Wild weather, unexpected coral reefs and dangerous sea creatures… these are the nightmares (噩梦) you can imagine a teenager on a solo voyage (独自旅行) around the world might suffer from. But for Laura Dekker, sailing around the globe seems less a price to be paidthan a prize to be treasured.
As the 19-year-old Dutch sailor said in Maidentrip, a documentary(纪录影片) released last year about her experience of becoming the youngest person to sail around the world alone in 2012, “I was born on a boat. I lived my first five years at sea. And ever since, all I have wanted is to return to that life.”
With her yacht(游艇) Guppy, Dekker began her journey at 14 and sailed 50,004 kilometers in 519 days.
The flying fish keeping her company, the dolphins following in her wake and the warm days spent on deck playing the flute (长笛) as she watched another unforgettable sunset were enough to make others jealous.
But these didn't always go well. There were terrible moments in which Dekker feared death. On one occasion, a whale almost turned Guppy over. Another time, she battled extreme winds and Guppy surfed down 8-meter-high waves.
Out on the open sea alone, she also got used to living without a fridge, a flushing(用水冲洗) toilet, and a hot shower.
“As a human being you don't need much,”she told Stuff.co.nz. “ They might make life more comfortable, but you really don't need them to be happy.”
In fact, her outlook on life was shaped by the trip. “I wanted the storms. I wanted the calms. I wanted to feel loneliness,”she told The New York Times. “And now I know all these things. It's the end ofthe dream I had as a child, and it's the beginning of my life as a sailor.”

As the saying goes, “Without music, life would be a mistake.” Music is very important in our lives and here are four of the greatest musicians in history.
Ludwig van Beethoven(1770-1827)
Born in Bonn, Germany, Beethoven never held an official position in Vienna. He supported himself by giving concerts, teaching piano, and the sale of his compositions(作曲). The last 30 years of Beethoven's life were filled with a lot of hard times, the first of which was his deafness. Beethoven's music greatly influenced the next generation of musicians.
Johann Sebastian Bach(1685-1750)
Bach, “the father of modern music”, was born in Eisenach, Germany. His parents died when he was nine years old, and in 1695 he went to live with his brother Johann Christoph, who was an organist(风琴手) in Ohrdruf. He stayed there until 1700. Seven years later, he moved back to Weimar, where he served as court(宫廷) organist for nine years. His music greatly influenced classical music.
Frederic Chopin (1810-1849)
Chopin was born in Zelazowa Wola, Poland. He showed a talent for the piano at a very young age. Chopin began composing when he was still a child, but some of his early works have been lost. He gave his first public concert in 1818. Chopin was considered as the leading musician of his time.
Franz Schubert(1797-1828)
Schubert was born and died in Vienna. Unlike most of his predecessors(前辈),Schubert was not a great performer. He never had much money but he was very productive. He wrote his first masterpiece when he was only sixteen. However, he died young, before his talents had even been known.

America is the country on the move. In unheard of numbers, people of all ages are exercising their way to better health. According to the latest figures, 59 percent of American adults exercise regularly-up 12 percent from just two years ago and more than double the figure of 25 years ago. Even non-exercisers believe they would be more attractive and confident if they were more active. It's hard not to get the message. The advantages of physical fitness are shown on magazine covers, postage stamps, and television ads for everything from beauty soaps to travel books. Exercise as a part of daily life did not catch on until the late 1960s when research by military doctors began to show the good points of' doing regular physical exercises. Growing publicity(宣传) for races held in American cities helped develop a strong interest in the ancient sport of running. Although running has leveled off in recent years as Americans have discovered equally helpful and sometimes safer-forms of exercise.
As the popularity of exercise continues to increase, so does scientific evidence(根据) of its health benefits. The key to fitness is exercising the major muscle group strongly enough to almost double the heart rate and keep it doubles for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Doing such physical exercises three times or more a week will greatly improve physical health in about three months.

