What will you choose, if you are sitting in front of a TV and there is a book right next to you? Thewill probably be the TV! Young people will certainly choose the TV, but you will be(surprise) to find that the older will take time to think about it. Why is this? Are the books not as interesting as they used to(be) ? Is it that the world has(change) so much in the past years that our habits are not the same anymore?
Nowadays many people have no interest literature (文学). This may be a possible explanation(解释).reason might be the change of lifestyle. We'd like to visit a club or a bar to relax(we) after a long day's work rather than read a book in our own homes. All the stress of the work makes us want a quick relaxing way. It is much(simple) to turn on the TV and watch the latest news around the world than read 19th century literature!
With all the TV programs, an interesting show or movie can(find) easily. The only disadvantage is that TV never provides youall the facts as a book can do. TV is much more superficial(肤浅) than books. Even if it does get you relaxed in just a moment.

May Day is the day when we celebrate the end of winter and the arrival of spring. It's a time of new life, with new leaves on the trees and wildflowers growing in the woods and fields. On that day, children in Britain and other parts of Europe often make May baskets and hang them on a neighbor's door as a gift of love and friendship.
Here are the steps of making this kind of basket.
Step 1 Food paper into a cone(圆锥形) and stick it to keep the shape.
Step 2 Cut top of the cone with scissors.
Step 3 Make two holes on opposite sides of the cone. Leave 5cm form the top.
Step 4 Pass ribbon(彩带) through holes and tie it to create a basket handle.
Step 5 Fill your basket with different kinds of flowers.

It is not always easy to discover yourself. From a young age, I had a strong sense of who I would become. , an accident changed everything.
To me, skating was (important) than anything else in the world. Nothing else filled my heart with so much joy. I spent 24 hours a week (develop) my skills. I had no social life or interests other than skating. But I was rewarded (回报)with first place (medal) in nearly all competitions.
(unlucky), during one competition, I fell and was badly injured. The doctor told me that I couldn't skate anymore. The pain in my back was hard to bear and even basic daily tasks became difficult.
My passion had been taken away. I (lose) heart and had no idea who I would become. After eight months of suffering, something had to change. Instead sitting around and wasting my days, I began to work with local community service projects. By volunteering a swimming teacher and summer reading assistant for kids, I got idea of who I wanted to become. Little by little, I stepped out of the shadow and rebuilt my confidence.
Sometimes, challenges in life will get in our way. We can choose to stay behind or try to get past these challenges. My accident was a challenge that failed to stop from reaching success. Now I'm a very confident person.
Many books have been written about "the art of giving". And we also know that it's hard to give people a gift, 1 a personal one. If we want to make it better, we should understand who you will give the gift to and their likes and 2.
As is often the case, some little kids think they don't get enough gifts 3 some old people think they get too many gifts. Different people like different kinds of gifts. Some presents are never too4. For example, when a little child just gives his or her mother a leaf from a tree, it is enough to make her very5.
Gift giving is different in different 6. Here are some of their likes. In Japan, people sometimes give special gifts. But they are not opened. Later, the same gift may be given away to someone 7, because many people have enough things and don't want 8 gifts themselves. In Canada, a tree can help remember 9. In the US, some people ask their families and friends to give money to charity rather than buying them gifts. In Sweden, doing something for someone is the best gift. People don't need to 10 much money. Instead, making a meal for him or her is enough.
To make things 11, some people would rather just give money. In some cultures, however, 12 money can make people uncomfortable. "When someone gives me money, it just makes me think they're being lazy," says John Wilson. "In England, we have a saying, 'It's the thought that 13.' When someone gives me money, I feel they don't think it about at all. I prefer to receive a gift14 has some thought behind it."
Different people have very different thoughts15this subject! So maybe the art of giving is difficult! What do you think?

Many of you have probably had this experience: You get on a train and are ready to take a nap or read a book, only to find that the passenger in front of you is watching a TV show without earphones. The child next to you won't stop crying. And the man behind you talks on her phone during the whole trip.
Wish the train could be less noisy? There might be a solution for you. The Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway, one of China's busiest high-speed rail lines, will have "quiet" carriages (车厢) starting from Dec 23, Xinhua reported.
In quiet carriages, videos will be muted (静音) and doors at the ends of the carriage will be kept closed to reduce noise from other carriages, CGTN noted. Train attendants (乘务员) will make sure that passengers remain quiet and follow the rules.
Passengers who are willing to follow the rules can choose the quiet carriages when booking their tickets, according to China Daily.
Some people have pointed out that this kind of quiet environment should be offered in all carriages. They say that having quiet carriages might give people the idea that they don't need to be quiet in non-quiet carriages.
While some Internet users are in favor of the new service, it has also led discussion about just how quiet travelers should be in quiet carriages. Many people have raised questions such as "What if l snore (打呼噜) ?"and "Can we talk to our travel partners if we need to?"
Can you fold paper in different ways to create different shapes, such as animals or flowers? Follow the directions below to learn how to make a beautiful swan. All you need is one square piece of paper.
Fold the swan in half. Take the swan by its neck and pull the paper up. Keep pulling until it looks right to you.
Carefully fold the lower edges (边缘) toward the center of the paper as shown. Make sure the edges meet in the middle.
To make the swan's neck, fold the bottom point up. Fold down the head. You can change what the swan looks like by changing the length of the neck or of the head.
Turn the paper over. (The gray (灰色) shade means the back of the paper.) Fold the paper again. Make sure the edges meet in the middle.

Henry was going through a very hard time. His wife passed away one month ago! He thought his life became pointless. Henry sat in his house sadly and did nothing.
One day, Henry's neighbor, Lisa, saw him from her yard. She hadn't seen him outside for several days. She wanted to help Henry. Then she had an idea.
Lisa said to Henry, "Hello, Henry! Just look at this fence between our houses. It is falling apart. You are a strong man, Can you help me fix this fence?"
After hearing Lisa's words, Henry was a little angry. He didn't want to help her. He thought he was the one who needed help. He thought Lisa was kind of rude. However, he agreed to help Lisa because Lisa was too old to fix the fence herself.
Henry spent a few days fixing the fence. When he finished, Lisa thanked him. Henry gave her a smile. It was his first time to smile after his wife passed away." What a wonderful job! Could you please paint it for me?" Lisa said to him.
Henry thought for a while and agreed. Then he began to paint the fence in the hot sun. As their neighbors passed by, they all praised Henry for what he did. Henry felt happy and proud. He felt like his life was not pointless any more.
Henry finally understood Lisa's purpose. She wanted Henry to know that staying busy could help him forget his sorrows. Henry thanked Lisa a lot
