高二英语上学期上册试题

You often find somebody who works around you complaining all the time, don’t you?  71   About 70% of Americans say being around nonstop complainers sometimes has a bad influence on them. Luckily, here are 4 tips to help form positive patterns.

1. Self-awareness

When a negative thought pops into your mind, immediately correct it. Instead of telling yourself “That’s a nice shirt, but I can’t afford it,” change the message to “That will look great with my black pants when I can afford it.”   72

Of course, everyone complains sometimes. But the less frequently you complain, the better you will feel.

2. Distance yourself

73   Excuse yourself and go somewhere quiet, somewhere outdoors in the fresh air. Think of something pleasant before returning. You have to take this seriously because negative people can and will pull you into the quicksand(困境).

3. Don’t try to change complainers

If you find yourself trapped in a group of complainers in a meeting or at a social event, simply choose silence. Let their words bounce off you while you think of something else. Attempting to stop the complaining can make you a target.   74   If someone says, “I hate Mondays, weekends are too short,” try to think, “I’m glad I rested up over the weekend, so I’m ready to make some improvement on that big project.”

4.    75

When someone is shouting at you angrily, throw the responsibility back at them by asking, “So what do you intend to do about it?” In most cases, complainers don’t really want a solution. They just want to speak them out. If you make them aware that they themselves have to find the solutions, they will leave you alone and find someone else to complain to. If so, you will be happy.

 A. Find solutions

 B. Change responsibility

 C. You have got a lot of company.

 D. By doing this, it will lead to positive behaviors.

 E. But you can redirect the discussion in your own mind.

 F. Whenever possible, escape from negative conversations.

 G. You will never know what they are going to talk about.

My Opinion on Cheating in Examinations

It is known to us all that some students cheat in examinations at school.

Golf has always prides itself on its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and conventional ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decades, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percentage of the existing 25 million golfers tending to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially rejected the game, saying it takes too long to play, too difficult to learn and has too many tiresome rules.

Many of golf’s leaders are so convinced the sport is in danger of following the baby boomer generation (born between the years 1946 and 1964) into the grave that they start an alternative movement leading to unconventional forms of golf with new equipment, new rules and revolutionary changes to courses.

Among the unconventional types of golf is an entry-level version in which the holes are 15 inches wide, about four times the width of a standard one. A 15-inch-hole event was held here at the Reynolds Plantation resort on Monday. It featured the top professional golfers Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose.

“A 15-inch-hole could help junior golfers, beginning golfers and older golfers score better, play faster and like golf more,” said Garcia.

Rose said he was planning to use an expanded hole to reintroduce the game to his five-year-old son, who rejected the game recently after he had grown tired of failing at it.

Golf still ranks among the US’s top 10 recreational sports activities, and given its tradition, it is no surprise that all golfers don’t agree with the alternative movement.

“I don’t want to reform the game and cheapen it,” said Curtis Strange, a two-time United States Open Champion and an analyst for ESPN. “I don’t like any of that staff. And, it’s not going to happen, either. It’s all talk.”

But Ted Bishop, the president of the PGA of America, argues that it is those purists’ worry that has held the sport back for 20 years. “I went to a golf club’s 125th anniversary dinner not long ago, and the absolute majority of the people in the room were over 55,” said Bishop. “We should be asking, ‘on that club’s 150th anniversary, who’s going to attend?’”

28. According to the passage, golf ________.      .

  A. is unpopular among the young people            B. has 20, 000,000 golf players now

  C. has caused too much trouble to people            D. is developing rapidly over the years

29. The golf leaders in favor of an alternative movement ________.     .

  A. hope to attract more elder golf players                               B. feel worried about the game’s future

  C. experience rejection from all the golfers                              D. decide to improve security on the golf course

30. what do we learn about the golf event held on Monday?

  A. It was set up especially for young children.        B. It proved to be more difficult to play than usual.

  C. It used holes much wider than the standard ones.    D. It was a practical experiment of the traditional golf.

31. Which of the following can describe Ted Bishop’s attitude towards reforming golf?

  A. Opposite           B. Indifferent         C. Critical       D. Supportive

My 11-year-old son and I ride bikes to and from his school every day. I accompany him on the 20-minute ride through Manhattan, drop him off and return at the end of day to pick him up. We always ride together; sometimes he leads; sometimes I do. And as we ride, we communicate the ways to minimize the dangers: Don’t go too fast, and watch out for doors suddenly swinging out from parked cars and jaywalking pedestrians, etc. Some friends worry about the risk of riding in traffic, but is there a better way to let my son know how to deal with traffic dangers?

But recently he requested me to start hanging back a half block or so. This way he could enjoy the feeling of riding on his own, with the security of knowing that I was nearby in case he needed me. This is healthy, of course, as my son needs space to develop independence in preparation for his inevitable (不可避免的) departure from home. However, that means soon he will want to ride to school on his own, and I will no longer have this wonderful routine. “Let your children go if you want to keep them.” I understand this and am trying to let my son go in age-appropriate phases, but I still suffer. It’s one of the most troubling experiences of parenthood — recognizing that your presence is becoming less welcome.

