    Mike lived in a small village near New York two years ago. He had a big brown dog. He liked the dog very much because once it saved a boy.

     "Listen, if it isn't enough, I can try and get some more. Just tell me how much it costs."

    A well-dressed man heard it and asked, "What kind of miracle does your brother need?"

    "I don't know," she answered with her eyes full of tears. "He's really sick and mum says he needs an operation. But my daddy can't pay for it, so I have brought all my money."

    "How much do you have?" asked the man. "$1.11, but I can try and get some more," she answered.

    "Well, what luck," smiled the man. "$ 1.11, the price of a miracle for little brother." He took up the girl's hand and said, "Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need." That well-dressed man was Dr Carlton Armstrong, a famous doctor. The operation was successful and it wasn't long before Andrew was home again. How much did the miracle cost?

Every morning, Johnson woke up early and took an old bag to the subway station. He would take the subway to Central London. There he would collect scrap (废品).He did this every single day.

He had collected scrap for 20 years. His house was dirty, and a bad smell came out of the house. The neighbors could not stand the smell anymore, so they called the police officers to deal with the problem. The officers opened the door and cleared the house. They found some money in his house. The police soon knew that Johnson was not a truly poor man because he could live a normal life with the money. They decided to try to stop him collecting scrap.

Although they could get relief (救济金) from the government, Johnson refused. He believed he could make money by his own hands. After knowing the truth, the officers announced the fact to the neighbors. All of them understood and admired Johnson.

Johnson had no great plans or dreams all his life. He won praise from others because he kept independence in his mind. The earlier people learn to be independent, the more meaningful life they will get.

The girl started to cry. She couldn't make straw into gold. Suddenly, an ugly imp (小精灵) appeared. "I can help you to turn straw into gold," he said. "Give me all your money and I'll do it for you." The girl gave him all her money and the imp changed the straw into gold.

We study at West Hill No. 6 Middle School. We have a special activity in May. We usually call it Food Street. We held this activity on the school playground in May this year.

This activity is a part of our school English Art Festival. The teachers divided the students in each class into groups. Each group sold different kinds of foods. The students did the cooking and the shopping by themselves. They cooked delicious food such as fried chicken, potato chips and vegetables. The students all worked hard and sold the food at low prices. The customers were all the students, teachers and parents. They were all pleased with the nice food.

"It was really hard work," said one of the students. "We must make a plan before the cooking. We must know how much we should spend on the things. Sometimes we needed to learn how to cook some food. Also, we must learn how to serve customers well. "

"This activity was a good chance for students to improve their skills," said one teacher. The old man then told him that perhaps he should try looking upward, toward the tree, instead of in the river. The young man looked up, and the necklace was hanging on the branch of a tree. He had been trying to catch a reflection（倒影）of the necklace all the time.

John went to visit his 90-year-old grandfather in the countryside. He was so old and sometimes he did silly(傻的) things.

The next morning, John's grandfather made him breakfast. However, John saw something on his plate(盘子), and asked his grandfather, "Are these plates clean?" " If they are good enough(足够) for Mr. David, they are good enough for you. Just finish your meal!" his grandfather answered. Mr. David must be an important person (人), John thought.

Last summer holiday, I had an amazing trip with my family in the UK. We went there to visit my Uncle Sam. He went there in 2015. He lived in London, the capital of the UK.

London has a long history of more than 2000 years. There are lots of old and beautiful buildings in the city. We visited many famous places—like the British Museum, Big Ben and Oxford Street. I liked the British Museum best because the works of art in it are so amazing.

If you want to go shopping, you must go to Oxford Street. It's home to about 300 shops. I bought some cards for my friends. I think they will like them.

The food in London is different from that in China. Usually, English people eat one kind of meat and two vegetables for one meal. And there are lots of Chinese restaurants and even Chinese supermarkets. So I could eat everything I like.

The trip to London helped me learn more about the world. I hope I can visit more countries in the future.
