DearSimon,
Thanks for telling me about your problems!
Do you like pop music? Most people did . One of the best bands is the New Ocean Waves. In the last twelve month , they've had three major concerts and make a hit CD. They're going to appear in CCTV next month. And then they are going to go on a world tour which they will perform in ten different cities. Be sure not to miss them if they will come to a city near you-- if you can get tickets. For years, we played other peoples' songs,“says leader Zhu Wen. “But now we play most our own songs. We've had few songs in the top ten, but we really hope to have a number one hit some day.” Good lucky to the New Ocean Waves! They're off to a great start. And they're really nice people.

Everyone wants to have a perfect life. But how can we own that? The writer called Brian Tracy tells us some tips:
The first goal common to all of us is healthy and energy. We all want to be healthy and fit, to have high levels of energy and to live free of pain and illness. Today, with the quick development of medical science, the quality of our health and fitness, and our lifespan(寿命), is largely determined by design, not by chance. People with excellent health habits are far healthier, have more energy, and live longer and better than people who have poor health habits.
The second goal that we all have in common is to enjoy excellent relationships, getting along well with the people we like and respect, and who like, love and respect us in turn. Fully 85% of your happiness will be determined by the quality of your relationships(人际关系) at each time, and in each area, of your life. How well you get along with people, and how much they like, love and respect you, has more effect on the quality of your life than perhaps any other reasons.
The third common goal is to do work that we enjoy, to do it well, and to be well paid for it. You want to be able to get and keep the job you want, to get paid more and promoted(提升) faster. You want to earn as much money as possible at any time, whatever you do.
The last goal we all have in common is to reach the point in life where you have enough money so that you never have to worry about money again. You want to be completely free of worries about money.

Although people everywhere seem to enjoy drinking coffee, they don't all have the same coffee culture. In Europe, for example, coffee shops are common places for people to meet friends and to talk while they drink coffee. On the other hand, places like this were not as common in North America in the past. Instead, people in North America liked to drink coffee in their homes with friends. The coffee culture in the USA changed when Starbucks (星巴克) coffee shops spread across the country.
The first Starbucks coffee shop opened in 1971 in downtown Seattle, Washington, in the USA. It was a small coffee shop that cooked its own coffee beans. The coffee shop's business did well, and by 1981 there were three Starbucks stores in Seattle.
Things really began to change for the company in 1981. That year, Howard Schultz met the three men who ran Starbucks. Schultz worked in New York for a company that made kitchen equipment. He noticed that Starbucks ordered a large number of special coffee makers, which caused his great interest. Schultz went to Seattle to see what Starbucks did. In 1982, the original Starbucks owners hired Schultz as the company's head of marketing (市场营销).
In 1983, Schultz traveled to Italy. The special environment of the espresso (浓咖啡) bars there caught his eyes. Back in the USA, Schultz created an environment for Starbucks coffee shops that was comfortable and casual, and customers everywhere seemed to like it. Starbucks began opening more stores across the USA. Then the company opened coffee shops in other countries as well. Today, there are more than 16,000 Starbucks coffee shops all over the world.
However, that does not mean Starbucks has not had problems. In fact, many Starbucks stores have closed over the past few years. On the one hand, this is because there were too many coffee shops competing for business in one small area. On the other hand, stores in some countries closed because the coffee culture there did not match with the "feel the same everywhere" environment offered by Starbucks.
a. This man helped to make Starbucks a huge coffee company.
b. Starbucks began as a small coffee company in Seattle in the USA.
c. He went to Seattle to learn about the company and later worked for it.
d. Howard Schultz noticed Starbucks ordered lots of special coffee makers.