My dilemma as a husband mirrors the concern I feel as a parent. My wife has just left on a six-month mission to cover the situation in Libya. In the days leading up to her departure, we spoke openly about the possibility, however unlikely, that she might be killed. But while I influence her decisions, I do not control them. Finally, it was her decision. I know that letting go is the wisest path in this case too.

As we travel through life’s phases, we must let go of so much. And I don’t think it gets easier with practice. But maybe just accepting that eventually we will have to let go is the secret to living a full life.

  A. regrets not giving his son enough space        B. feels upset for being rejected by his son

To me , everyone has at least one talent, and while it sometimes takes you a lifetime to find, it does exist.

One sunny afternoon in 1953, we went out to the school’s playground for our gym class. The teacher taught us various track and field events . I was a loser in all of them. Then came the javelin(标枪). Finally ,when everyone had a chance to throw, the longest throw went about 30 yards. Now it was my turn. I raised the javelin over my head, took six quick steps and let it go . I watched as the javelin took off. As it went past the 50-yard mark, it was still going. Then people began cheering. Nobody could believe what little Orowitxz had just done.

The very next day I began practicing with it , and every day that summer –for six hours or more---I would throw it in a nearby schoolyard. With an eye to the Olympics, I continued to work out until one day I could go into a college. But not warming up properly, I tore some tissues in my left shoulder, so I gave up my dream of attending the Olypics.

Several years later, a co-worker, who was a hopeful actor, asked for help in learning his part. When I began reading the script(剧本) , the same kind of fascination that took hold of me when I picked up the javelin appeared. Immediately I attended an acting school. That led to small parts in movies, which at last led me to another area-----directing.

I feel strongly that we must keep our minds open; we can’t let ourselves be discouraged or depressed when the talent doesn’t readily appear. Yet when it does, we must be prepared to get hold of it right away.

24. What did we know about the writer in 1953?

A. He found his true talent.

B. He was bad at all the subjects.

C. Many of his classmates didn’t like him.

D. He decided to choose a career in acting.

25.Why did the writer give up his dream of attending the Olympics?

A.Because he didn’t get prepared.

B. Because he was more interested in acting.

C. Because he got injured in the left shoulder.

D. Because he lost interest in throwing the javelin.

26. When the writer wrote the text, he was probably a(n)______.

A.teacher B.actor C. director D. athlete

27. What doesn’t the writer probably agree?

A.Everyone has a talent although it’s hard to find it sometimes.

B. The joy of finding something that one can do makes one try his best.

C. One should be patient and active even if the talent doesn’t appear.

D. One can find his true talent only after suffering some failures.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I read your advertisement in the newspaper and ______________

While the other kids seemed excited about celebrating the end-of-term party by playing games and sharing treats, Jeremy hated the very idea of the gathering.

Afraid to raise the pressure too high, I decided to contribute something that was easy to purchase on the walk to school.

Off we went the day of the party, approaching his school as if nothing was planned. I reminded him of our need to make a purchase, entered his favorite shop, and asked him to select the ripest bunch of grapes. He shot me an anxious look and insisted none of his classmates ever be able to notice he had something to bring to the party. My vision of a successful parenting method, resulting in delivering a sociable child to his school, diverted(转移)sharply from reality.

Back on route, I did my best to hide the sinking feeling of fear. How could I possibly drop him off and then walk into my own classroom to teach a successful class?

My next move was born in the heat of the moment. I said a quick goodbye at the front gate and rushed to his classroom through the emergency exit. I managed to inform his teacher about the grapes in the backpack and be out of the classroom before I could be spied by my son.

So, what happened on that June day? His teacher, a caring educator, worked wonders. My son and I still laugh about the way Mr. B started the day with an unusual question, “Does anyone have any grapes?” While Jeremy admits feeling a bit uncomfortable, the words encouraged him to takeout the fruit. Because of the support he received, he remembers that day with pride for his courage.

25. Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “vision” in Paragraph 3?      A. Imagination.     B. Research.       C. Understanding.       D. Use.

26. How did the author feel when she left the shop?

A. Grateful.       B. Satisfied.      C. Worried.            D. Regretful.

27. Why did the author hurry to her son’s classroom?

A. She went there to give her lesson.

B. She went to ask the teacher for help.

C. She was afraid of her son being punished.

D. She was invited to take part in the celebration.

28. What does the passage mainly talk about?

A. The teacher inspired Jeremy to share grapes.

B. Jeremy prepared for the coming party.

C. The author taught Jeremy to select goods.

D. The author helped Jeremy to become sociable.

It is recommended that one of the effective ways to make your English writing skills improved should be keeping a diary.