Sri Lanka is a beautiful island nation best seen slowly, even if you have only four days there like I did.
The train in the country was my preferred means of transport (交通方式). My ticket, from Colombo to Kandy, with comfortable seats and a big picture window, cost $19 for the 2.5 hours ride. I got a second-class seat on the Kandy-to-Ella route (路线) and paid about $ 22 for the nearly seven-hour trip through the green hills and tea gardens of central Sri Lanka.
Gentle rain said hello to us as we entered Kandy. The Gamage family in William Gopallawa Mawatha Street hosted (招待) me. The lovely family, including parents, children and other family members, put me up for two nights in their home for $13 every night. My room was basic but comfortable, and came with a delicious breakfast spread every morning. Mrs. Gamage told me I could easily find someone in a tuk-tuk(三轮摩的) to show me around town.
When I found Santha, a small, middle-aged man with a big smile, the next day, we quickly agreed on a price for a tour of the city: just $15. His tuk-tuk moved uphill slowly toward Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya Buddhist Temple. The warm driver also took me to the Royal Botanic Gardens, a peaceful place away from the traffic and noise of the town.
The next morning, I got on a bright blue train to Ella. Ella Station isn't far from the Sunnyside Holiday Bungalow, where I had booked a room for about $40 every night. The owners are nice and the hotel with gardens is beautiful.
My first morning in Ella, I visited the Nine Arch Bridge, a beautiful old railway bridge. In the afternoon, it started to rain heavily. I walked into a restaurant which sits atop a hill and provides a breathtaking view (风景) of the countryside. An hour later, the rain let up. And I set out to go for a long walk in Little Adam's Peak. I loved the view of low-lying clouds resting gently on what seemed like an endless series of green hills.

Since early February, 218 people have been removed and taken to hospitals after testing positive for the novel coronavirus. Many remain quarantined on the ship, which originally set sail on Jan. 20th with 2,666 passengers and 1045 crew. Because they've been confined to their rooms for over 11 days, passengers feel almost as though they are on the ship alone.
But Friday is Valentine's Day, the holiday of love. It is not a day many people want to spend in isolation. Luckily, it seems Cupid's arrow is far-reaching. The captain and crew did a few things to try to lift passengers' spirits on Valentine's Day. "I'd like to read you a poem: Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends," said the captain through the loudspeaker.
Besides, guests were offered special selections for dinner and lunch. Breakfast included a chocolate croissant, decorated red for the holiday. Smith, a passenger on Diamond Princess, also tweeted a photo of other delicious treats provided by Princess Cruise, including a rose and dark chocolate. Yardley Wong, a passenger, who has been tweeting updates throughout the quarantine, shared an image of the menu provided by Diamond Princess's crew ahead of the Valentine's Day.
Passengers also created Valentine's messages for the crew. Dan Ponce, a television anchor from Chicago, posted on Twitter that his mother-in-law was quarantined on the ship and created Valentine's messages for the crew, which she taped on her cabin door.
"My mother-in-law Linda is among the passengers quarantined on the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan," he wrote. "Today she used manicure scissors to make valentines for the crew. So thoughtful!"
"Thank you for taking care of us," one of the hearts read.
As the quarantine continues with more new cases confirmed, passengers are becoming more and more anxious. "But I believe love can help us conquer all things," said one of the passengers on the ship.

For 83 years, Betty Grebenschikoff believed her best friend from Germany was dead. But just a few weeks ago, there she was, standing in a hotel room.
At the age of nine, they shared a tearful hug in a Berlin schoolyard when their families were forced to leave the country because of World War II. They both thought that would be their final hug. But after more than eight decades apart, the two women, who are now 92 years old, embraced once again.
The survivors of the war had searched for each other for years, collecting and seeking information from anyone who might know something. They had no luck, mainly because both women changed their names later in life.
It was not until an indexer (检索程序) from a nonprofit organization founded by Steven Spielberg, which preserves information of these survivors, noticed similarities in their information that the two women are linked together. For the first time, Grebenschikoff who lives in Shanghai now, got to know what happened to her long-lost childhood best friend: Wahrenberg and her family went to Santiago, Chile, where she still lives today.
With the help of the organization, the two women and their families reconnected on the Internet. Talking in their native German, they promised to meet in person, and one year later, they finally did.
As Grebenschikoff went to meet Wahrenberg at her hotel room, they hugged for the first time in 83 years. "It was as if we had seen each other yesterday," Grebenschikoff said."It was comfortable. "Wahrenberg had the same feeling, "It was very special that two people, after 83 years, still love one another." The women spent four days together. They went shopping, shared meals and, mostly, talked for hours - making up for the lost time. "We're not the girls we used to be when we were 9, that's for sure, but we kept giggling like we were little kids." Grebenschikoff said. "It was such a joy for both of us."