When I was a little kid, a father was like the light in the fridge. Every house had one, but no one really knew what either of them did when the door was shut.
My dad left the house every morning and always seemed glad to see every one again at night. He opened the jar of pickles when no one else at home could. He was the only one in the house who wasn't afraid to go into the basement by himself.
Whenever it rained, he got into the car and brought it around to the door. When anyone was sick, he went out to get the prescription(处方) filled. He set mousetraps. He cut back the roses so the thorns(刺) wouldn't hurt you when you came to the front door. He oiled my roller skates, and they went faster. When I got my bike, he ran alongside me for at least a thousand miles until I got the hang of it. He signed all my report and cards. He took a lot of pictures, but was never in them. He tightened up Mother's sagging(松垂的) clothesline every week or so.
I was afraid of everyone else's father, but not my own.
Whenever I played house(玩过家家), the mother doll had a lot to do. I never knew what to do with the daddy doll, so I had him say, "I'm going off to work now," and threw him under the bed.
When I was nine years old, my father didn't get up one morning and go to work, he went to the hospital and died the next day.
There were a lot of people in the house who brought all kinds of good food and cakes. We had never had so much company before.
He never did anything; I didn't know his leaving would hurt so much.
1 years and years people have been saying that railways are dead. "We can do 2 railways," people say, 3 cars and planes have made railways unnecessary. We all keep hearing that trains are slow, 4 money and are dying. But this is far from the 5. In these days of expensive 6, railways have become highly competitive(竞争的) with cars and planes. If you want to carry people or things from place to place, they're 7 than planes. And they have much in 8 with planes. A plane goes in a straight line and 9 does a railway. What is more, a railway takes you from the heart of a city center. It doesn't stop as a car does on crowded roads. And no plane or car can ever carry as many goods(货物) as one train 10.
Far from being dead, railways are much 11. Modern railway lines give you a comfortable journey. Where else can you eat well, sleep comfortably, feel safe and enjoy the scene while you are traveling 12? And we are only the beginning, for we have just 13 the age of super-fast trains, which can travel almost 200 14 an hour or more. Soon we will be wondering 15 we spent so much on highways and planes we can't fly in because we don't have enough money to buy the oil.
A. Think about what to do tomorrow.
B. Review the day.
C. Imagine a quiet place.
D. Exercise every day.
E. Stop doing other things.
F. Choose proper food.
If you have difficulty sleeping at night, it's time for you to take it seriously. According to Medicine Net, bad sleeping can lead to plenty of problems such as poor concentration and mood changes. Luckily, there are some tips that can help you fall asleep quickly ad may also improve the quality (质量)of your sleep.
① Daily exercise will reduce your stress and help you fall into a deep sleep. Consider doing exercise such as walking, swimming or bicycling between 5:00 pm to 7:00pm, as your body is at its finest physical condition. Then you can get a good quality of sleep at night.
② Eat food that is helpful to your sleep. Take healthy food in your food list, such as milk, cheese, bananas, eggs and honey. Have a light dinner and don't eat high-fat foods, as these foods take longer to digest(消化). Keep away from chocolate and high-sugar foods before bedtime. Drink plenty of water all through the day. But remember to stop doing so by 8:00pm, or you prevent yourself from enjoying a good sleep by visiting the bathroom from time to time.
③ Prepare yourself for sleep and avoid eating , watching TV or doing homework in your bed. Your body will learn that when you are on your bed, it's time to fall asleep. Doing other things on your bed will make it harder to fall asleep when you finish them all.
④ If you can't fall asleep for hours in bed, then try to review what you did during the day .Try to catch as much detail(细节) as possible. But don't think too much about anything that you worried about, since that can make falling asleep more difficult. If you finish reviewing the day, but still can't fall asleep, then go back to yesterday and even the day before yesterday. Reviewing the day can make you calm.
⑤ If you are having trouble clearing your mind , think of a relaxing and peaceful scene. For example, imagine that you're lying on the beach under the warm and pleasant sunshine, watching the waves(海浪) breaking on the rocks again and again . And it would be better if you can do deep breathing exercises while you do this.
Every day there is less and less space on Earth for rubbish. Yet every day we make more and more rubbish. What can we do? We can recycle some of our rubbish. Recycling means that the rubbish will be made into something that can be used again.
Recycling helps Earth. And it saves space in rubbish dumps(垃圾场). Half of everything that we put into landfills could be recycled instead. In fact, most things made of paper, metal, glass and plastic can be recycled.
Paper can be broken into small pieces and made into new paper. Steel and aluminum cans(金属罐) can be melted down(熔化) and made into new cans. The same is true of glass bottles. This can be done over and over again. Recycling doesn't take as much energy as making these things the first time. So we can use less of Earth's fuel resources.
Plastic can be melted down, too. Then it can be formed into park benches(长椅), playgrounds and so on. Some people call plastic the "wood" of the future. Things made of plastic will last about 400 years—even if they stay outside in the weather. No wood can do that!

When it comes to Germany, music lovers might immediately think of Bach's or Beethoven's classical works, and soccer fans would call the Bundesliga one of their must-see events.
But how much do Germans know about China and Chinese culture? Three learners at the China Cultural Centre in Berlin recently shared with us their stories of learning Chinese and
Chinese culture.
Andreas Pietsch is a history professor at the University of Münster. While learning Chinese at the centre, Pietsch, a music lover, was gradually drawn to traditional Chinese instruments. Two years ago, he began to learn to play guzheng. Having travelled to China several times, Pietsch said he planned to visit all the six sites on the Renminbi notes. So far he has visited five, except the Potala Palace in Tibet.
"My interest in Chinese started during my second trip to China," said Alexander Straβmeir, president of State Office for Refugee Affairs. " Chinese has the most beautiful characters in the world. I chose to practise Chinese calligraphy because it shows the beauty of Chinese culture. "Though he finds the tonal system in Chinese really challenging, Straßmeir says he enjoys learning the language as it is like a mirror in which he could see a different way of thinking behind the language itself.
Keno Budde is an undergraduate* student at the Free University of Berlin. Asked why he's learning Chinese, Budde answered, "I made the decision after l saw clearly what would happen in the future." Budde is impressed with some of the latest technologies coming from China, such as the high-speed trains, mobile payment and Huawei's leading position in the 5G race. "Learning a language gives you the insight into a country's culture. Learning Chinese can give us more chances in the future as China will go on growing," Budde explained.
We all need clean water every day. However, more than 700 million people around the world have difficulty (get) clean and safe water.
On the one hand, treating waste water is a good way (provide) fresh water for us. And it also improves the environment keeping waste out of rivers and oceans. 80% of waste water around the world is not treated at all, and it is running into oceans (direct). But now we have got the technology to treat and recycle the waste water.
On other hand, desalination(水淡化) can also be a useful way. Although 75% of our planet (cover) with water, only 2% is fresh water coming from rivers, lakes, ice and snow. The rest, 98% of the water, is in seas and oceans. It is too salty to drink, more than 19, 000 factories have been built around the world to make water drinkable(可饮用的). Every day, they process more than 92 million (ton) of water. But the technology they use (require) a lot of energy. Scientists hope they can create a new technology to work better with less money in the future. They want to produce 20 times more than clean water, to make sure everyone can have enough water in the future.
