There was once a little mosquito(蚊子) who was very pleased with himself. One day, he showed his muscles and told the other mosquitoes how strong he was. They laughed at the little mosquito. They really wanted him to shut up.
The little mosquito said, "I'll show you! Look at the strong lion over there. I'll make him beg me to stop fighting him." After hearing these words, the other mosquitoes laughed louder than ever.
The little mosquito flew onto the lion's face and began biting his nose. There was no fur for protection on his nose. The lion beat his nose with his claws(爪子) to try to kill the little mosquito. But he failed. The more he scratched, the worse his nose got.
"Stop," roared the lion so loudly that all the other animals could hear him. "I give up. Go away. Leave me in peace."
The little mosquito was pleased with himself. He flew away proudly. He was so excited that he didn't know where he was going. Finally, he flew straight into a spider's web.
"You're not as strong as my web," said the spider. Then he began to gobble up the little mosquito.
– I'm afraid there is _______ these days. Let's go shopping instead.

Have you ever picked up a pen to write some characters, but you can't remember what look like?
You're not alone. CCTV-10 started a show (call)Chinese Character Dictation Com-petition (《中国汉字听写大会》) last year. On the show, only three out of 10 adults (correct) wrote bingjiling (ice cream 冰激凌), and no one could out penti (sneeze喷嚏). According to a survey, 94.1% of people said they had memory lapses (差错) when writing some characters.
It seems that Chinese characters are in Since the digital(数码) age began, fewer and fewer people use pens and paper. Most people now write Chinese on keyboards using pinyin. As result, many people would forget the features特征 of a Chinese character, such as its structure and ( mean ) easily.
Chinese characters are one of the world's ( old)written languages, dating back (追溯到) to 1100 BC. It's not only a way for us to record things, it's important to pass on Chinese culture. example, the character nan (male男) is made up of two parts , tian (farmland田) and li (strength力). We can tell from it that in the old times Chinese men were in charge of (负责) working on the farmland.
Mr Smith was in trouble those days. He drove a car for Mr Black, a rich businessman. He worked hard and the shopkeeper liked him. But he couldn't work when he drank too much. And once he almost fell into the river when he drove along the bridge. Mr Black become angry and was going to send him away. He had a big family and was afraid of it and promised(许诺) he would stop drinking at once. The man told him to wait to be dealt with(处置).
One Monday morning Mr Smith came into the office with two badly burnt(烧伤的) ears.
"What happened to your ears?" asked Mr Black.
"Well," said the man." I went to watch a football match yesterday while my wife was ironing(熨) clothes. She had put the iron(熨斗) near the telephone before she went to cook supper. Our team lost the game and I felt sorry for it. As soon as I went into the sitting-room, the phone rang and I answered the iron!"
"And what happened to the other ear ?"
"When I put the iron down on the table, the telephone rang again!"
The little girl like a boy yesterday.
—OK, here you are.
Tom had busy school days, and he (几乎不) ever did sports. In fact, he had no time for sports. He hoped to do (某事) different. As a (孩子), it was better to enjoy outdoor activities. So he and his father decided to climb a famous mountain that is(接近) to his town. They got ready to (尝试) hard at the bottom of the mountain, and they were really (成功的) –they reached the top of the mountain. His father gave him a pen as his (奖励). How (新鲜的) the air was! He could (清楚地) hear the birds singing beautifully. He was so excited that he (期待) to keep it in a diary. What a wonderful experience it was!
There is no doubt that mothers play an important role in the lives of their children. But what about a father's role? My belief is that fathers play just as important a role as mothers.
Fathers give us support. They are the shore we swim to when our arms and legs feel tired. They are the strength we rely on as we take our first step into the world. Fathers can be gentle and powerful, but they probably have the simplest love we ever know.
For daughters, the father is the first man they admire and the first man whose eyes shine with happiness when they look at them. He is the first man to fall in love with them.
________________, the father is their first idol and possible the only man they will ever feel comfortable loving.
For mothers, the father of our children is the person we can trust to watch over the babies as closely as we would. We are protected in the knowledge of their love. A father is the person on the planet with whom we can do whatever we want… one who will be just as interested and never feel bored in the face of our devotion.
Without fathers, we wouldn't be moms. I would like to thank them from all our hearts for this honor and for being our partners in this business of raising children.
Round eyes, round head, round ears and round body! He looks like a bear, he is not a bear. He's a Koala.
People in Australia love Koalas. They have set up places for them to live (safe). No one kills them for their fur. When a koala is born, he has no fur. The mother koala has a pocket in the front of her body. The baby stays in this warm pocket for six (month).
When the baby koala leaves the pocket, he has much fur. He (climb) onto his mother's back. There he learns from his mother how to find food. Mrs koala is good mother. But when the baby is naughty (淘气的), she beats (he). The baby cries just as a small child does. If he keeps on crying, his mother beats again.
The koala can't live without a special kind of tree. The tree is the (important) to the koala, because it gives him both home and food. For most of the day the koala sleeps in the tree. At night the koala looks food. He likes only the bark and the leaves of the tree. He eats nothing else. He eats more than two pounds each night.
I like the koala best, because I think a cute animal the koala is! In the future I want (go) to Australia to see the real koala.

The app Forest helps me pay attention to what I am doing. For example, if I want to read a book for an hour, I "plant" a seed in the app. During this time, I can't use my phone. As time goes by, the seed will grow into a tree. But if I use my phone, the tree will die. —Betty King | |
| What was the hottest movie last summer? I would say it was Ne Zha. The movie shows Ne Zha in his present life. Since he was a demon* in his past life, people in his village think he is still bad. Ne Zha believes he can choose to be good or bad. In both the old and new stories, Ne Zha keeps fighting and never gives up. That's why people still love him today. —Anna White | My favourite book is The Likeness. It tells the story of five students. And they live together happily in Ireland. But one day, one of them betrays* the others. The story becomes sad from there. I learned a lot from this book, such as the key to making friends. —James Smith |
