Venus is close to Earth．It is the second planet from the Sun．Earth is the third planet from the Sun．Venus is similar to Earth in size and mass (质量).It is often described as Earth's“sister”.

    Scientists have been learning about Venus for a long time．First they looked at Venus through telescopes(望远镜)．But Venus is covered with thick(厚的)clouds．Scientists could not see Venus well through the clouds．So they made guesses about it．

    For a long time, scientists thought that Venus had water and plants．They thought Venus might have animals，too．But they didn't know for sure．

    Then scientists found a way to learn more about Venus．In the 1960s，they began sending probes (航天探测器) to Venus．The probes flew through the thick clouds．They took pictures of Venus up close．They found out many things ,too．The probes sent the pictures and things they found out back to the scientists．

    The scientists learned a lot from the probes．First they learned that most of their guesses were not right．And they learned that Venus is very hot．

    After that，scientists knew they could not send people to Venus．But they still wanted to know more about it．So they sent new probes．These new probes took great pictures of the planet．The pictures showed that Venus has plains(平原)and mountains! And in some ways，Venus looks like Earth．

    Tell children about the importance of doing chores..Knowing the importance of the chores helps to motivate children to do them.

    I have a classmate called Li Ting. She is the only child in her family. Her parents love her so much that they don't let her do any chores. On weekdays she gets up, has meals, goes to school, has lessons, comes back home, does homework and goes to bed. While on weekends, she only plays with her friends. So she doesn't know how to do chores. One day, her father was badly ill and was in hospital. Her mother had to take care of her father in the hospital and couldn't cook meals for her for a week. Li Ting didn't know how to cook meals. She had a lot of trouble cooking meals and often felt hungry. She only had instant noodles（方便面）for her meals. From the story we know it's important for us to learn to do chores and other skills from now on.

    It was half past five in the afternoon when Sarah came home from work. She walked into theliving room and looked at her three children.

    The children were fourteen, thirteen and nine years old. They were happily watching TV. The room was dirty and untidy. There were empty glasses and dirty clothes on the floor. Toys were everywhere.

    Sarah got angry. "What a mess!" she said to her children. "I work all day and have to do the housework all evening. I'm very tired. I need to have a good rest. I won't do the housework anymore!"

    Sarah did as she said. She didn't do any housework. Every evening she sat on the sofa and watched TV. A week later, every dish in the kitchen was dirty. All the children's clothes were dirty, too. Every trash can was full. The whole house was out of order.

    Then one day when Sarah got home, she got very surprised. The kitchen was clean. The children had cleaned it!

    The second day, when Sarah got home, she found the living room was clean, and the children were washing their clothes. Sarah was happy and went to help them.

    Now Sarah and her three children do the housework together. Then they all sit on the sofa and watch TV.
