① During the summer holiday, I visited Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou with my cousins. How relaxing the trip was!
② There are many kinds of shows on TV. As for me, I like talk shows and talent shows better because they are fun and I can learn a lot from them.
③ Most of my friends play computer games in their free time. I usually exercise. I do some running at least four times a week.
④ I made a new pen friend. She is in New York. She is tall and has long curly hair. She wears glasses. She is outgoing and creative.
⑤ There are three big supermarkets in our town. The Johnson's has the best goods. The Lucky Fellow has the friendliest service. And the King Star plays the most wonderful music.

It's the end of class. When the bell rings, students of a Foreign Languages School in Shenzhen quickly take out their mobile phones. They like to log on (登录) to their micro blogs to check the funny things that have happened in the last hour.
Micro blogging has swept the country during the last few years. Recent surveys show that most students in middle schools have a micro blog, and some even update their blogs more than five times a day.
"We learn many fresh and interesting things on micro blogs and they have become popular topics in class," said Liang Jianmin, 14, a student from Harbin No. 3 Middle School. "If you do not know about them, you are out.”
It is also a great place for students to relax." My parents always ask me to study hard, and encourage me before exams, but actually it adds pressure," said Zhang Yazhe, 15, a student from a Foreign Languages School. "When I share these feelings on my micro blog, I get many replies from friends in the same situation, which makes me feel better."
But parents are worried that micro blogging could be a waste of time. Some misleading messages may even be dangerous to kids.
Shen Mingde, a professor, suggests parents not worry too much that kids are crazy about micro blogging. Instead, however, it can also become a window for parents to understand their children. "If parents can read their children's micro blogs, they'll know their thoughts, it can lead to better communication and solutions to problems," he said.
He also gives some advice to kids.
Don't micro blog for more than one hour a day.
Never micro blog in class.
Try to talk face to face with people from time to time.
Be critical(批判性的). Not all the messages on the micro blog are true.
Well, it doesn't seem long since we welcomed you to the school on the first day your junior high school careers(生涯)! And here it is time for us, sadly, to say goodbye. Since you came here, you have all grown and changed in many ways.
You are ready now, to face the challenges of the world of senior high. Remember to work hard, just as you have in this school, because in just a few short years you will be ready to think about the future outside school--university, jobs and adult life. Remember, as you grow up, you are going to learn how to make the right decisions for yourself and how to make the best of the exciting chances you have in front of you.
In this school you have all lived daily with people from a different of backgrounds(背景). What have you learn from others? Hopefully patience, an interest in other cultures, the ability to accept people's differences and celebrate these differences.
Most of you will travel in the future, or perhaps study and work in different countries when you are older. The experiences you get from different people at school will be very valuable to you.
Above all, remember, you may make some mistakes, but don't worry. The only bad mistake is one we do not learn from. The senior high courses will be a new beginning and also hard work. But I hope you will all enjoy it very much and come back and see us sometime soon.
I wish you all the very best for the future.

The ghost is friendly
Look! This is Casper. He looks different from other boys and he can fly. In fact, he is a ghost, but he doesn't like scaring(吓唬) people. And he wants to be friendly.
To live a new life, he leaves his home. Then he meets a lot of animals. He first meets a rooster(公鸡). He says hello but the rooster runs away. Casper next meets a mole
(鼹鼠). At first the mole is happy to be friends with Casper. But after the mole puts on his glasses, he knows that Casper is a ghost and leaves him quickly, too. Casper then meets a mouse and a cat. They both run away because they think Casper is dangerous. But later, Casper makes friends with two children named Bonnie and Johnny. They have fun playing together. Casper likes helping others. At last, he has a lot of friends.
Casper first appeared( 出现) in a children's book in 1949. If you're interested in the little ghost, you can read some books about him. And you can also watch an old film called Casper.
Have you ever been in a rainforest? There aren't any in Europe but there are some in Africa, Asia and South America was in a rainforest once. It was hot and dark. It was also very wet. Water was falling from the leaves of the tress like rain. The ground was covered with dead leaves.