61  (compare) with other form of writing it takes   62   (little) time as well as being shorter. It is   63   (general) recognized that you will get to learn how to express yourself in English if you insist on practising. Apparently you may meet with   64   good many difficulties at times. The  trouble is     65   you can not find appropriate words and phrases to give expression to your mind. In addition, there are lots of idiomatic ways of Chinese appearing in your diary.

66  my point of view, a piece of good advice is that there should be no  67  way more suitable than keeping a notebook and an English dictionary within easy reach. Whenever something    68   (beat) you, put   69   down and then consult the dictionary. Certainly you can get help from your English teacher if necessary. I’m sure it is of great use to keep a diary in English for the   70  (improve) of writing abilities.

Some researchers, parents and teachers have suggested that high-school classes begin later in the morning to accommodate (适应) teens’ needs for more sleep.    36    However, in the meantime you’ll have to make your own adjustments. Here are some suggestions that may help you to sleep better.

Set a regular bedtime. Going to bed at the same time each night signals to your body that it’s time to sleep.    37    So try to stick as closely as you can to your sleep schedule, even on weekends.

Exercise regularly.    38    Finish exercising at least 3 hours before bedtime. Many sleep experts believe that exercising in late afternoon may actually help a person sleep.

Avoid stimulants (刺激物). Don’t drink beverages with caffeine, such as soda and coffee, after 4 pm.    39    And drinking alcohol in the evening can make a person restless and interrupt sleep.

Relax your mind. Avoid violent, scary or action movies or television shows right before bed. Reading books with active plots may also keep you from falling or staying asleep.

Create the right sleeping environment.    40    So close your curtains (and make sure they’re heavy enough to block out light) and turn down the thermostat (恒温器). Noise can prevent people from sleeping well. Use a white-noise machine if you need to block out a noisy environment.

A. Waking up at the same time every day also helps establish sleep patterns.

B. People usually sleep best in a dark cool room.

C. Light signals to the brain that it’s time to wake up.

D. Try not to exercise right before bedtime as it can make it harder for you to fall asleep.

E. Nicotine is also a stimulant, so quitting smoking may help you sleep better.

F. Naps too close to bedtime may keep you from falling asleep.

G. Some schools have carried out later start times.

Philo Farnsworth is not a name most people know. But his work changed the way we learn, the way we live, and even the way we think. Philo Farnsworth is responsible for one of the 20th century: television.

Philo Farnsworth was born in America in 1906. He was interested in science and technology at an early age. When he was twelve years old, he built an electric motor for his family’s washing machine. When he was fourteen, he was already giving a lot of thought to electrons(电子). As he was driving the family’s horse-drawn plowing machine, he noticed the evenly spaced rows of the potato fields. This sight gave him the idea that electrons could scan(扫描) an image one row at a time-an idea that was the key to electronic television.

By the time he was twenty-one years old, Farnsworth had started his own company and had managed to build the world’s first electronic television. It was a very simple device(设备).But after years of hard work, Farnsworth was able to introduce the kind of television we now use.

Farnsworth was a great inventor, but lived an unhappy life. He had a legal battle with the company, Radio Corporation of America (RCA) over who the real inventor of the TV was. He won the case, but the government stopped companies from making TVs during the war, so Farnsworth didn’t make much money from the invention.

When Farnsworth was young, he imagined television as a convenient way for distant audiences to enjoy lectures by famous professors, or entertainment by the best symphonies(交响乐)and ballets. When he was older, television became much more popular, but he was very disappointed in the silly programs on TV. He even told his own son, “There’s nothing on it worthwhile, and we’re not going to watch it in this household.”

21. What can we learn about Philo Farnsworth?

A. He had a strong physical advantage.

B. He had strong powers of observation.

C. He had a strong interest in journalism.

D. He had a strong sense of responsibility.

22. The underlined sentence showed Farnsworth was legally recognized as _____.

A. the real founder of RCA

B. the real inventor of the TV

C. the greatest inventor of his time

D. the organizer of the battle with RCA

23. The last paragraph mainly tells us that Farnsworth______.

A. didn’t like to watch TV programs

B. couldn’t afford to buy a TV set

C. couldn’t listen to famous lectures

D. didn’t like what television became

24. What is the best title for the text?

A. How did Philo Farnsworth invent television?

B. What caused Philo Farnsworth to invent television?

C. Philo Farnsworth: the unhappy father of television

D. Philo Farnsworth: a well-known scientist and inventor

I worked hard at English and devoted all my spare times to practicing English. But I still fail to pass an English exam. I felt very disappointing.

I asked my grandpa for advice. He said exam results were influenced some factors happening by chance. He also said we shouldn’t simple judge our improvement only by one exam. He encouraged me to keeping working hard. I took my grandpa’s advice and have been doing as she said since then. I found myself absorbing by the lovely language. Now my English is the much better than before.

From my experience, I feel that we should listen to old people which have more to share with us.
