its chief supporters, economic globalization has helped reduce 18 in a large number of developing countries. It quotes one study that shows increased wealth 19 to improved education and longer life in twenty-four developing countries as a result of integration (融合)of local economies into the world economy. Home to 20 three billion people, these twenty-four countries have seen incomes 21 at an average rate of five percent 22 to two percent in developed countries.
Those who 23 globalization claim that economies in developing countries will benefit from new opportunities for small and home-based businesses. 24 , small farmers in Brazil who produce nuts that would originally have sold only in 25 open-air markets can now promote their goods worldwide by the Internet.
Critics take a different view, believing that economic globalization is actually 26 gap between the rich and poor. A study 27 by the U.N.-sponsored World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalization shows that only a few developing countries have actually 28 from integration(融合)into the world economy and that the poor, the uneducated, unskilled workers, and native peoples have been left behind. 29 , they maintain that globalization may eventually threaten emerging businesses. For example, Indian craftsmen who currently seem to benefit from globalization because they are able to 30 their products may soon face fierce competition that could put them out of 31 . When large-scale manufacturers start to produce the same goods, or when superstores like Wal-Mart 32 , these small businesses will not be able to 33 and will be crowded out.
One thing is certain about Globalization—there is no 34 . Advances in technology combined with more open policies have already created an interconnected world. The 35 now is finding a way to create a kind of globalization that works for the benefit of all.