But there were thousands of new plants growing.
The most exciting plants were the large trees. Some were 50 meters high. I could only see little pieces of blue sky through the leaves. All the trees had small plants growing on them, and some of these had beautiful, brightly colored flowers.
It was very noisy. I could hear lots of birds. They were hard to see but I saw one green and red parrot flying high above me. It was beautiful. The insects also made a lot of noise and I could feel them on my arms and legs.
I didn't see any monkeys. They were probably sleeping high up in the treetops. I did see a small snake on the ground. I hate snakes so I walked quickly but carefully out of the forest.
I wouldn't like to live in a rainforest but I am happy that I could see one before they all disappear from Earth.
Dear Jan,
I went to Beijing with my parents last New Year's Day, and we went there by air. The weather was snowy. I like snow. We went to the Great Wall. It is so great. The next day we went to a big supermarket. We bought lots of things there. At noon we had some noodles and fruits for lunch. In the afternoon we went to the zoo. There were lots of animals. I like pandas because they are very cute. I had a great time in Beijing. How about your holiday?
Please write to me soon.
Yours,
Sam
This story is about Mrs. Jones, an 82-year-old lady. Although her life was hard, she was always nicely dressed every day. This morning Mrs Jones was moving to the nursing home. The nursing home was very busy. After hours of waiting, Mrs Jones still smiled sweetly when she was told that her room was ready. ⑴在去她房间的路上,我告诉她房间是什么样子的。
Suddenly she said, "I love it!"
"But Mrs Jones, you haven't seen the room yet!" I was surprised at her reply. She stopped and said, "Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is placed. ⑵ It depends on how I decide to think about the room. I have already decided to love the room before I actually see it."
Then she continued, "I have a choice. I can spend the day in bed and consider how tiny my room is. Or I can just get out of bed and be thankful that I can still enjoy a new day. Each day is a gift. ⑶ I'll enjoy my life and all the happy memories. I have stored them in my bank account (账户) before.”
Life is like a bank account. You can take out what you've put in. (4) If you have put a lot of happiness in your bank account, you can take out some of it when you feel sad.
Attitude (态度) is everything.

Nowadays, more and more teenagers can't get along well with their parents, some even fight with their parents from time to time. That's too bad. Even if you think that your parents cannot understand you at times, loving your parents is a normal and satisfying part of life. You love them for the fact that they created you and raised you. Here are some ways to love your parents.
You can use these moments to learn from them when you're off on your own. It's OK to be angry, but angry actions don't help you or your parents. Act calmly, cool off, keep a diary about your feelings, or talk to a friend. After this, show your feelings to your parents.
It depends on what you do. For example, if you get home late without calling first, next time your parents may not believe you. To get their trust, you must pay attention to the ways you do things instead of fighting with them. It will make your life much easier.
You can watch TV, or go somewhere with them. Anyway, spend as much time with them as you can. You can go hiking together, your parents will get to know that you have the ability to deal with different problems, and they will understand you more. Listen to their old stories and learn from them. You will find they are your teachers in one way or another.
A gentle "good morning" and "I love you" will warm the coldest heart every morning. Remember that they brought you into the world. Without your parents, you might still wander at an unknown corner in an unknown world.
It will help you to get more respect from them. It may seem like you are going through hell when you don't get what you want or you have to clean the room when you aren't willing to do that at that moment. However, you had better remember they keep you comfortable when it's cold, raining, snowing, or too hot. Understand that parents are human beings and they make mistakes, too.
A. Do what you are told to do.
B. Remember parents are important.
C. Do things with your parents.
D. How can your parents believe you?
E. Respect them more and value these moments.
F. Tell them you love them.

|
A. You must take a map with you. B. If you decide to take an easy hike, you're going to have a nice day outside. C. When you have problems, you can use it to get help. D. The people in a team can help each other. E. However(然而), sometimes it can be as easy as going out to the parks. |
China will remember the great moment. At 9: 00 a.m. on October 15th, 2003, the country sent up its first manned spacecraft, ShenzhouⅤ, into space at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu Province.
Now China has become the third country in the world to send a person into orbit(运行轨道) after the former Soviet Union(前苏联) and the United States. Yang Liwei, 38, is China's first spaceman.
Yang sent a message back to the earth," I'm feeling very good in space, and it looks wonderful here." Yang then told his wife and son," I have looked at our beautiful earth and recorded all that I have seen here."
It was planned that ShenzhouⅤwould circle the earth 14 times in about 20 hours.
What did the spaceship take with? Flags and seeds(种子): a national flag, a United Nations flag, the Olympic flag and one kilogram of seeds for experiments.
Yang, who comes from Liaoning Province, has been an air force pilot since 1987. He was chosen from 14 pilots after many difficult tests.

As a child, Alain Robert was afraid of heights. One day, when he was 12, he returned home from school. At the front door of his building, he looked for his keys. He didn't have them. It was 3:30, and his parents worked until 6:00 p.m. Robert looked at his apartment on the eighth floor. He saw an open window. He closed his eyes and pictured himself climbing the building. When he opened his eyes, he told himself, "I can do it." A quarter of an hour later, he was in his house, and his fear of heights was gone.
Today, Robert (known as the French Spideman) still climbs buildings. In 2004, he climbed Taipei 101(the tallest building in the world at the time), and in 2011 he climbed the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai. To reach the top of a building, Robert usually uses only his hands and special shoes. To climb the Burj Khalifa Tower, though, he was made to wear safety ropes.
Robert climbs as a hobby. He also does it to make money for charity (for children and the homeless). Climbing is his passion. Although many climbing accidents have left him seriously disabled, he has become one of the best solo climbers in the world. Alain says in an interview, "We set ourselves limits, but we are all strong enough to aim higher, to achieve our goals. All we have to do is find such strength within ourselves."
When Robert climbs, he wants to send a message to people. If you have a dream—something you really want to do—it can become real. But you must be brave and keep trying. If something bad happens, don't give up. Close your eyes and tell yourself, "I can do it."
Friends are important in our life, because no one wants to be lonely. However, some people have problems in making friends and they often feel lonely. According to a new study from Chicago University, the reason is that this kind of people have brains (脑) different from common people. And they often feel unsafe when facing strangers.
Does that mean they have no way to become happy again?
Scientists of this study have thought up ways to help these people deal with their loneliness. They provided four steps for getting out of loneliness.
"It's not enough for people just to get in touch with others online. That's because most people don't show their true selves there," said Dr Cacioppo, one of this study's scientists. Another step is to get an action plan. As "Actions speak louder than words", people need to be active to communicate with others. They also need to meet people with the same interests. Also, they should try to expect the best from each activity. Who knows what good things are waiting for us?
|
A. When do people feel lonely? B. The first step is to accept social invitations even if you don't want to go. C. After all, “tomorrow is another day”. D. What's the reason behind that? E. Why don't we like them? F. New ways to deal with loneliness G. No, don't worry. |

Studies found that travel helps children learn a lot. But planning a school trip is not easy. Teachers need to spend much time making sure the trip will go well. Here are some tips (提示)to plan a safe and educational (有教育意义的)school trip. ◊Start planning early You should start planning as early as possible before the trip. There is a lot to do, so it is best to give yourself enough time. ◊Don't make the trip too long Some children may easily cry because the idea of being away from home makes them become homesick, so short trips are usually the best. ◊Make a clear plan Take a piece of paper and write down your trip plan clearly. What do you want the trip to tell your students? Where do you want to go? What do you do when you first arrive? When do you come back? The clearer your plan is, the better the trip will be. ◊Take care of kids' safety During the trip, kids' safety is the most important because accidents may happen if you are not careful enough. ◊Make time for sharing and discussing ◊ Make sure your trip gives kids time to share and discuss - during and after. This can happen at dinner, on the way back or when you come back to school. This will help children learn more. |
